1. Introduction
The Kanguru Media X-change is a unique portable hard drive/card reader capable of
downloading and storing data from any media card! Simply fill up your media cards, then
download the data to the Media X-change with the press of a button and re-use the card!
Use it with your PDA, Digital Camera or any other device that utilizes media cards! The
Kanguru Media X-change also doubles as a lightweight portable hard drive capable of storing
large amounts of data.
A rechargeable battery pack and small, lightweight design make the Kanguru Media X-
change extremely portable. Use it on the road, then at the end of your trip, plug the Media X-
change into an available USB port and download everything to your computer! It’s fast, easy
and convenient.

6.) Driver Installation
*****Drivers only required for Win98/98SE/2000 and Mac******
Windows 98/98 SE, Win2000 Driver Installation
For ease of use you may want to print out this manual.
(1) Insert the Drivers disk into your CD-ROM drive and double click
the icon of CD-ROM drive in "My computer" then find the KanguruMedia X-change
driver folder.
(2) Execute "Setup.exe" by double clicking the icon. This will install the required drivers onto
your system. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
(3) After the driver files was copied to your Windows operating system,
please restart the computer to complete the installation process.
(4) And you will find " Removeable Disk" drives detected by the operating system.
(5) For "Windows ME ", the operating system will detect and recognize the
"Removeable Disk " by using the system’s USB driver.

7.) Using the KanguruMedia X-change
• Downloading digital images or data from memory cards to KanguruMedia X-change
1.) Insert memory card(s) into the appropriate card slot .
2.) Power on the KanguruMedia X-change and press the "File Copy" button to begin
the file transfer.
3.) The file transfer has finished once the LED indicators have stopped flashing.
• Downloading the digital images or data from KanguruMedia X-change to PC
1.) Connect KanguruMedia X-change to your PC with the provided USB cable.
2.) Double Click the "My computer" icon. The operating system will
display 4 "Removeable Disk" icons, identifying the media types
correspondingly.
3.) You can then read, write, copy, delete, and remove data using the PC.
8.) Recharging the Battery Pack
• Charge for a full 8 hours before using for the first time.
• The batteries need to be recharged when the LED indicator for power is red. When the
power LED is flashing you should recharge soon.
• To charge the batteries, connect the plug of the AC adapter to DC 12V jack on the
Kanguru Media X-change. When the power LED light is no longer light up, it
indicates the batteries are fully charged.
• Charge batteries for a full 8 hours for the first charge, and 4 hours each additional
charge.
• The battery life is approximately 2.5 hours of usage.
9.) General Information
• All files transfered from each memory card are stored on the Hard Disk in numerical
folders, under the name "CF0001 “, "MS0001”, "SM0001”, and "SD0001".
• The KanguruMedia X-change has an auto power off function to preserve battery life.
If your KanguruMedia X-change is idle it will automatically turn off.
• When the LED indicators of error and a memory card light up, there may be a chance
of corrupt data or the memory card may be damaged.
• If any shut down is caused by an erroneaous operation, you can press the reset button
located on the side of the KanguruMedia X-change.

10.) FAQ-Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can KanguruMedia X-change support Linux Kernel version 2.3 or earlier?
A1: No, the KanguruMedia X-change only support Linux Kernel version 2.4.0 or later.

Q2: Linux 2.4 does not automatically recognize my KanguruMedia X-change?
A2: Linux uses a so-called " USB Manager" , which automatically loads
kernel modules (drivers ) for USB devices . It loads only drivers for devices that are
present on the USB bus to reduce memory usage. Per default, the USB Manager does not
come with KanguruMedia X-change pre-configured . However , you can easily configure
the USB Manager to automatically recognize the KanguruMedia X-change yourself .Just
add the following to the configuration file, usbmgr.conf(usually in /etc/usbmgr):
vendor 0xd7d product 0x100 module scsi_mod, usb-storage
This line identifies the KanguruMedia X-change and tells the USB Manager to load the
SCSI as well as the USB storage module. The SCSI module is needed in order to talk to
both SCSI and USB Storage devices, while the USB-storage module is needed to talk to
USB storage devices. Do not forget to either reload the USB Manager's configuration or to
restart the USB Manager (for instance , do as root :/etc/init.d/usbmgr reload)
Q3: What operating systems can the KanguruMedia X-change operate on?
A3: The KanguruMedia X-change can be operated on any of the following OS : Windows 98,
Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac 8.6 or above and
Linux 2.4.0 or above.
Q4: My computer cannot detect the KanguruMedia X-change .What should I do?
A4: If you are using Windows98/ Windows ME / Windows 2000 / Windows XP , make sure
the USB fucntion is enable in the BIOS , and Windows has detected the USB port
sucessfully , if the O/S is Windows 98/ 98SE/2000 ,then install the KanguruMedia X-
change driver.

