1. Introduction
About your scale:
The Oxford Digital Scale is a technologically advanced, microprocessor controlled, digital
weighing device. It features two large, easy to read, Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) that show the
patient’s weight from either side.
The controls are simple and straightforward to use. The Oxford Digital Scale is powered by an
inexpensive, common 9 volt battery.
The Oxford Digital Scale can be used in conjunction with the Oxford Presence and Stature. The
model numbers for the scale are:
OXF-UNISCALE100 4-point cradle with scale (calibrated for UK)
OXF-UNISCALE100EU 4-point cradle with scale (calibrated for non UK)
OXF-UNISCALE101 6-point spreader bar with scale (calibrated for UK)

The CE mark (Europe Only): The Oxford Digital Scale carries the CE mark and

Intended Use:
The Oxford Low Prole Weigh Scale is a RoHS compliant precision scale for use in portable patient
weighing systems. The scale is designed to be connected between patient hoist mechanism and
the patient sling apparatus. The Oxford Low Prole Weigh Scale is NOT intended to be used during
patient transportation.
Serious Incident Reporting
In the event of a serious incident taking place during use of this product, affecting the patient and/
or care-giver, it must be reported to the product manufacturer or authorised distributor. Should
the incident take place within the European Union (EU), it must also be reported to the local
competent authority within the member state.

3. Assembly
Your weigh scale comes fully integrated with the 6 point (loop) spreader bar, 4-point (non-
powered) cradle or a 4-point adaptive power cradle (powered) cradle.
Attaching the scale/cradle assembly to the lift is quick and easy and will require a small blade
screwdriver.
You need to rst remove your existing spreader bar or cradle from the lift.
Removal of the spreader bar/cradle:
To attach your new Oxford digital scale you may rst need to remove the spreader bar/cradle from
the lift by removing the quick release pin that retains the 4-point cradle or 6-point spreader bar
(Fig. 2). A small at blade screw driver is the only tool required.
Caution: Prior to removing the quick release pin, the cradle needs to be supported by a stationary
object such as a work bench or table. This will prevent the cradle from dropping suddenly
preventing an injury or damage to the cradle.

Connection of the Spreader Bar/Cradle:
To connect, raise the spreader bar/cradle up towards the boom slot. Once aligned in the boom
slot reinsert the quick release pin fully into the fulcrum bush until it locks into position. YOU
MUST CHECK THAT THE PIN IS SECURELY FITTED; a noticeable “click” will sound when the
connection has been made secure.
To do this, press your nger into the barbed end. If the pin remains stationary the lift is safe to use
(Fig. 3).
WARNING
The pin and fulcrum bush must engage through the boom slot. If the fulcrum bush
becomes misaligned this may result in serious injury/death.

4. Operation
The Oxford scale has been designed and certied to weigh up to 400kg in 0.2 increments. It has
been certied to weigh in temperatures between 5˚C/35˚C.
To weigh a patient follow the instructions below:
1. To power up the scale press and release the ON/ZERO button. The display will show either 0.0
or a random measurement.
2. Attach the sling to the spreader bar/cradle that will be used to weigh the patient (this is
necessary so the weight of the sling is not included with the patient’s weight).
3. Press and hold the ON/ZERO button for approximately 2 seconds until “ZERO” is displayed.
The scale will zero and is now ready to weigh a patient.
NOTE: The upper left corner of the display will have the “>0<” symbol. This indicates that the
scale has been properly zeroed. No more than 40kg can be tared to zero.
4. Remove the sling from the spreader bar/cradle and place the sling around/under the patient for
proper lifting.
5. Reattach the sling to the spreader bar/cradle; raise the patient so that they are suspended
from the lift.
NOTE: The patient must not be touching anything such as a chair or bed since this will cause
an error in weighing.
6. Once the digital display has stabilized, record the weight and then lower the patient onto the
appropriate surface (i.e. bed, chair).
NOTE: The upper left corner of the display will have the “>p<” symbol. This indicates that the
weight being measured is stable.
7. The scale has been programmed to turn o󰀨 after 1 minute to conserve battery life. The zero
(TARE) will be maintained. To restart the scale prior to lowering the patient, push the ON/
ZERO pad momentarily (do not hold for >2 seconds or the scale will be zero under the weight
of the patient). The display will show the start up screen and then show the patient’s weight
NOTE: To restart the scale, be sure to push the ON/ZERO. If the scale is “turned on” and the
pad is pushed again or pressed for more than 2 seconds, the scale may go to zero (0.0) and
the patient’s weight will be lost.
8. The RECALL feature is designed to retain in the memory the last stable weight for a patient
NOTE: Pressing the RECALL button will display the last viewed stable weight, indicated by
the MEM symbol in the upper left corner of the display.

