3) BICYCLE MOUNTING
INITIAL SETUP
This setup must be followed every time a bicycle with a different axle length is used.
BICYCLE SETUP
1. Yourbicyclemustbeingoodmechanicalcondition,ifyouareunsurepleaseseeyour
localbicycleservicecentreforassessment.
2. Yourbicyclewheelmustbeingoodcondition,trueandfreefromanyissues.The
wheel’srimmusthavelessthan2mmsidetosidemovementandlessthan1mm
verticalmovementperrevolution.Ifyourwheelisoutsideofthis,pleasevisityourlocal
bicycleservicecentretohaveittrued.Untruewheelsmaycausevibrationduringuse
andcouldcausepermanentdamagetothetrainerortrainerroller.
3. Tomeasuretnessimprovementitisimportanttouseconsistenttyrepressuresfor
eachworkout.
For road bike tyres we recommend 110psi.
For mountain bike tyres please see that manufacturer’s guidelines written
on the tyre sidewall.
ThetrainerbasepowercurvesusedintheJetBlackapparemeasuredonabikeusing
700x23cslickroadtyresat110psiwithexactly1.5completeturns(threehalfturns)
oftherolleradjustmentknobaftertherollerrstmakescontactwiththetyre.Lower
pressurescanstillbemeasuredaslongastheyareusedconsistently.
4. Bicycleaxlesetup:Bicycleaxlescomeinarangeofsizes.Youmustselectthecorrect
settingontheSQR(SetClipQuickRelease)beforeattemptingtomountyourbicycle
Standard Nut and Bolt
• Ensurethenutsonyouraxlearetightenedsecurely
• Checkthatthenutandaxlenestsintotheaxlesupportcupsbymorethan5mm(3/16
inch)
Quick Release Skewer
• JetBlackstronglysuggestsyouusethesuppliedquickreleaseskewer(forthose
bicyclesthatuseQRsystems
• Replacethebicycle’srearwheelquickrelease(QR)skewerwiththeoneprovided.See
yourbicycleowner’smanualforinstructionsonhowtoproperlyadjusttheQRskewer.
• Theskewerlevermustbeonthenon-drivesideofyourbicycle(thelefthandside).
• Yourskewermustbetightandyourwheelmustbealignedproperlyinthebicycle.
Thru Axle
• Bicyclesthatuseathruaxlesysteminmostcasesdonotnesttheminimumof5mm
(3/16inch)intotheaxlesupportcups.Ifyourthruaxledoesnotnestmorethan5mm
(3/16inch),youshouldacquireatrainerspecictrainerthruaxlethatissuitablefor
yourbicycle.Thesearesoldseparately.
• Installyourtrainerspecicthruaxlemakingsuretofollowthemanufacturer’s
instructions.
SQR™ SETUP
SQR™(Set-clipQuickRelease)FitSystemSetup:
TheSQR™(Set-clipQuickRelease)hasfouravailablepositionssothatthetrainerwillsuit
most26”,27.5”,29”700candsome24”bicycles.(24”bicyclesandotherbicycleswillneed
tobettedtothetraineronacasebycasebasis).Seegure4.
YourtrainercomessuppliedsetinPositionTwo,Seegure4.Thisisthemostcommon
roadbikewidth.Touseabikewithanotherwidth,yousimplyselecttheappropriate
SQR™holepositionandadjustthethreadedboltsothattheleverisrmtoclose.Simply
adjusttheSQR™systemtomatchyourbikeandyou’rereadytoride.Thisisaonceonly
requiredsetupthatdoesnotneedanyfurtheradjustment.Itwillbeintheexactposition
everysingleride.Youwillonlyneedtoresetif youarechangingtoabikewithadifferent
sizedaxle.

beusedasastartingpointforotherbicycleaxlecongurations.Somebikesmayrequire
movingthepinoneholeeithersidetocentrethetyreontheorangeroller.
1. Fromtable1,selectthepositionnumberthatbestsuitsyourbicycle.
2. Removethepinfromtheleverandadjustmentboltandslidetheadjustmentboltuntil
thecorrectholeisalignedandthenreinserttheshaftlockingpin.SeeFigure5
3. TheShaftLockingPinmustbeinsertedallthewaysothatitscurvedspringclips
aroundtotheclosedpositionsecuringittothetrainer.
