OWNER’S MANUAL

As a Gemologist, jewelry manufacturer and retail jeweler, I
recognized the need for a quality home cleaning system for ne
jewelry. Over the last 65 years, options for cleaning ne jewelry,
at home, have been limited to liquid in a jar, a spray on foam, or
devices that shake your jewelry. Sadly, many have resorted to
cleaning their precious jewelry with a toothbrush and toothpaste
and yet the one thing all these cleaners have in common is that they
all deliver poor results.
When I discovered Jewelry Hygiene® over ve years ago, the idea of
cleaning jewelry took on a whole new meaning. Not only did our
jewelry need to look its best but our health and our family’s health
was now a major concern. Where there is dirt there is bacteria!
When you wear your jewelry day after day, month after month
without properly cleaning it, viruses and bacteria will grow into a
bio-lm that builds up inside your rings, bracelets and chains.
When it came time to develop the GemSpa®, I enlisted Dean Kamen,
one of the world’s most prolic inventors! Together, we created a
home jewelry cleaning system that utilizes the cleaning elements
of the dishwasher to clean your ne jewelry, increasing its aesthetic
beauty, and eliminating bacteria.
One of the GemSpa’s patented components are the surgical-
grade stainless steel diuser plates that were designed to convert
streams of water from the dishwasher into a soft spray we call the
“Spa Eect.”This soft spray of water gently and eectively washes
your jewelry with professional results. With the addition of the Anti-
Bacterial Hydro-Gel, your jewelry is not only cleaned, but sanitized!
Two and a half years of research and development went into
designing the GemSpa® and I am proud that you have selected the
Wave as your new home jewelry cleaner. This manual will provide
you with instructions on how to properly use the Wave, and also
answer the most commonly asked questions.
In addition, I have included a toll free number [phone] which

IMPORTANT FACT: If your jewelry has not been professionally
cleaned in several months, it may be necessary to run your
jewelry through the dishwasher two or three times in a row to
remove all the months of built-up dirt and bacteria.

First, slide the locking mechanism to
the left to unlock the cover and open
it completely so that the top lies at.
(See g. 1) As the cover opens fully you
will notice that the two center arms lift
slightly to allow you to place rings and
earrings.
Each arm has the capacity to hold three
rings separated by the dividers located
on top of the arm. (See g. 2A) This
allows room to hold up to 6 rings at the
same time. Hoop earrings may also be
placed in the dividers; you will also see
6 holes designated for stud earrings.

Secure your jewelry safely by placing each item in its
designated area.

For rings just place each ring between
the dividers, for hoop earrings simply
lock the clasp on the hoop and place
one earring in between each divider.
(See g. 3A) For studs, remove the
earring back, place it through the hole
and secure the earring from behind. For
best cleaning results, attach the stud
facing down. (See g. 3B).
The bottom area is open to hold
bracelets, chains or any items too large
it t on the arms. Use the two wide
posts as anchors to help keep items
separated. You can stack 3 or 4 items
in this area as shown. (See g. 4) Once
loaded, rotate the cover back over the
base and slide the lock to the right until
you hear an audible click sound. This
will indicate the lock is secure.

squeeze out a stream of Hydro-Gel into

on the top of the GemSpa, (See g.
5) As the dishwasher runs, hydro-
gel mixes with the water to remove
bacteria and viruses from your jewelry.
Our research has shown that bacteria loads reach a dangerous
level within as little as one week of daily wear. Therefore, we
recommend that you clean your jewelry in your GemSpa® once a
week.
Now place the GemSpa® in the top rack of your dishwasher, with
your dishes and set your dishwasher to the same setting you use
when you normally clean your dishes. Please Do Not select a lower
wash cycle this will only reduce the cleaning eect. Use the normal
wash cycle or higher for best results. The GemSpa works extremely
well with all dishwasher soaps. After the wash cycle is done and
your machine is completely nished, take out your GemSpa®, open
it by using the same procedure when inserting your jewelry, and
remove your sparkling clean and sanitize jewelry.

