ther,all installations shall complywithalllocallaws,
codes,regulations,andordinances.Customershall
also beprotected,duringinstallation,byinsurance
relatingtoPropertyDamage,Workman’sCom-
pensationand PublicLiability.
SEARSINSTALLATIONWARRANTY
Inadditiontoanywarrantyextendedtoyouonthe
Searsmerchandiseinvolved,whichwarrantybe-
comeseffectivethedatethemerchandiseisinstalled,

BThereverseosmosissystemworksonwaterpres-
suresof40 psi(minimum) to125 psi(maximum).If
yourhousewaterpressureisoverthemaximum,
installapressurereducingvalveinthewatersupply
pipetothereverseosmosis system.
BDonotinstall thereverseosmosis systemout-
side,orinextremehotorcoldtemperatures.Temper-
atureof thewatersupplytothereverseosmosis sys-
tem mustbebetween40_Fand100_F.Donotinstall
onhotwater.

-- WHATYOUR REVERSEOSMOSIS SYSTEMWILL DO--
YourReverseOsmosis(RO)DrinkingWaterSystem
is a watertreatmentunit.It useshouseholdwater
pressuretoreverseanaturalphysicalprocess called
osmosis.Water,underpressure,isforcedthrougha
semi-permeablemembranewhereminerals andim-
puritiesarefilteredout.Cleandrinkingwatergoesto
thefaucetorstorage,whileminerals andimpurities
aresenttothedrainwithROwastewater.Theminer-
als andimpurities aremeasuredinwateras totaldis-
solvedsolids(TDS).
Thesystemincludesreplaceablepreand postfilter
sediment-carboncartridges.Theprefilter removes
sand,silt,dirt,rustparticles,othersediments,and
chlorinefromthewatersupplybeforeitcanenterthe
ROmembrane.Thepostfilter removes anytastes
and/orodorsthatmayremaininthewater,after
passingthroughtheROmembrane,andjustbefore
goingtotheROfaucet.Toprevent waterwaste,an
automaticshutoffvalvecloseswhentheROfaucetis
closedandthestoragetankisfull.
Yourreverseosmosissystemgivesyouacontinuous
supplyofsparklingclear,deliciouswaterfordrink-
ing,cookingandotheruses.Foodswill lookand
tastebettertoo.HavinghighqualityROproductwa-
teratyourfingertipseliminatestheneedto buy
bottledwater.Thestoragetankholdsover2gallons
ofROproduct waterforyourneeds.
-- BEFOREYOUBEGINTOINSTALL THEROSYSTEM--
CheckYourWaterSupply:Thecoldwatersupplyto
theROsystem mustbewithincertainqualitylimits.
Seethespecificationtableonpage15.Ifsupplywater
isnot withinlimits,theROsystemcan notmake
product wateras itshouldandreducedROmem-
branelifewill result.
TrainedsalespeopleatSearscanarrangeforafree
wateranalysis.Theanalysiswilltell youifotherwa-
tersupplytreatmentisneededbeforegoingtothe
ROsystem.
CAUTION:Chlorineinthewaterwilldestroythe
ROmembrane.Mostcities add chlorinetothewa-
tersupplytokill bacteria.Theprefilter removes
chlorineuptothelimitsshowninthespecifications
beforeitenterstheROmembrane.It isimportant
toreplacetheprefiltercartridgeatleastevery6
months.See theROcareguideonpage14.

TheROassemblyandstoragetankisdesignedfor
installationunderthesink,usuallyinthekitchenor
bathroom.TheROassemblymountsonawall sur-
face,orcanlayonthecabinetfloornexttothestorage
tank.Hangerwashersandwoodscrewsareincluded
forcabinet wall mounting.TheROproduct water
faucetinstallsonthesink,oronthecountertopnext
tothesink(pages 6 and7).
Note:Tubinglengths allow fortheremovalof the
assemblyfromthehangerwashersforservicing.If
tubinglengths areshortenedforneaterappear-
ance,itmaybenecessarytokeeptheassemblyon
thehangerwashersforservice.
YoucanalsolocatetheROassemblyandstoragetank
inanyremotelocationfromthefaucet,observing
safety guidesonpage2.Youdoneedanearbywater
sourceand drainpoint (see page18).
WaterSupply:ToprovidesupplywatertotheRO
systeminlet,a saddlevalveisincludedtoinstall
(wherecodes permit)onacoldwaterpipe,page5.Pro-
videotherpipefittingsfortubingconnection,astypi-
callyshownonpage5,wheresaddlevalves arenot
allowed.
Drain Point:Asuitabledrainpointisneededfor re-
ject waterfromtheROmembrane.Afloordrain,
laundrytub,standpipe,sump,etc., ispreferred,as