4. NowrotatetheSQR™plasticleversothatitisopen(verticalpositionpointingup).
5. Onthelefthandside,adjustthesilverthreadedboltandblackplasticlocknutsothat
theyareallthewayin,withnothreadshowing.Thiswillgiveyouplentyofroomasyou
movethebikeintoposition.SeeFigure3.
6. Checkyourtyrepressureisinatedtowhichevercomesrst;thetyremanufacturer’s
maximumrecommendedpressureor110psiifyourtyreswillallow.
7. Takeyourbikeandgentlyloweryourbikeintothetrainerframe.Alignthebikeandrear
wheeltotheleftsideofthetrainersothatthebicycleaxleisrmlyrestinginsidethe
threadedadjustmentbolt.
Note:Iftherolleristouchingthetyreandnotlettingtheaxlenestintotheaxlesupport
cupyoumayneedtolowertheresistanceunitbywindingtherolleradjustmentknob
anticlockwise.
8. OntheSQR™leverside,nowrotatetheblackplasticleverdowntoahorizontal
position.Seegure8.
9. Checkthatyourtyreiscentredontheorangerollertowithin10mm(3/8inch)fromthe
centreoftheorangeroller.Yourtyremusthaveaminimum5mm(3/16inch)clearance
fromthemetal(silvercoloured)rollerframe.Seegure6.
10.Thelevershouldbeeasilyrotatedtothehorizontalwithlittleforceandbecomermto
closeafterbeingpushedbeyondhorizontal(levelwiththeground),Seegure8.
11.Iftheleverrequiresefforttorotatetohorizontalwindtheadjustmentboltanit-
clockwiseuntiltheleversitshorizontal(levelwiththeground)
12.Iftheleverrequiresnoefforttorotatedownbelowhorizontalturntheadjustmentbolt
clockwiseuntiltheleversitshorizontal(levelwiththeground)
13.Nowtesttheleverbyapplyingadownwardforceandclosingtheleveralltheway
totheclosedposition.Seegure3.Itshouldbermtoclose,butstilleasyenoughto
closeandopen.
14.Checkyoursetupmatchesgure9.andthatyourleverishorizontal(levelwiththe
ground).Ifnot,adjustasnecessaryuntilitdoes.
15.Whenyouhavecompletedstep13makesuretheblacklockingringisrotated
clockwiseuntilitisrmlyagainstthetrainerframe.Thiswilllockthethreadedboltin
place,preventingitfromtighteningorlooseningduringuse.
16.Checkthebicycleissecureinthetrainerframe.Thebicyclemustnotmoveseparately
fromthetrainer.Testthisbyholdingthebicyclesaddleandmovingitfromsidetoside
andupanddown.Ifthebicyclemovespleasereturntoinitialsetup.
17.Finallycheckthattherolleristightenedtoexactly1.5turns(threehalfturns)afterthe
tyrerstmakescontactwiththeroller.

4) USING YOUR TRAINER
GETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR TRAINER:
Do not ride your trainer with less than 1.5 complete turns (three half turns) of the roller
adjustment knob after the roller rst makes contact with the tyre.Itisimportantthatthe
tensionbetweenthetyreandtherollerissetcorrectlyeverysessionfortworeasons.(1)
Itensuresthatthetyrewillnotslipontherollerwhichcouldcausepermanentdamage
tothetrainerandyourtyre.(2)Itensurestheresistanceofyourtrainerisconsistentfor
everytrainingsessionallowingyoutotrackperformance.
ThetrainerbasepowercurvesusedintheJetBlackapparemeasuredonabikeusing
700x23cslickroadtyresat110psiwithexactly1.5completeturns(threehalfturns)ofthe
rolleradjustmentknobaftertherollerrstmakescontactwiththetyre.Ifyoursetupis
differentyouwillhaveaslightlydifferentresistance,butaslongasyoukeepthesetup
identicalbetweeneachtrainingsessionsyouwillbeabletomonitoryourperformance.
