1. RATIONALE
The JS3 rudder pedals are designed to accommodate the largest possible shoe. Therefor the pedals are angled to
move more parallel with the fuselage nose section near the pedals.
JS designed two differently shaped footplates to be attached to the rudder pedals:

Reports have been received that the Type 1 rudder pedal plates provide uncomfortable feet support for certain
pilots, creating pressure points on the sides of the feet.
The Type 2 rudder pedal plates with a reduced toe-out angle reduce the strain on the feet noticeably.

5. INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 Part A - Replacement of the Rudder Pedal Footplates
1. Loosen the four M4x10 countersink Allen cap screws located at the top and bottom of each pedal.
2. Remove the old pedals and replace them with the new ergonomically improved version.
3. Apply a small amount of Loctite 243 on each of the M4x10 countersink Allen cap screws used to secure the
pedals in place. Ensure all screws are installed.
4. If required (pilots’ preference) the angle of the rudder pedals can be adjusted slightly forward to improve
the comfort level of the new pedals.
See section “5.2 Part B - Adjustment of the Rudder Pedal Angles”.

5.2 Part B - Adjustment of the Rudder Pedal Angles
NOTE: Part B is affecting the control systems and must be signed off by an Approved Maintenance
Inspector and be certified in the sailplane inspection documents and/or sailplane logbook.
This part is only required if the angle of the rudder pedals needs to be adjusted to improve the
comfort to the pilot.
1. If installed, remove the Jet engine box and Jet ECU as described in the Jet Sustainer Maintenance Manual.
2. Locate the rudder bell crank BC1R behind the B9 bulkhead in the engine bay area.
3. The adjustment can be made by relocating the rudder cable adjustment plates connected to the rudder bell
crank.

4. Loosen the M6 Nyloc nut and remove the bolt securing the adjustment plates in position.
5. Move the adjustment plates to the next forward position. It can be moved further forward in a next iteration
if the setup angles are still not satisfactory.
6. Insert the bolt and ensure the bolt goes through both the top and bottom adjustment plates. Secure in
place with a new M6 Nyloc nut.
NOTE: Do not over tighten the nut. The adjustment plates need to be able to swivel on the rudder bell
crank during operation.
7. Install the Jet engine box and Jet ECU as described in the Jet Sustainer Maintenance Manual.