important to know what elements contribute to the contamination of
your jewelry. Most of us are aware that ne jewelry is constructed to
withstand the rigors of daily wear and tear. However, the brilliance of
diamonds and the color of gemstones is diminished quickly by the hand
creams, dried on soap residue, dead skin cells and everything else we
touch daily. Like a magnet, contaminants attach themselves to your ne
jewelry.

with deposits of dirt that are virtually impossible to remove with
standard home jewelry cleaners.
The jeweler, who utilizes an expensive professional jewelry
cleaning system, uses a combination of hot water (under pressure),
steam and a detergent to dissolve the oil, dirt and germs that are
trapped in your jewelry. The GemSpa® was invented to harness

Commonly Asked Questions
1. Will the pressure, heat and dishwasher soap
harm my jewelry or loosen the gemstones?
No, ne jewelry is designed to withstand the abuse of everyday
wear. When the dishwasher water passes through our stainless steel
diusers, the eect is similar to that of a shower.
2. Should I examine my jewelry closely before
placing it in the GemSpa®?
Yes! We provide a loupe with each GemSpa™ so you can examine
not only how dirty your jewelry is but also look for broken prongs
or loose stones that might need the attention of your jeweler. In the
unlikely event that a gemstone does fall out of your jewelry, it will
be kept secure within the Wave.
3. Can I clean my dishes and use my regular
dishwasher soap when using the GemSpa®?
Absolutely Yes! Use any brand of dishwasher soap with the
GemSpa®; the soap will enhance the cleaning process in the same
way it does for your dishes. This also holds true for the use of rinse
aids as well.
4. Why use the Anti-Bacterial Hydro-Gel?
When I discovered Jewelry Hygiene® I was amazed at the heavy
bacteria loads found on nearly every item of jewelry, cleaning
jewelry requires more than just removing the dirt. Jewelry needs to
be sanitized to remove the bacteria and viruses lurking on it. Using
the Hydro-Gel eliminates germs and bacteria.
Our Anti-Bacterial Hydro-Gel is completely safe and has been in use
for over 40 years in the cosmetic products industry and has been
used safely on the face and around the eyes.
5. Can I clean all jewelry in the GemSpa®?
No. However, 90% of your ne jewelry can be used in the GemSpa®,
there are a few items that are sensitive to the heat and hot water.
Please consult the list located at the end of this manual. It will
list jewelry than can be cleaned in the Wave as well as those that
cannot. If you do not nd your item on the recommended list,

for the latest updated list.

6. Will the cover open and my jewelry go down
the drain?
No! The SecureSure locking bar mechanism covers the entire front
of the GemSpa®. In addition, there is a snap lock located
in the middle of the bar, which snaps in place when the lock is
fully engaged.
7. Does washing your hands clean your jewelry?
Not Even Close. Medical studies and our own hospital research
show that washing your hands has little eect on bacteria levels on
your jewelry. The dirt and grime that builds up on jewelry cannot
be removed by either soap and water or hand sanitizing gels,
which is why Jewelry Hygiene® is such a concern. In fact, soaps
and creams that we use on our hands just build up over time,
making matters worse. It has been suggested that getting your
dirty jewelry wet simply creates a moist environment that actually
accelerates bacterial growth.
8. Does the dirt and germs from my jewelry end up
on my dishes?
No. Dishwashers do an excellent job of washing and rinsing your
dishes and glasses thoroughly and the same holds true for your
jewelry. In fact, when the GemSpa® Anti-Bacterial Hydro-Gel mixes
with the cleaning soap in your dishwasher, all of the dirt and germs
are removed completely. We have tested the bacteria loads on
jewelry and dishes after washing and the results always show that
all items are sanitized.
Five Year Limited Warranty
The GemSpa® is under warranty for a full ve years from date
of purchase with registration within 60 days of purchase,
guaranteeing quality craftsmanship and operation.

The remedies available under this warranty are specically limited to
