Canning and Oversize Cookware
All canners and large pots must have flat bottoms and
must be made from heavy-gauge materials. Thisiscritical
onsmoothtopsurfaces.Thebasemustnotbemorethan
1inchlargerthantheelement.
Whencannersandpotsdonotmeetthesestandards,cooking
timesmaybelonger,andcooktopsmaybedamaged.
Somecannersaredesignedwithsmallerbasesforuseon
smoothtopsurfaces.
When canning, use the High heat setting only until the
water comes to a boil orpressureisreachedinthecanner.
Reducetothelowestheatsettingthatmaintainstheboilor
pressure.Iftheheatisnotturneddown,thecooktopmaybe
damaged.
Tips to Protect the
Smoothtop Cartridge Surface
Cleaning (seepage7formoreinformation)
•Before firstuse,cleanthecooktop.
• Cleanyourcooktopdailyoraftereachuse.Thiswillkeepyour
cooktoplookinggoodandcanpreventdamage.
• Ifaspilloveroccurswhilecooking,immediatelycleanthespill
fromthecookingareawhileitishottopreventatough
cleaningchorelater.Usingextremecare,wipespillwitha
clean,drytowel.
•Do not allowspillstoremainonthecookingareaorthe
cooktoptrimforalongperiodoftime.
•Never useabrasivecleansingpowdersorscouringpads
whichwillscratchthecooktop.
•Never usechlorinebleach,ammoniaorothercleansersnot
specificallyrecommendedforuseonglass-ceramic.
To Prevent Marks & Scratches
•Do not useglasspans.Theymayscratchthesurface.
•Never placeatrivetorwokringbetweenthesurfaceandpan.
Theseitemscanmarkoretchthetop.
•Do not slidealuminumpansacrossahotsurface.Thepans
mayleavemarkswhichneedtoberemovedpromptly.(See
Cleaning,page7.)
• Makesurethesurfaceandthepanbottomarecleanbefore
turningontopreventscratches.
• Topreventscratchingordamagetotheglass-ceramictop,do
not leavesugar,saltorfatsonthecookingarea.Wipethe
cooktopsurfacewithacleanclothorpapertowelbefore
using.
•Never slideheavymetalpansacrossthesurfacesincethese
mayscratch.
To Prevent Stains
•Never useasoileddishclothorspongetocleanthecooktop
surface.Afilmwillremainwhichmaycausestainsonthe
cookingsurfaceaftertheareaisheated.
• Continuouslycookingonasoiledsurfacemay/willresultina
permanentstain.
To Prevent Other Damage
•Do not allowplastic,sugarorfoodswithhighsugarcontent
tomeltontothehotcooktop. Shouldthishappen,clean
immediately.(SeeCleaning,page7.)
•Never letapanboildryasthiswilldamagethesurfaceand
pan.
•Never usecooktopasaworksurfaceorcuttingboard.
•Never cookfooddirectlyonthesurface.
•Do not useasmallpanonalargeelement.Notonlydoesthis
wasteenergy,butitcanalsoresultinspilloversburningonto
thecookingarea,whichrequiresextracleaning.
Cookware Recommendations
•Do not usenon-flatspecialtyitemsthatareoversizedor
unevensuchasroundbottomwoks,rippledbottomand/or
oversizedcannersandgriddles.
•Do not usefoilorfoil-typecontainers.Foilmaymeltontothe
glass.Ifmetalmeltsonthecooktop,do not use.Callan