Checkandcomplywithlocalplumbingcodesas youplan,theninstall acoldfeed(supply)waterfitting.The
fittingmustprovidealeak-tightconnectiontotheRO1/4”tubing(see FIG. 8,page8).Atypicalconnection,
usingtheincludedsaddlevalveis showninFIG.3-Abelow.Anoptionalconnection,usingstandardplumb-
ingfittings(notincluded),is showninB.
Note:CodesinthestateofMassachusettsrequireinstal-
lationbyalicensed plumber,and donotpermit theuse
ofthe saddlevalve.Forinstallation,useplumbing
code248-CMRof theCommonwealthofMassa-
chusetts.
A.SADDLE VALVE
Note:Thisvalvehas a cuttingpinandwill piercea
holeincoppertubingorplasticpipe.Ifinstallingon
ironpipe,youhavetodrilla1/8”holeforthepierc-
ingpin.Readthefollowingdangernoteandbe
suretoturnoffwatertothepipeandtodrainwater
fromitbeforedrilling.
DANGER(ifdrillingmetalpipe):Toprotectyour-
selffromseriousinjuryorfatalshock,useabattery
powered hand drill onlytomakethehole.Donot
use anelectricdrill.
1.Closethehousemainwatershutoffvalveandopen
faucetstodrainwaterfromthesinkcoldwaterpipe.
2.Observingabovenoteandcaution,drill the1/8”
diameterholeinironpipe.
3.Lookingat figure3A,turnthevalveintoclampX
andtighten(maybealreadyassembled).Turnthe
valvehandleall thewayout.
4.PlacethesealontheinsideofclampXas shown.
Besurethecuttingpindoesnotstickoutbeyondthe
seal.
5.PlaceclampXandZaroundthepipeandsecurein
placewith2 screws.If you predrilleda 1/8”hole,
alignthecuttingpinwithit.Tightenbothscrews
evenly,butdonotovertighten.ClampZwill either
havethreadedscrewholes,or2nuts areincluded.
6.Carefullyturnthehandleinwardtopierceahole
inthecopperorplasticpipe.

JNote:Runningthedraintubingdirectlytoafloor
drain,sump,standpipe,laundrytub,etc., as shown
onpage18,ispreferred.However,if thatisnotpos-
sibleorpractical,theincluded drainadapterinstalls
inthesinkdrainpipe,alwaysaboveoraheadof the
p-trap(FIG. 4).Besuretocomplywithyourlocal
plumbingcodes.Otherdrainpipefittings,inaddi-
tiontotheadapter,maybeneeded.
JThedrainadapterfits 1-1/2”sinkdrainpipe.
JTheadapterinstallsdirectlyontothesinktailpiece
as typicallyshowninFIG. 4 and5.
JLocatesodraintubingfromthefaucet(installedin
step1,page8)makes a straightruntotheadapter,
withoutdips,loops,lowspotsorkinks.
Note:Consultaplumberifyouarenot familiar
withplumbingprocedures.
1.Useaferruleandnuttoassemblethedraintubing
connectortothedrainadapter(FIG.5).Turnthecon-
nectortoabout45_ fromthe12:00position,asshown
(to10:00 or2:00 positionas needed).Tightenthenut
securely.
2.Carefullydisassemblethesinkdrainpipeand
cleanthetailpiecetoassurealeak-tight fit.
3.Install thedrainadapterontothesinktailpiece,
usingaferruleandnut.Snugthenut,butdonot
tighten.
Note:If needed,tomakefit,youcancut toshorten
theunthreadedendof theadapter.Donotcut too
shortsotheadapterwillmakealeak-tightsealwith
theconnectingfitting.
4.Assemblethep-traptothedrainadapter,andoth-
erdrainpipefittingsasrequired(checkcodes) to
completethedrainrun.
5.Tightenallconnections,butdonotovertightenand
breakplasticfittings.

