UX-N5 Compact Component system consists of the
main unit (CA-UXN5) and the speaker system (SP-
UXN5).
Auto Power Save function (APS)
0When no operation is done in certain situations for
15 minutes, the unit turns off automatically.

0The remote control buttons are used for
explaining the operations unless mentioned
otherwise. However, if the unit has buttons with
the same or similar names, they can also be used
for the operations.
0In this manual, “file” and “track”, “folder” and
“group” are used interchangeablly when
explaining operations for MP3/WMA.

Precautions
Do not cover the ventilation openings. Doing so keep
the heat to remain inside of the unit, which may cause
fire. Use extra cautions about the following:
0Do not place the unit on its side, upside down, or the
front side facing upward.
0Do not place the unit in a place such as bookshelves,
closet, etc without adequate ventilation.
0Do not cover the ventilation openings with items,
such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc.
0Do not place the unit on books or magazines.
0Do not place the unit directly on carpet.
0Ensure that the equipment is positioned in a well
ventilated area and ensure that there is at least 10
cm of free space along the sides, top and back of
the equipment.

System Connections
After checking all the connections have been made correctly, plug the AC power lead of this unit into the wall
socket.

Unplug the AC power lead from the wall socket if the
unit will not be in use for a prolonged period of time.

Included FM aerial
When connecting the FM areal to the main unit,
connect it to the center of the FM areal terminal firmly.
Extend the FM aerial when connecting so that you can
obtain the best reception.
External FM aerial (commercially available)
If the included FM aerial is unable to receive well, use
an external FM aerial. When an external FM aerial is
used, disconnect the included FM aerial wire.
Note
Placing the aerial on the unit, near the AC power or
electronic devices lead may cause noise pickup. Move
the aerial away from the AC power lead if it is located
nearby.
Speaker connection
0Do not connect more than 2 speakers into 1
terminal.
0Do not allow the speaker wire to touch the metal part
of the main unit.
0Speakers of the main unit are not designed to shield
magnetics. When placing this unit near a CRT
television, place it away from the television to avoid
color irregularity of the television.
0Do not let the speaker wires touch each other.

Preparation for Use

Removing saran nets
Saran nets are removable.

You can connect a subwoofer with an amplifier to the

Connecting iPod/iPhone to TV
Video files from iPod/iPhone can be viewed by
connecting the unit to TV/monitor.
Place the iPod/iPhone to the dock, and then connect
the Video input terminal of the TV or monitor and the
VIDEO OUT socket at the back of this unit. Then, by
press and hold the [iPod DISPLAY / TV OUT] button
on the remote control, set the TV out function to On.

Note
0TV out display is not support through USB terminal.
0To playback videos on iPod/iPhone screen, press
[iPod DISPLAY/TV OUT] for more than 2 seconds,
until “TV OUT OFF” is displayed.

Battery installation
1Open the battery cover.

0The included battery is for checking system
operations. Replace it with a new one as soon as
possible.
0If the range or effectiveness of the remote control
decreases, replace the battery.
0Periodically clean the transmitter on the remote
control and the sensor on the unit with a soft cloth.
0Exposing the sensor on the unit to strong light may
interfere with operations. Change the direction of the
unit if this occurs.
0Keep the remote control away from moisture, heat,
shock, and vibrations.
0Read through the attached Safety Precaution to
ensure the safe usage of the batteries.
Operating range of the remote control
Point the remote control directly at the remote sensor
on the unit.
The remote control can be used within the range
shown below:

Turning on the Power
1Press the [A] button.
Press the [A] button to enter the power standby
mode.
When you press any of the following buttons, the unit
turns on.

0h[I/W]N button on the main unit: The unit turns on
and playback of the last function will start. (TUNER,
iPod, AUDIO IN, AUX, NETWORK)
Setting the Network Standby
0The first time the unit is plugged in, the unit will enter
NETWORK STANDBY.

