INTROD CTION
Thank you for choosing a Jamex system for your vending needs. This manual provides instructions for operating your
Jamex Vending System as well as technical information necessary to install and maintain the system. Please keep this
manual available and refer to it when calling for technical support.
Model 7112 Stand Alone Card Reader is one part of a complete system that facilitates vending through the use of Stored-
Value Cards rather than, or in addition to, the use of cash. The use of Stored-Value Cards can increase security of your
vended services by reducing the handling of cash. They may also add convenience for patrons who prefer to carry one small
card rather than a pocket full of cash for larger transactions.
In addition to the Stored-Value Cards, a complete Card Vending System includes the following four elements:
- A method of dispensing the Stored-Value Cards
- A control mechanism which reads the cards and enables the copier, computer printer,
fax machine, micro fiche reader, etc. ( odel 7112 is a control mechanism)
- A method of encoding value, security information, and revenue tracking codes
onto the Stored-Value Cards
- A method of tracking revenue and accounting for vended services
For more information on Stored-Value Card Systems please contact your local business equipment dealer, or call Jamex at
1-800-289-6550 or contact us through our web page at www.jamexvending.com.

OPERATING G IDE
POWER - P
When first powered up, the LCD display on your 7112 Vending System will scroll the following message ” Jamex, Inc. ©
2010 7112 “the date of the firmware version”. This will be followed by the prompt “Insert Your Card”
OPERATION OF THE JAMEX 7112 VENDING SYSTEM
Jamex Copy Cards are required for the operation of your Stand Alone Card Reader. These cards are ordered from Jamex
and are formatted to work with the Jamex reader. Jamex Stored Value Copy Cards are white with blue graphics.
anagement Cards are blue with white graphics. On the face of the stored value copy cards are the words ”Copy Card”, the
Jamex logo and a stylized blue arrow. On the back of the card is a magnetic stripe which stores the security coding that
designates your cards as specific to your location, and the stored value which allows the patron to buy services.
These cards may also be coded to differentiate between four distinct groups of users. These user groups are sometimes
referred to as Site Code. The activity for each Site Code is tracked separately in the meters of your 7112. When a copy card
is inserted into the 7112 Card Reader it will determine that the card is acceptable to that reader, record the activity, and
determine what price to charge and to deduct from the value stored on the card for the service purchased. Stored Value Cards
are programmed with a Site Code. The Site Code programed to the Stored Value Card must match one of the four Site Codes
programmed to the Card Reader. This security feature ensures that the Vend System is coded to one facility.
Begin a transaction by inserting a Copy Card arrow end first and face up into the card reader. The display will show the
value stored on the card. When this value meets or exceeds the vend price, the copier (micro fiche reader, fax machine, etc)
will be enabled. Each time the copier makes one copy, the value stored on the card will be decreased by the cost per copy
and the display will show the remaining value left on the card. The copier will remain enabled as long as the value stored on
the card remains at or above the vend price. When the patron is finished they may terminate the transaction by pressing the
white “Card Return” button. The display will read “Wait” for a few seconds. The card’s magnetic stripe will be encoded
with any unused value and the card will be returned to the exit position. The display will read “Take Card” and the copier will
be disabled.
CA TION: It is very important not to interrupt the power source or to remove the copy card without first pressing
the white “Card Return” button. If either of these actions is attempted, the card will not be encoded with any unused
value and the card will no longer be useable.
2

BYPASS OPERATION
Your Jamex model 7112 Stand Alone Card Reader has a Bypass feature and has been shipped with a “Bypass Card” to allow
authorized personnel to make copies with no cost to themselves. To use the Bypass feature, simply insert the blue “Bypass
Card” into the reader, arrow first and face up. The display will read “-BYPASS-”. As long as the card is in place copies may
be made. When the user is finished they may press the white Card Return button and reclaim the “Bypass Card”.
SET CARD VAL E
The odel 7112 has the capability of programming value to Stored Value Cards. This can be done with a Set Card Value
card, which is supplied with the 7112 Card Reader. For instructions on how to use a Set Card Value card, see page 8,
Program Value to Cards, section of this manual.
M LTIPLE PRICING
This feature allows for an alternate price to be charged for a different size of paper or Black and White vs Color. This feature
is dependent upon the model of copier being interfaced with the odel 7112.
WARNING: JAMEX STORED-VAL E CARDS SHO LD NOT HAVE HOLES P NCHED IN THE CARD.
STICKERS OR OTHER FOREIGN MATERIALS PLACED ON THE CARDS WILL ENDANGER THE
OPERATION OF THE READER. DO NO BEND THE CARD OR WRITE ON THE CARD S RFACE.