5. Operation Features
• All functions are accessible to the user without opening the case.
• Starting or zeroing the scale is done through a single touchpad located on the front of the case.
• Stable readings are achieved through digital averaging. Once the digital display has stabilised,
the stable weight will be held. To make the scale active again, push the ON/ZERO pad
momentarily. The held weight is stored in a non-volatile memory for later recall if required.
• Display turns o󰀨 after 60 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.
• Recall of the last held weight is available by pressing the RECALL pad. This allows a reading of
the last patient’s weight, after the patient has been removed from the scale.
• Battery change is made easy with external access to the battery holder.
6. Cleaning
Clean with ordinary soap and water and/or any hard surface disinfectant. Harsh chemical
cleaners or abrasives should be avoided as these may damage the surface finish of the product.
Avoid wetting any of the electrical parts. After cleaning, the unit should be thoroughly dried.
CAUTION
Do not scratch the display window.
Do not immerse the Weigh Scale in liquid or spray liquid directly on the unit.
Do not use pressurised water or steam on the weigh scale.
End of Life Disposal
Battery: All batteries in the product and any accompanying accessories must be recycled
separately. Batteries should be disposed of in accordance with local or national regulations.
Slings: Slings and associated material accessories should be sorted as combustible waste in
accordance with local or national regulations.

8. Battery Replacement
The Oxford Electronic Digital Scale is powered by a 9 volt battery. A new battery will provide
approximately 3000 readings before replacement is necessary. The low battery ‘LOBAT’ indicator
is displayed when battery replacement is required.
To Replace Battery:
1. Push black pad on the battery compartment (located on the underside of the weigh scale) in
the direction of the arrow. Pull out to withdraw the battery compartment.
2. Battery holder will slide out.
3. Remove old battery and replace with a new one.
4. Push battery holder back into scale.

9. Maintenance, Inspection & Test
Joerns Healthcare recommends that a thorough inspection and test of all Oxford lifts and lifting
accessories is carried out every six months. Joerns Healthcare recommends maintenance,
inspection and certied testing, is only carried out by a competent service provider. Refer to the
Lift user manual for a checklist of items to be inspected and tested.
Important Note (European Requirement Only):
The Oxford Weigh scale is a Class III compliant weighing device and conforms to the NAWI
Directive 2014/31/EU and has been certified by NMO, certification number UK3114.
Re-calibration is generally not required, but should be veried periodically to ensure accuracy.
The recommendation for calibration check is at least once every 12 months, or as individual
maintenance policy requires.

Joerns Healthcare has an established network of reputable distributors and service technicians
who will be pleased to handle all your purchasing, warranty, repair and maintenance inquiries.
10. Warranty
Joerns Healthcare has an established network of authorised distributors and service agents who
will be pleased to handle all of your purchasing, warranty, repair and maintenance enquiries. It
is recommended that our products are commissioned by your authorised distributor or service
agent.
The distributor or service agent operates the warranty programme, so it is important to keep
a record of their name, address and telephone number so they can be contacted should any
problem arise. If you are in any doubt as to where your lift was purchased, Joerns Healthcare can
trace the supplier if you quote the serial number of the lift.
All warranty claims are subject to the correct use and maintenance in accordance with the user
instruction manual provided with each lift. Damage caused by use in unsuitable environmental
conditions or failure to maintain the product in accordance with user and service instructions is
not covered. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
REMEMBER: Contact your authorised distributor or service agent for purchases, repairs,
servicing and certified maintenance.