A.PREPAREMOUNTING HOLE
1.Select1of thefollowingplacesforthefaucet.Be
sureit will fit flatagainst thesurface,andthereis
spaceunderneathfortubing(see FIG. 8,page8).
' Useanexistingsinktopholefora sprayhoseor
otherfaucet.A1”to1-1/4”diameterholeisneed-
ed.
'Drill anewholeinthecountertopnext tothe
sink.
'Drill anewholeinthesinktop.
CAUTION:Toavoid damagingasink beyond re-
pair,consultaqualified plumberorinstallerfor
guidestodrill holesinporcelainorstainless steel.
2.If drillingisneeded,makethe1”to1-1/4”diame-
terhole.
3.Placeplumbersputtyaroundthedrilledhole(FIG.
6) toprevent waterleakagearoundthebaseof the
faucet.

B.ASSEMBLE FAUCET
1.Ifnotalreadyassembled,installtherubberwasher,
spacer,flat (orlock) washerandhexnutontothe
threadedfaucetstud.
2.ApplyTeflontapetothe endof thefaucetstud.
Turnthetubingadapterwithabluecolletontothe
stud andhandtighten,thenwrench1/4turnonly.
BE CAREFULNOT TOCROSS THREAD.
3.Wet theo-ringsealsonthefaucetspout.Then,re-
moveand discardtheshortpieceof tubingfromthe
faucetbodyandinsert thespoutinit’splace.
4.CONNECTTUBINGTOFAUCET ASFOLLOWS.
a.Taketheseparatelengthof3/8”blacktubing
and,puttingendthroughthelargerholeintherub-
berwasher,slideendontothelargerbarbfittingon
thebottomof thefaucet.
Note:Tosoftenendoftubing,holdunderhotwater.
b.Route1/4”redtubingfromROup throughthe
sinkholeandslideendontothesmallerbarbfitting
(heatendifneeded)onthefaucet.
c.Route3/8”bluetubingfromROup throughthe
sinkholeand pushendall thewayintothetubing
adapterfittingonthebottomof thefaucet.Pull on
thetubingto besureit’sheldfirmlyintheadapter
fitting.See pages 12 and13 fortubingconnection
instructions.
5.Lowerthefaucetintothesinkorcountertophole.
6.Ontheundersideof thesinkorcountertop,insert
thelargesteelwasherbetweenthemountinghole
andthespaceronthefaucetstud (see assembled
view).Then,turnthehexnutup tothespacerand
tighten.Tightenthehex nutsothefaucetcan not
move,butdonotovertightenand breakthefaucet.
-- STEP4: INSTALL RO
ASSEMBLY--
Hangtheassemblyontheincludedhangerwashers,
orlayonthecabinet floor,as desired.
1.RefertoFIG.7forwallmounting.Holdtheassem-
blyup tothewall surfaceandmarklocationsforthe
hangerwashers.Indicatormarksontopofthebrack-
etaretheneeded10-1/2”apart.
2.Installhangerwashersatleast15-1/2”upfromthe
cabinet floor,allowingroomtoremovesumpsfrom
filterheads.Woodscrews areprovided,orobtain
otherfastenersasneeded.

