These operating instructions describe the Smart. They have been compiled so that as a user you can quickly and easily find your way
around when using the Smart and the Mind Express software.
To make the most efficient use of your software, we recommend that you carefully read the operating instructions and familiarize
yourself with all aspects of the device and software.
If anything is not clear, please refer to Jabbla.
As a result of the continuous evolution in software, Jabbla does not accept any liability for changes made to the content or images since
the publication of these operating instructions. In the event of any changes, no rights can be derived for software that has already been
supplied.
Jabbla cannot be held liable for any (in)direct, incidental or special damages arising from any use of (the content of) the documenta-
tion. This exclusion applies to any legal claim, on what legal grounds whatsoever.

The Smart is a small and handy portable communication device with a dynamic screen. Random messages can be spoken by the device
using symbols, pictures or other visual images. The Smart is based on a Windows Mobile computer platform and uses the Mind Express
software.
The Smart features a high-quality internal microphone and a robust sound amplification, so that compiled and/or chosen messages are
realistically reproduced and are loudly and clearly intelligible.
The Smart has a communication supporting function. This device is intended for general use in everyday life for people (from the age of
3) with a communication disorder (are not able to speak or cannot speak clearly). They must also possess sufficient motor and mental
abilities to use the device. The device is not suitable for clinical, therapeutic or diagnostic use. The device is able to learn infrared codes
and transmit these in order to control other devices through the unit. This includes devices for general use such devices for audio-visual
and home automation applications. This extension is not suitable for clinical, therapeutic or diagnostic use.
You will find more information about creating files on the Smart, in the Mind Express operating instructions supplied with your Smart.
For enjoy optimal use of your Smart we recommend that you read these operating instructions carefully.

Its limited weight makes the Smart a very portable and mobile. We recommend that you always use the Smart with the protective cover
supplied.
The device uses a Li-ion battery. Do not dispose of the battery in the usual way when replacing it. Keep to the waste regulations rules
that apply in your region. You can always return the battery to your supplier.
If you are not using the device for a longer period of time, always store it with the battery fully charged. Always make sure the device
is switched off (press and hold the on/off button for 4 seconds).
Avoid heat sources in the vicinity of the device, or areas that may become particularly hot. For example,in summerit can become very
hot in a car. Temperatures that are too high may adversely affect the performance of the battery life.
The Smart is not watertight, but the device has been designed in such a way that the top is splash-proof. At the bottom there are
openings for the loudspeakers that could allow moisture or dirt to enter the recesses in the loudspeakers. This may affect the quality
of the loudspeakers. Always try and avoid situations that could cause moisture or dirt to enter the loudspeaker openings. Also take
precautions when cleaning the device and always follow the cleaning instructions.
The device can be operated by using a finger to touch the screen. You don't need to exercise any force. For example, a light press is
sufficient to select a symbol on the screen. You can also do this using a stylus or something similar, however, never use sharp objects.
It is very easy to record sounds with the Smart. You do not need to speak loudly when recording your voice. The device will amplify the
recordings and reproduce them as naturally as possible. You can always adjust the volume. Always make sure that the volume repro-
duced is not annoying or harmful to you and your environment.

The Smart has a protective cover (15) that offers added protection. The protective cover also makes the device less vulnerable to shocks
and bumps and protects it against moisture and dirt.

3 Cleaning the device
Clean the device regularly so you do not give bacteria the chance to spread.
Preferably use a dry soft cloth to remove dust. For local stains on the casing, use a damp cloth. Make sure no moisture can enter through
the speaker holes, the microphone opening or the connectors. Any dirt near the connectors can be removed using a cotton bud.
To clean the touch screen use a dry cloth; do not use kitchen paper, as this may cause tiny scratches. To remove grease or stains from the
screen, it is recommended that you use cleaning agents specifically designed for cleaning screens (aerosol or wipes). Do not press too
hard on the screen during the cleaning process.
It is best to clean the Smart with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
4Repairs
In the event of damage to the device please contact the distributor of the device, or contact Jabbla's support department.
Do not attempt to carry out any repairs yourself. This could damage the device and invalidate your warranty.
