Warning
If you need to operate the unit while driving, be ure to
look around carefully or you may be involved in a traffic
accident.
Caution on volume setting
Di c produce very little noi e compared with other ource .
Lower the volume before playing a di c to avoid damaging
the peaker by the udden increa e of the output level.

If you have parked the car for a long time in hot or cold
weather, wait until the temperature in the car become
normal before operating the unit.

Installation/connection are explained at the last section o this manual (reverse page, indicated with
symbol).
To keep discs clean
Wipe in a traight line from center of di c to
edge. Do not u e liquid cleaner , thinner , or
benzene.
To play new discs
Remove any rough area from the inner and
outer edge of the di c.
MAINTENANCE
How to clean the connectors
Wipe the connector with
a cotton wab or cloth
moi tened with alcohol.
Moisture condensation
Moi ture may conden e on the len in ide the unit. Eject
the di c and leave the unit turned on for a few hour until
the moi ture ha evaporated.
Do not use the ollowing discs:
Connector
– The pickup len in ide the unit i dirty.
– The file on the CD-R/CD-RW are written u ing the
“Packet Write” method.
– There are improper recording condition (mi ing data,
etc.) or media condition ( tained, cratched, warped,
etc.).
• CD-RW may require a longer readout time ince the
reflectance of CD-RW i lower than that of regular CD .
Playing an MP3/WMA disc
• Thi unit can play back MP3/WMA file with the
exten ion code <.mp3> or <.wma> (regardle of the
letter ca e—upper/lower).
• Thi unit can how the name of album , arti t
(performer), and tag (Ver ion 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3, or 2.4) for
MP3 file and for WMA file
• Thi unit can di play only one-byte character . No other
character can be correctly di played.
• Thi unit can play back MP3/WMA file meeting the
condition below:
– Bit rate: 8 kbp — 320 kbp
– Sampling frequency:
48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 32 kHz (for MPEG-1)
24 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 16 kHz (for MPEG-2)
– Di c format: ISO 9660 Level 1/ Level 2, Romeo, Joliet,
Window long file name
• The maximum number of character for file/folder name
vary depending on the di c format u ed (include 4
exten ion character —<.mp3> or <.wma>).
– ISO 9660 Level 1: up to 12 character ; ISO 9660 Level
2: up to 31 character ; Romeo: up to 128 character ;
Joliet: up to 64 character ; Window long file name: up
to 128 character
• Thi unit can recognize a total of 512 file , 255 folder ,
and 8 hierarchical level .
• Thi unit can play back file recorded in VBR (variable bit
rate).
File recorded in VBR have a di crepancy in the elap ed
time di play, and do not how the actual elap ed time.
In particular, thi difference become noticeable after
performing the earch function.
• Thi unit cannot play back the following file :
– MP3 file encoded in: MP3i and MP3 PRO format, in an
inappropriate format, layer 1/2.
– WMA file : encoded in lo le , profe ional, and voice
format; not ba ed upon Window Media® Audio; copy-
protected with DRM.
– File which have data uch a WAVE, ATRAC3, etc.

Basic operations
• By pre ing SRC on the unit, you can al o turn on the
power. If the ource i ready, playback al o tart .
• If you turn off the power while li tening to a di c, di c
play will tart from where it had been topped previou ly
next time you turn on the power.
Tuner operations
• During SSM earch...
– All previou ly tored tation are era ed and the
tation are tored anew.
– Received tation are pre et in No. 1 (lowe t
frequency) to No. 6 (highe t frequency).
– When SSM i over, the tation tored in No. 1 will be
automatically tuned in.
• Network-Tracking Reception require two type of
RDS ignal —PI (Programme Identification) and AF
(Alternative Frequency) to work correctly.
• If a Traffic Announcement i received by TA Standby
Reception, the volume level automatically change to the
pre et level (TA VOL) if the current level i lower than the
pre et level.
• When Alternative Frequency Reception i activated
(with AF elected), Network-Tracking Reception i al o
activated automatically. On the other hand, Network-
Tracking Reception cannot be deactivated without
deactivating Alternative Frequency Reception.

Disc operations
Caution or DualDisc playback
• The Non-DVD ide of a “DualDi c” doe not comply with
the “Compact Di c Digital Audio” tandard. Therefore, the
u e of Non-DVD ide of a DualDi c on thi product may
not be recommended.
General
• Thi unit ha been de igned to reproduce CD /CD Text ,
and CD-R (Recordable)/CD-RW (Rewritable) in audio CD
(CD-DA) and MP3/WMA format .
Playing a CD-R or CD-RW
• U e only “finalized” CD-R or CD-RW .
• Thi unit can play back multi- e ion di c ; however,
unclo ed e ion will be kipped while playing.
• Some CD-R or CD-RW may not be played back on thi
unit:
– Di c are dirty or cratched.
– Moi ture conden ation ha occurred on the len in ide
the unit.

Standby receptions
TA Standby Reception
TA Standby Reception allow the unit to witch
temporarily to Traffic Announcement (TA) from any
ource other than AM.
To activate/deactivate
• If the TP indicator fla he , TA Standby
Reception i not yet activated.
To activate TA Standby Reception,
tune in to another tation providing
RDS ignal required for TA Standby
Reception.
PTY Standby Reception
PTY Standby Reception allow the unit to witch
temporarily to your favourite PTY programme from any
ource other than AM.
To activate and select your avourite PTY code or
PTY Standby Reception, ee “General etting —PSM.”

Prohibiting disc ejection

To cancel the prohibition, repeat the ame procedure.

Selecting the playback modes

RPT OFF : Cancel .
FLDR RND * : Play all track of the current
folder, then the track of the
next folder at random.
ALL RND : Play all track of the current

RND OFF : Cancel .

Skipping a track quickly during play
• For MP3/WMA di c, you can kip a track within the
ame folder.

All track will be played repeatedly until you change the ource or eject the di c.

INSTALLATION / CONNECTION
PREPARATION
Thi unit i de igned to operate on 12 V DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical
systems. If your vehicle doe not have thi y tem, a voltage inverter i required,
which can be purcha ed at JVC IN-CAR ENTERTAINMENT dealer .
WARNINGS
To prevent hort circuit , we recommend that you di connect the battery’ negative terminal and make all electrical
connection before in talling the unit.
• Be sure to ground this unit to the car’s chassis again a ter installation.
Notes:
• Replace the fu e with one of the pecified rating. If the fu e blow frequently, con ult your JVC IN-CAR ENTERTAINMENT
dealer.
• It i recommended to connect to the peaker with maximum power of more than 50 W (both at the rear and at the front,
with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω). If the maximum power i le than 50 W, change “AMP GAIN” etting to prevent the
peaker from being damaged ( ee “General etting —PSM”).
• To prevent hort-circuit, cover the terminal of the UNUSED lead with in ulating tape.
• The heat ink become very hot after u e. Be careful not to touch it when removing thi
unit.

1 Connect the colored lead of the power cord in the order pecified in the illu tration below.
2 Connect the aerial cord.
3 Finally connect the wiring harne to the unit.
Note: If your vehicle doe not have any acce ory terminal, move the fu e from the fu e po ition 1 (initial po ition) to
fu e po ition 2, and connect the red lead (A7) to the po itive (+) battery terminal.
