ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
DOUBLE INSULATED
This grass trimmer has a plug that looks like the one shown in Fig. 1.
The grass trimmer is double insulated to provide a double thickness of insulation between you and
the tool’s electrical system. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the internal metal motor
components with protective insulation.
USE ONLY IDENTICAL REPLACEMENT PARTS WHEN SERVICING THE GRASS TRIMMER,
TO AVOID INJURY.
Fig. 1
6
TO AVOID ELECTRICAL HAZARDS, FIRE HAZARDS, OR DAMAGE TO THE TOOL, USE PROPER
CIRCUIT PROTECTION. YOUR GRASS TRIMMER IS WIRED AT THE FACTORY FOR 120 V
OPERATION. CONNECT TO A 120 V, 15 A CIRCUIT, AND USE A 15 A TIME-DELAYED FUSE OR
CIRCUIT BREAKER. TO AVOID SHOCK OR FIRE, IF THE EXTENSION CORD IS WORN, CUT OR
DAMAGED IN ANY WAY, REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY.
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, THIS APPLIANCE HAS A POLARIZED PLUG
(ONE BLADE IS WIDER THAN THE OTHER) AND WILL REQUIRE THE USE OF A POLARIZED
EXTENSION CORD. THE APPLIANCE PLUG WILL FIT INTO A POLARIZED EXTENSION CORD
ONLY ONE WAY. IF THE PLUG DOES NOT FIT FULLY INTO THE EXTENSION CORD, REVERSE
THE PLUG. IF THE PLUG STILL DOES NOT FIT, OBTAIN A CORRECT POLARIZED EXTENSION
CORD. A POLARIZED EXTENSION CORD WILL REQUIRE THE USE OF A POLARIZED WALL
OUTLET. THIS PLUG WILL FIT INTO THE POLARIZED WALL OUTLET ONLY ONE WAY. IF THE
PLUG DOES NOT FIT FULLY INTO THE WALL OUTLET, REVERSE THE PLUG. IF THE PLUG
STILL DOES NOT FIT, CONTACT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN TO INSTALL THE PROPER WALL
OUTLET. DO NOT CHANGE THE EQUIPMENT PLUG, EXTENSION CORD RECEPTACLE, OR
EXTENSION CORD PLUG IN ANY WAY.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
IN THE EVENT OF A MALFUNCTION OR BREAKDOWN, grounding provides the path of least
resistance for electric current, and reduces the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with
a POLARIZED plug. The plug MUST be plugged into a matching grounded extension cord in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG PROVIDED. If it will not fit the properly grounded extension cord,
have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s)
to be used for the gardening appliance. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection
and may be used for this measure of safety.

GUIDELINES FOR USING EXTENSION CORDS
USE THE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition.
When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product
will draw. An undersized cord will cause overheating. The table below shows the correct size to use
depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge.
The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.

ALTHOUGH THIS GRASS TRIMMER IS DOUBLE INSULATED, THE EXTENSION CORD AND
RECEPTACLE MUST STILL BE GROUNDED WHILE IN USE TO PROTECT THE OPERATOR
FROM ELECTRIC SHOCK.
ELECTRICAL INFORMATION
Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a
damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified person before use. Keep extension cords
away from sharp objects, excessive heat and damp or wet areas.
Use a separate electrical circuit for your tools. This circuit should comprise a wire of at least 12
gauge and should be protected with a 15 A time-delayed fuse. Before connecting the motor to the

OPERATION
Cutting device —— advancing the trimmer line (Fig. 6)
In order to advance a length of trimmer line, firmly tap the bump cap on the lawn while the trimmer
is running. This will automatically advance a new length of trimmer line and trim the line to the
correct length. A firm but gentle motion should be used when tapping the bump cap on the lawn.
This advancing process may be repeated as often as necessary. Never try to advance the line on
a hard surface such as a sidewalk or driveway. If unit fails to advance, unplug power from trimmer
and clean the bump cap both inside and out.
Flower Guard
Pull the flower guard out of the trimmer head (Fig. 7). If the flower guard is no longer required, it can be
pushed in again (park position).
Using the flower guard
The grass trimmer is equipped with a flower guard that can be pulled outward to push flowers
away from the cutting line so they are protected (Fig. 8). The flower guard is an indicator of the
maximum cutting range of the line.

Trimming
1. Hold the tool as shown (Fig. 9)
2. Gently swing the trimmer from side to side (Fig. 10).
3. When cutting long grass, work in stages from the top. Take small cuts. Keep the tool away from
hard objects and delicate plants.
4. If the tool starts running slowly, reduce the load.
• Do not cut moist or wet grass.
• Before starting the trimmer check that the cutting head will not come into contact with stones,
rubble or other foreign bodies.
• Switch on the trimmer before you approach the grass that is to be cut.
• Always trail the extension cord behind you. Do not pass the operating trimmer over the extension
cord as the cord could be damaged.
• Do not overload the trimmer during operation.
• Avoid contact with obstacles (stones, walls, fences, etc.) as this will rapidly wear out the trimmer line.
• Do not hit the cutting head on the ground during operation.
• Ensure that the cutting head has stopped before you deposit the equipment on the ground. Cut
the grass by swaying the trimmer sideways to the right and left. Cut slowly, keeping the grass
trimmer inclined forward slightly when cutting. Cut tall grass by a series of level passes from top to
bottom.
OPERATION
Fig. 9 Fig. 10
WARNING
Danger of injury!