Purpose of the logbook:
• The logbook retains all information relevant to the inspection, repair or modification of the instrument.
• The logbook can be provided by Joerns, the approved inspector or the approved repair engineer.
• The logbook must accompany the scale at the place of use.
• The logbook must always accompany the scale, even if the scale is mobile.
Responsibility of equipment holder (end user):
• The end user must make this logbook available at all times for the local regulatory authority, the
approved inspector, or approved engineer.
• The responsibility for producing the logbook lies with the end user of the logbook.
• The end user is responsible for looking after the integrity of the logbook.
• A missing or damaged logbook will result in signature refusal of the periodic verification and/or
refusal by the approved engineer to work on the scale.
• If the current logbook is replaced, the approved inspector or engineer must note this event in
the new logbook
• It is the end user responsibility that the approved bodies for verification fill in the logbook; the

1. Introduction
À propos de votre pèse-personne:
Le pèse-personne digital Oxford est un dispositif de pesage digital à technologie avancée,
commandé par microprocesseur. Il intègre deux grands écrans LCD qui a󰀩chent le poids des
patients des deux côtés.
Les commandes sont simples et conviviales. Le pèse-personne digital Oxford est alimenté par
une batterie ordinaire et économique de 9 volts.
Le pèse-personne digital Oxford peut être utilisé conjointement avec les appareils Oxford
Presence et Stature. Les numéros de modèles des pèse-personnes sont:

3. Montage
Votre pèse-personne est doté d'un éau à 6 points, d'un berceau à 4 points (manuel) ou d'un
berceau motorisé adaptatif à 4 points.
Le montage du bloc pèse-personne/berceau sur le lève-personne est simple et rapide et requiert
un petit tournevis plat.
Commencez par enlever le éau ou le berceau du le lève-personne.
Dépose du éau/berceau:
Pour attacher votre nouveau pèse-personne digital Oxford, vous devrez éventuellement
commencer par retirer le éau ou le berceau du lève-personne. Pour ce faire, retirez la goupille à
libération rapide qui maintient le berceau à 4 points ou le éau à 6 points (Fig. 2). Il su󰀩t d'un petit
tournevis plat pour retirer la goupille.
Attention: Avant de retirer la goupille à libération rapide, faites reposer le berceau sur un support
xe, comme un établi ou une table, pour éviter que le berceau ne tombe brutalement et ne soit
endommagé ou qu’il ne blesse les personnes présentes.

Montage du éau/berceau:
Pour remonter le éau/berceau, soulevez-le à hauteur du bras. Alignez les trous dans la fente
du bras, puis enfoncez complètement la goupille à libération rapide dans fulcrum bush jusqu'à
ce qu'elle soit bien enclenchée. VÉRIFIEZ IMPÉRATIVEMENT QUE LA GOUPILLE EST
CORRECTEMENT ENCLENCHÉE; vous devez entendre un clic lorsque la goupille s'enclenche.
Pour le vérier, appuyez avec votre doigt sur l'extrémité biseautée. Si la goupille reste en place,
vous pouvez utiliser le lève-personne en toute sécurité (Fig. 3).
AVERTISSEMENT
La goupille et fulcrum bush doivent être acheminées à travers la fente du bras. Si fulcrum
bush n'est pas correctement alignée, cela peut entraîner des blessures graves, voire
mortelles.