0Auto power on function is activated when the main
unit is set to Network Standby. (p. 11)
0To cancel Network Standby, press the [DIMMER/
NETWORK STANDBY] button (remote control)
during power standby mode. The unit will enter the
low power consumption mode.
0To return to Network Standby, press the [DIMMER/
NETWORK STANDBY] button (remote control)
again.
0When iPod or iPhone is connected to the iPod/
iPhone dock, battery charge starts and “Charge
Mode” is displayed. NETWORK STANDBY is
invalid during charge mode.
Volume up/down
1Turn the volume knob (on main unit) or press
[VOLUME+/-] (on remote control) to increase
or decrease the volume.
Volume auto fade-in
If you turn off and on the main unit with the volume set
to 27 or higher, the volume starts at 16. The volume
fades in to the last set level.
To mute the volume temporarily
1Press the [MUTING] button.
“MUTING” is flashed and the sound is muted
temporarily.
0Press again to restore the volume.
Bass (HBS) adjustment
1Press the [HBS] button.
Current HBS setup is displayed.
0When the power is turned on for the first time,
Bass mode is set to ON.
0Press the [HBS] button to switch the Bass
mode to ON or OFF.
0“HBS ON”/“HBS OFF” will be displayed.
Bass/Treble adjustment
1Press the [BASS/TREBLE] button to select
“Bass” (bass) or “Treble” (treble).
2Within 5 seconds, press the [VOLUME+/-]
button to adjust the bass/treble.
0HBS is set to OFF.

Selecting a Source
Pressing the buttons for each sound source on the
remote control, or the [SOURCE] button on the main
unit will switch from the currently selected source to
the other source. Press the [iPod], [CD], [USB/iPad],
[AUDIO IN/AUX], [TUNER] or [NETWORK] on the
remote control.
Select the desired source by pressing the [SOURCE]
button on main unit repeatedly.

Network
A.P.S. (Auto Power Save) Function
The main unit will enter the standby mode after 15
minutes of inactivity during:
0CDh: In the stop mode or no disc.
0USBh In a stop mode or not connected.
0iPodh: Not docked.
0AUDIO IN/AUXh No detection of input signal.
- when AUDIO IN/AUX is selected, it may take a
little while for the power of the unit to be shut off,
depending on the noise condition.

0When iPod/iPhone is connected to the iPod/iPhone
dock, battery charge starts. “Charge Mode” will be
displayed.
0If the sound source is USB and iPod/iPhone is
connected to the iPod/iPhone dock (when “iPod
Dock Charge Mode” is displayed), A.P.S function is
not active.
Auto Power On function
During Network Standby, if UX-N5 is selected by
AirPlay/DLNA device and playback is started, this unit
turns on the power automatically and the music is
output from the speaker of this unit.
This condition applies when:
0Network has previously been set up between the
unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device. (p. 14)
0This unit is set to NETWORK STANDBY. (p. 10)
Note
Press the [ENTER] button on the remote control when
“Press ENTER to start streaming” is displayed.
AirPlay/DLNA Auto Switch
For sources other than NETWORK, if “UX-N5” is
selected by AirPlay/DLNA device and playback is
started, the source is switched to NETWORK
automatically and music from AirPlay/DLNA device is
played back.
This condition applies when:
0Network has previously been set up between the
unit and your AirPlay/DLNA device. (p. 14)

Press the [ENTER] button on the remote control when
“Press ENTER to start streaming” is displayed.

Clock Setting (Remote Control
Only)
1Press the [A] button to turn on the power.
2Press the [CLOCK/TIMER] button.
3Within 5 seconds, press the [ENTER] button.
4To adjust the day, press the [S/T] button
and then press the [ENTER] button.
5Press the [S/T] button to select 24-hour
or 12-hour display and then press the
[ENTER] button.

pressing the button repeatedly.
7To adjust the minute, press the [S/T]
button and then press the [ENTER] button.
0Press the [S/T] button once to advance
the time by 1 minute. Hold it down to advance
the time by 5 minutes interval.
To confirm the time display
1Press the [CLOCK/TIMER] button.
The time is displayed for 5 seconds.
Note
When power supply is restored after unit is plugged in
again or after a power failure, time indicator will flash.
Reset the clock again.
To readjust the clock
1Perform step 1 at “Setting the clock (Remote
control only)”.
Step 5 (selecting 24-hour or 12-hour display) will
be skipped.
To change the 24-hour or 12-hour
display
1Clear all the programmed contents.
Refer to the “Factory reset, clearing all memory”
in p. 44.
2Perform step 1 at “Clock Setting (Remote
Control Only)”.
Display Brightness Control
To dim the display brightness, press the [DIMMER/
NETWORK STANDBY] button on the remote control.

