CHECKING AND MAINTAINING ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONDITIONS
Check the condition of your JackRabbit each time you are going to ride it. Make sure the
brake and the steering are working properly and that all the components, including the tires
are in good condition. Make sure no nuts, bolts, or other parts are loose or damaged. Make
sure you are in an acceptable condition to ride.
PROPER RIDING ATTIRE
Keep all body parts, hair, clothing, or other personal articles out of the way of moving parts
such as the wheel and the motor.
DO always wear proper protective equipment, including an approved safety helmet. Helmets
may be legally required by local law in your area. Follow the helmet manufacturer’s
instructions for fit, use, and care of your helmet. We recommend wearing a long-sleeved shirt,
long pants and gloves to minimize injury or scrapes in case of an accident. DO wear athletic
shoes (lace-up shoes with rubber soles) and DO NOT ride barefoot or in open-toed shoes. Be
sure to keep your shoelaces tied and out of the way so they do not get caught in the wheels.
Beware of pinching your fingers or getting them caught in parts when operating the vehicle.
SPEED CONTROL SWITCH (SCS)
This component controls how much power is delivered from the battery to the motor. Pressing
and holding the SCS in the top (CRUISE) position permits 5 amps of current to flow--creating
between 168 and 116 watts of power at the rear wheel (depending on the state of the battery
charge). Pressing and holding the SCS in the bottom (CLIMB) position permits 10 amps of
current to flow—creating between 336 and 232 watts of power at the rear wheel. In the
absence of any thumb pressure the SCS defaults to the COAST position and no current flows
from the battery to the motor. The SCS can be removed from its handlebar cradle. Doing so
disables JackRabbit’s operation. A blue key fob is provided to secure the SCS to a key
chain/ring when it is removed. When re-inserting the SCS please note its proper orientation:
CRUISE (I) is up, CLIMB (II) is down. Extra SCS’s are only available only to registered
JackRabbit owners. The SCS cradle’s wire is routed through holes in the handlebars to the
stem extension. Rotating the SCS cradle relative to the handlebars or the handlebars
relative to the stem risks severing this wire that connects to the “engine room.”
DAMPENED AND LIMITED STEERING
JackRabbit's steering action is dampened for a more stable handling feel. To protect the wire
routed inside the fork, handlebar rotation is limited. Its small 33” turning radius makes
JackRabbit very nimble--easy to maneuver around obstacles in traffic.
BRAKE
Your JackRabbit is equipped with a rear wheel V-brake for maximum reliability and efficiency.
Applying hand pressure to the brake lever adds friction that slows the rear wheel. With the
Speed Control Switch in the COAST (default) position, pull the brake lever towards you to
slow down. The more pressure applied to the lever, the faster JackRabbit will come to a stop.
Please review brake adjustment and service information on Page 8.
WARNING: STOPPING DISTANCES WILL VARY DEPENDING ON YOUR
SPEED, CONDITION OF YOUR TIRES, SURFACE YOU ARE RIDING ON
AND YOUR WEIGHT. ALWAYS FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH YOUR
STOPPING DISTANCE BEFORE RIDING IN A BUSY PLACE.