4. Fonctionnement
Le pèse-personne Oxford est prévu et certié pour peser des charges maximales de 400 kg par
incréments de 0,2. Sa température de fonctionnement est comprise entre 5 ˚C et 35 ˚C.
Pour peser un patient, suivez la procédure indiquée ci-dessous:
1. Pour mettre le pèse-personne sous tension, appuyez, puis relâchez le bouton ON/ZERO.
L'écran a󰀩che la valeur 0.0 ou une mesure aléatoire.
2. Attachez le harnais au éau/berceau qui servira à peser le patient (ceci est important
pour que le poids du harnais ne soit pas compris dans le poids du patient).
3. Maintenez enfoncé le bouton ON/ZERO pendant près de 2 secondes jusqu'à ce que « ZERO »
soit a󰀩ché. Le pèse-personne est réinitialisé. Vous pouvez maintenant peser le patient.
REMARQUE: Le symbole «> 0 <» apparaît dans le coin supérieur gauche de l’écran. Pour être
mise à zéro, la tare ne peut dépasser 40 kg.
4. Détachez le harnais du éau/berceau et placez-le autour/sous le patient pour lever le patient
dans la manière correcte.
5. Rattachez le harnais au éau/berceau; levez le patient de sorte qu'il soit en suspension.
REMARQUE: Le patient ne doit rien toucher (par ex. un fauteuil roulant ou un lit) car le poids
a󰀩ché serait alors erroné.
6. Une fois que la valeur a󰀩chée est stable, consignez le poids, puis abaissez le patient pour qu'il
regagne sa place (par ex. son lit ou son fauteuil).
REMARQUE: Remarque: le symbole“><” apparaît dans le coin supérieur gauche de l’écran.
Cela indique que le poids qui vient d'être mesuré est stable.
7. Le pèse-personne est programmé pour s'éteindre automatiquement au bout d'une minute
an de préserver la durée de vie de la batterie. La valeur de la tare (TARE) sera conservée à
zéro. Pour redémarrer le pèse-personne avant d'abaisser le patient, appuyez sur le bouton ON/
ZERO (ne maintenez pas le bouton enfoncé plus de 2 secondes car cela aurait pour e󰀨et de
remettre la tare à zéro avec le poids du patient). L'écran de démarrage apparaît dans un
premier temps, puis le poids du patient s'a󰀩che.
REMARQUE: Pour redémarrer le pèse-personne, soyez sûr d'appuyer sur le bouton ON/
ZERO. Si, lors de l’allumage du pèse-personne, vous appuyez à nouveau sur le bouton ou le
maintenez enfoncé pendant plus de 2 secondes, le pèse-personne peut se réinitialiser à zéro
(0.0) et le poids du patient sera perdu.
8. La fonction RECALL (RAPPEL) permet de garder en mémoire le dernier poids stable d’un patient.
REMARQUE: Pour a󰀩cher le dernier poids stable mémorisé, appuyez sur le bouton Recall à
tout moment. Par exemple, si vous appuyez sur le bouton Recall alors qu’un patient est sur le
point d’être pesé, le dernier poids mémorisé s’a󰀩che.

5. Caractéristiques opérationnelles
• Toutes les fonctions sont accessibles à l'utilisateur sans qu'il ait à ouvrir le boîtier.
• Le démarrage ou la réinitialisation du pèse-personne se fait via un pavé tactile situé à l'avant du
boîtier.
• Les mesures stables sont obtenues par le calcul d'une moyenne numérique. Une fois que
l’a󰀩chage numérique s’est stabilisé, le poids stable sera maintenu. Pour réactiver la balance,
appuyez brièvement sur la touche ON / ZERO. Le poids retenu est conservé dans une mémoire
non volatile pour éventuellement être consulté ultérieurement.
• L'écran s'éteint automatiquement au bout de 60 secondes d'inactivité an de préserver la durée
de vie de la batterie.
• Le rappel du dernier poids maintenu est disponible en appuyant sur la touche RECALL. Cette
fonction permet d'a󰀩cher le poids du dernier patient une fois que le patient est descendu du
pèse-personne.
• Le changement de batterie est simple et rapide grâce à l'accès externe au compartiment à
batterie.
6. Nettoyage
Nettoyez au savon ordinaire et à l’eau et /ou avec un désinfectant pour sufaces dures. Les
produits de nettoyage chimiques corrosifs ou les abrasifs doivent être évités, car il peuvent
endommager le fini du produit. Évitez de mouiller les pièces électriques. Après le nettoyage,
l’appareil doit être soigneusement séché.
AVERTISSEMENT
Ne pas rayer la fenêtre d'a󰀩chage.
Ne pas immerger le pèse-personne dans du liquide et ne pas vaporiser de liquide
directement sur l'unité.
Ne pas exposer le pèse-personne à de la vapeur ou de l'eau sous pression.
Mise au rebut en fin de vie
Batterie : Les batteries présentes dans le produit et tout accessoire connexe doivent être
recyclés séparément. Les batteries doivent être éliminées conformément aux réglementations
locales et nationales en vigueur.
Sangles : Les sangles et accessoires connexes doivent être éliminés avec les déchets
combustibles conformément aux réglementations locales et nationales en vigueur.