There are two ways to connect this unit and your
AirPlay/DLNA device, wireless connection (direct
wireless connection) and wireless connection via
wireless LAN router.
0Use of a wireless LAN router is recommended if
possible.
0This unit cannot be used as a wireless LAN router.
Use a wireless LAN router to connect your AirPlay/
DLNA device to the internet.
Caution
0When this unit is placed too close to a wireless LAN
device or microwave, noise interference may occur,
causing crackling sound. It may also reduce the
communication speed and cause invalid
connection. Place the unit away from the wireless
LAN device or microwave.
0This unit is not guaranteed to operate with all the
AirPlay/DLNA compatible devices or wireless LAN
routers. Please be noted in advance.
About AirPlay
With Apple AirPlay technology, you can stream your
music from your Mac/Windows/iPod touch/iPhone/
iPad to external speakers.
AirPlay usage requires:
0iTunes version 10.2 or later

About DLNA
With DLNA technology, this unit can play back music
which is stored on your PC and/or mobile devices via
wireless connection.
DLNA usage requires:
0Mobile devices supporting DLNA
- Refer to the instruction manual of your device.
0DLNA application with server function (DMS)
- About the DMS support, refer to the help page of
the installed application.
0Windows Media Player 12 (Windows 7)
- Windows Media Player 11 or earlier version of
Windows Media Player can not be used for
playback.
0DLNA version 1.5
Note
0Depending on the DLNA application, you may
experience malfunctions during network connection
or playing back. Try another application in such a
case.
0DRM files cannot be played back.
0Streaming audio sounds of the recorded videos
from DLNA devices is not supported by this unit.

Direct Connection to the Main Unit
(Direct Wireless Connection)
1Press the [A] button.
2Press the [NETWORK] button.
3Press the [Wi-Fi SET UP] button on the
remote control.
4Press the [K / J] button to select “Wi-Fi
Setup”, and then press the [ENTER] button.
5Press the [K / J] button to select “Direct”,
and then press the [ENTER] button.
0Wait until the display shows “Direct Ready”
which takes about 40 seconds.
6On iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, select “Wi-Fi”
from “Settings”, and then set to ON.
0On the Android device, select “Wireless &
networks” in “Settings”, and then select “Wi-Fi
settings”.
0On PC, open the screen for the wireless LAN
network setup.

11 Press the [ENTER] button when “Press
ENTER to startstreaming” is displayed.
Audio is output from the speaker.

0When “Press ENTER to start streaming” is
displayed on the main unit, the main unit is waiting
for the playback to be started.
0The last 6 digits xxxxxx is MAC ID. Details on
checking MAC ID, refer to p. 18.

Connection via Wireless Router
with WPS
Make sure that a wireless LAN router is connected to
the mobile device or PC.
1Press the [A] button.
2Press the [NETWORK] button.
3Press the [Wi-Fi SET UP] button on the
remote control.
4Press the [K / J] button to select “Wi-Fi
Setup”, and then press the [ENTER] button.
5Press the [K / J] button to select “WPS”, and
then press the [ENTER] button.
“WPS Ready” will be displayed.
6Press the [WPS] button on the wireless
router.

WPS
Wait until ‘I H’ on the display stop blinking and
the display shows “Successfully connected to
[network name]”. It takes about 2 minutes.
7On iPod touch/iPhone/iPad, start a “Music”
application to display the “Now Playing”
screen.
0On PC, start iTunes or Windows Media Player
12. Start DLNA compatible application on
other DLNA compatible devices.
0Refer to the help page of your device for further
detail.
8Tap or click the AirPlay icon (M) to select
the speaker (UX-N5 xxxxxx).

0If connection has failed, the display will show
‘Cannot connect to Network. Please try again’.
Repeat step 3 to retry.
0Once setting is completed, operations from step 3
to 6 are unnecessary.

Router without WPS Function
(SSID Connection)
1Press the [A] button.
2Press the [NETWORK] button on the remote
control.
3Press the [Wi-Fi SET UP] button on the
remote control.
4Press the [K / J] button to select “Wi-Fi
Setup”, and then press the [ENTER] button.
5Press the [K / J] button to select “SSID Set”
, and then press the [ENTER] button.
0Wait until the display shows “SSID Ready”
which takes about 40 seconds.

You can add other AirPlay / DLNA devices to join the
same Wi-Fi network as the unit.

Fi” from “Settings”, and then set to ON.
0On the Android device, select “Wireless &
networks” in “Settings”, and then select “Wi-Fi
settings”.
0On PC, open the screen for the wireless LAN