Q5: What kind of data can be stored on the KanguruMedia X-change?
A5: You can save any type of files on the KanguruMedia X-change, whether it is text, graphics,
programs, audio, or multimedia files.
Q6: Can a virus infect the KanguruMedia X-change? How can I prevent it?
A6: Yes , the KanguruMedia X-change is just like your hard drive , it can get a virus via any
files that you save onto it . Therefore anti-virus software is recommended .
Q7: Do I need to turn my computer off when installing the KanguruMedia X-change?
A7: No, the KanguruMedia X-change is a hot plug and play device . You can install the
KanguruMedia X-change at anytime
Q8: Can the KanguruMedia X-change work on earlier PC's?
A8: Yes, as long as it has a USB interface available , and drive has been set up properly. Also
the operating system must support USB devices.
Q9: When the light on the KanguruMedia X-change is flashing , what does that mean?
A9: When the light is flashing, it means the KanguruMedia X-change is in use and data
transfer is taking place between the KanguruMedia X-change and host machine.
Q10: Is it safe to remove the KanguruMedia X-change while files are being transferred?

A10: No , when the light is flashing it means data transfer is taking place. Do NOT remove the
KanguruMedia X-change, as it may result in loss of data, or even damage the
KanguruMedia X-change.
Q11: What personal computers does the KanguruMedia X-change support?
A11: KanguruMedia X-change supports all PCs, that have USB port connections and run
under the operating systems that the KanguruMedia X-change supports .
Q12: Can the data on the KanguruMedia X-change be shared in a networking
enviroment?
A12: Yes, the data can be shared in a networking enviroment as long as the host machine
enables the share function for the KanguruMedia X-change. (Just like sharing your Hard
Drive)
Q13: Why can’t my KanguruMedia X-change read my SmartMedia card?
A13: You may have inserted the Smart Media card incorrectly. Make sure that you have
inserted the card with the gold facing up.
Q14: Can the KanguruMedia X-change be formatted? How?
A14: Yes, the KanguruMedia X-change can be formatted under Windows 98, Windows ME,
Windows 2000, Windows Xp, Mac, and Linux with using normal formatting function .
Q15: Can the KanguruMedia X-change be used under DOS environment?
A15: No, the KanguruMedia X-change cannot be used under DOS environment because DOS
does not support USB devices.
Q16: What operating systems will the KanguruMedia X-change NOT support?
A16: The KanguruMedia X-change will not suppor t Windows 95 or Windows NT , since both
of these operating systems do not support USB devices.
Q17: Can other programs be running at the same time while using the KanguruMedia X-
change?
A17: Yes.
Q18: Can ScanDisk be used with the KanguruMedia X-change?
A18: Yes.
Q19: What should I do if the KanguruMedia X-change icon does not appear / disappear
on the screen after inserting /extracting?
A19: Simply click the "view"menu and select "Refresh."
Q20: Can the KanguruMedia X-change be used as a card reader without transferring the
data to the hard drive.
A20: Yes, your KanguruMedia X-change will operate as a card reader/writer when it’s
connected to your computer.
Q21: Will the Media X-change transfer more than one card at a time if they are in
different slots?
A21: Yes, the Media X-change will transfer each card’s data into it’s own folder. This allows
you to transfer to the hard drive from mulitple cards.

This product carries a *1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, including 90
days labor.
