1.2Preventingstaticelectricity
Electrostaticdischarge(ESD),whichoccurswhenstaticelectricitystoredinthebody,fabric, etc.isdischarged, can destroythe laser
diodeinthetraverseunit (opticalpickup). Takecaretoprevent thiswhen performing repairs.
1.2.1Groundingtopreventdamageby staticelectricity
Staticelectricityinthe workareacandestroytheoptical pickup (laser diode)indevicessuchasCDplayers.
Becarefultouseproper grounding inthe areawhererepairsarebeingperformed.
(1)Ground theworkbench
Ground theworkbenchbylayingconductivematerial(suchasaconductivesheet) oran iron plateoverit beforeplacingthe
traverseunit (opticalpickup)on it.
(2)Ground yourself
Use an anti-staticwriststraptoreleaseany staticelectricitybuiltup inyourbody.
(3)Handlingtheopticalpickup
Inordertomaintainqualityduring transport andbeforeinstallation,bothsidesofthelaserdiodeonthereplacementoptical
pickupareshorted. After replacement,returntheshortedpartstotheir original condition.
(Refer tothetext.)
Donotuseatestertochecktheconditionof thelaserdiodeintheopticalpickup. The tester'sinternalpower sourcecan easily
destroythelaserdiode.
1.3Handlingthetraverseunit (optical pickup)
(1)Donot subjectthetraverseunit (opticalpickup) tostrongshocks, asitisasensitive, complexunit.
(2)Cutoff theshortedpart of theflexiblecableusingnippers, etc.afterreplacingtheopticalpickup.Forspecificdetails,refertothe
replacementprocedureinthetext.Removetheanti-staticpinwhenreplacingthe traverseunit. Becareful nottotaketoolong a
timewhen attachingit totheconnector.
(3)Handletheflexiblecablecarefullyasitmaybreakwhen subjected tostrong force.
(4)It isnot possibletoadjust the semi-fixedresistorthat adjuststhelaserpower. Donotturnit.

*Pleasereferto"Disassemblymethod"inthetext fortheCDpickupunit.
Applysoldertotheshortlandbeforetheflexiblewireisdisconnectedfromthe connector ontheCDpickupunit.
(If theflexiblewireisdisconnectedwithout applyingsolder, the CDpickupmaybedestroyedbystaticelectricity.)
Intheassembly, besuretoremove solderfromtheshort landafter connecting the flexiblewire.

CAUTION:
Beforedisconnecting theflexiblewirefromthe pickup,solder
theshort-circuit pointonthepickup. Noobservanceof thisin-
structionmaycausedamageofthepickup.
(1)Removethescrew Bfixingtheconnectorboard.
(2)Solder theshort-circuit point onthe pickup.
(3)Disconnecttheflexiblewirefromthepickup.
(4)Movetheconnectorboardinthedirectionofthearrowto
releasethetwojoints b.
(5)Unsolderthewiresonthe connector boardif necessary.
CAUTION:
Unsoldertheshort-circuit point afterreassembling.

ontheundersideof thechassisunit areinsertedtothe
damperscertainly.

(2)Disconnectthewirefromthe loading/feedmotorassembly
if necessary.

Whenreassembling,connectthewirefromtheloading/
feed motorassemblytotheflameasshowninFig.12.

(1)Removethescrew Dandpull outthepu.shaft holderfrom
thepu.shaft.
(2)Removethescrew Eattachingthefeed sw.holder.
(3)Movethepart eofthepickupunit upwardwiththepu. shaft
andthefeedsw.holder,thenreleasethejoint fofthefeed
sw.holderinthedirectionofthearrow.The joint gofthe
pickup unit andthefeedrackisreleased, andthefeedsw.
holder comes off.
(4)Removethepu. shaft fromthe pickupunit.
(5)Removethescrew Fattachingthefeedracktothe pickup
unit.

(1)Reattachthefeedracktothepickupunit usingthescrew F.
(2)Reattachthefeed sw.holdertothefeed rackwhilesetting
thejoint gtothe slot of the feedrackand settingthejoint f
ofthefeedracktothe switchofthefeedsw.holder correct-
ly.
(3)Asthefeedsw.holderistemporarilyattachedtothe pickup
unit, set tothe gear ofthe joint gandtothebendingpart of
thechassis(joint h) at atime.
CAUTION:
Makesurethatthepartionthe undersideofthefeed
rack iscertainlyinsertedtotheslotjofthechangelock
lever.
(4)Reattachthefeedsw. holder usingthe screw E.
(5)Reattachthe pu.shaft tothepickupunit. Reattachthepu.
shaftholdertothe pu. shaftusing thescrew D.