TheproprietaryuidintheJetBlackZ1PROFluidincreasesresistanceexponentially,the
fasteryouspintheharderitgets.Correctuseofyourbicycle’sgearswillallowyoutone
tuneanytrainingsessionwithouthavingtomanuallyadjustresistance.
Tomakeyourindoorworkoutasquietaspossible,setthetraineronaJetBlackTrainer
Matanduseareartyrewithasmoothtreadpattern.Onceattached,thebicycleslopes
downwardslightly.Tolevel,usetheoptionalJetBlackRiserBlockunderthefronttyre.
CONSISTENT REPEATABLE TRAINING SESSIONS:
1. Increasingthetensionoftherollerfromourrecommended1.5turnsto2fullturns
willincreasetheresistanceapproximately10-15%.Soifyouareusingthetrainerfor
trackingyourpowerperformance,youshouldresistadjustingtherollerupto2full
turns.
2. Forevery20psiyourtyredeatesyouwillloseapproximately5%resistance.Youmust
checkyourtyrepressurebeforeeveryridemakingsureitisinatedtowhichever
comesrstthetyremanufacturer’smaximumrecommendedpressureor110psiifyour
tyreswillallow.
NOTE: Fluidtrainersrequireawarmupperiodofbetween5to10minutes.Thisisalso
greattimeforyoutodoyourownwarmup.Oncethetrainerhasbeenrunningfor5to
10minutestheresistancewillbeeasierandtheresistancewillbestable.Trainerpower
curvesfortheuidtrainersaremeasuredafterthetrainerhassufcienttimetowarmup.
Youshouldavoidmonitoringyourperformanceduringthiswarmupperiodasresistance
uctuatesuntiltheresistanceunitisadequatelywarmedup.
TRAINER SPARE PARTS
5) BIKE REMOVAL
Undotherolleradjustmentknobonbyturningitanticlockwise1.5turnstobacktheroller
awayfromthetyre.Holdyourbikewithonehandandwiththeotherhandundothedrive
sideadjustmentknob,turningittowardsyourbicycleframe.Nowunscrewtheouter
adjustmentknobuntiltheaxlesupportcupsareunscrewedawayfromthebicycle.Now
youmaycarefullyremovethebikeforwardsorupwards,untilitclearsthetrainerframe.
6) CARING FOR YOUR TRAINER
Whenusedaccordingtothemanufacturer’sinstructionsandcaredforwithcommon
sense,yourJetBlacktrainerwillprovidealifetimeoftraining.
Wipeanysweatoffafteraworkout.
Keepthemachineawayfromanycorrosivesubstances,suchassaltorotherpotentially
hazardoussubstances.
Iftherollerdarkensorshowsblacktyrebuildupyoumaycleanitoffwithacloth.This
tyrebuildupcanbecleanedwitharagbyfrictionrubbingtherollerwithasidetoside
motion.Therubbingmotionwithacleanragwillliftthetyrebuildupofftheroller.Donot
usealcoholoranycleaningsolventsonthehydrogelroller.Acleanclothandfrictionisall
thatisrequired.
7) STORAGE
Caution!Thetrainerwillbecomehotduringuse.Keepchildrenandpetsawayandallow
trainer15minutestocooldownbeforetransportingorstoringyourtrainer.
Tostoreortransportyourtrainer:
RotatetheSQRleverdowntotheclosedposition
Graspthetrainerframebytheadjustmentbolts/axlesupportcupsandthenliftsothatyou
mayfoldthelegstogether.
Becarefulwhenfoldingthelegstoavoidpinchingyourngers.
Storethetrainerindoors,outoftherainandawayfromtemperatureextremes.
Keepthetrainerawayfromanycorrosivesubstances,suchassaltorotherpotentially
hazardoussubstances.
8) WARRANTY
JetBlackofferstheoriginalowneralifetimewarrantyagainstmanufacturingdefects
manufacturingdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanship.Unitswhichusebatteriesor
computerdisplayunitcomewithaoneyearwarrantyontheseproducts.Thiswarranty
isnotapplicabletodamagecausedbymisuse,abuse,neglect,accidentorunauthorized
modication.Iftheunitisdisassembledbytheconsumer,thiswarrantyisvoid.