1.CONNECTDRAIN TUBING, FAUCET TO
DRAINADAPTER:ReferringtoFIG.8,runtheloose
section(connectedtofaucetbarbfitting)ofblack
3/8”tubingfromthefaucettothedrainadapter,with
ablackcollet,installedonpage6.Cut thistubingas
neededtorouteinas straightofarun aspossible,
withoutloops,dips,lowspotsorkinks.Cut theend
of thetubingsquare.Then,pushall thewayintothe
fitting.Pull onthetubingto besureit’sheldfirmly
intheadapterfitting.See pages 12 and13 fortubing
connectioninstructions.
2.CONNECTTUBINGTOWATERSUPPLY:Usethe
tubinginsert,ferruleandnuttofastenthe1/4”green
tubingtothesaddlevalvefittinginstalledonpage5.
Tightenthenut withawrench.
3.MovethestoragetankintoplacenexttotheROas-
sembly.Youcanstandthetankupright,orlayiton
side.Applynomorethan2wrapsofTeflontapeto
thethreadsonthenippleatthetopofthetank.Hand
tighten,thenwrench1/4turnonly,theotherin-
cludedtubingadapterfittingwiththeyellowcollet
ontothetanknipple.BECAREFULNOT TOCROSS
THREAD.
4.Runthe3/8”yellowtubingtothefittinginstalled
instep3.Besurethe endof thetubingiscutsquare,
andinsertall thewayintothefitting.Again,pull on
thetubingto besureit’sheldfirmlyinthefitting.

-- STEP6:SANITIZING,PRESSURETESTING&PURGING--
SANITIZING
Sanitizingisrecommended uponinstallationof the
ROsystem,andafterservicinginnerparts.It isim-
portantfortheservicepersontohaveclean hands
whilehandlinginnerpartsofthesystem.
CAUTION:BesuretoremovetheROmembrane
andbothfiltercartridges as follows,beforesanitiz-
ing.Chlorinewill destroy theRO membrane car-
tridge.
1.BesurethewatersupplytotheRO isturnedoff,
andtheROfaucet isopentorelievepressure.
2.ReferringtoFIG. 9,page11,press inwardwhile
turningtheROcaptotheleft(?) toremovefromthe
bracket/membranehousing.Remove(usepliers)
theROcartridgefromthehousing.Placethecar-
tridgeinacleanplasticbag.
3.Besuretheo-ringsealisintheROcap.Replacethe
ROcapand pushinwardwhileturningtotheright
(?) tolock.
4.Removethepostfiltersump,turningtotheleft.
Takethecartridgefromthesumpand placeinthe
plasticbag.Replacethesumpandtightensecurely.
5.Removetheprefiltersumpandcartridge.Also
placethiscartridgeinthecleanbag.
6.If neededtoclean,flushtheprefiltersumpwith
freshwater.Then,fillwithwatertoabout1”fromthe
top.Add 1.0ounceofchlorine(ordinary5.25%
householdbleach...Hilex,Clorox,etc.)andmixinthe
water.Donotadd chlorinefirst.Concentrated,it
will attackplastics.
7.Carefullyreplacethesumpontheprefilterhead
andtightensecurely.
8.SlowlyopenthewatersupplytotheRO.
9.OpentheROfaucet,lockingtheleverupward,
against thespout.
10.Allow watertocirculatethroughtheROsystem
untilyousmellthebleachodor.Thenclosethefaucet
andallow theROtostandidlefor20 minutes.
11.Afterthe20minutes,opentheROfaucetandrun
wateruntil thebleachodorisgone.
12.Turnoff thewatersupplytotheRO.
13.Be sureyourhandsare clean.Then,repeatsteps
1-5 and7,onlyreplace all cartridges.
Important:RefertoFIG. 9,page11,andtopage12
whenreplacingcartridges.Theprefilter(left side)
cartridgehas lightgraycoloring,andthepostfilter
(rightside)has bluecoloring.
PRESSURETESTING
1.Dotheprecedingsanitizingproceduresbefore
pressuretesting.
2.Openthewatersupplyshutoff valvetotheRO.
3.Openthemainwatersupply valveandseveral
housefaucetstopurgeairfromthesystem.Close
faucetswhenwater runs smooth.
4.Inabout2 hours,pressurewill start to buildinthe
ROsystem.Then,carefullycheckallfittingsandcon-
nectionsforwaterleaks.Correctleaksifanyare
found.
Note:Whenthesystemisfirstpressurized,water
may‘‘spurt’’fromthefaucetairgapholeuntil airis
expelledfromtheROsystem.
PURGING ROMEMBRANE
Importantpurginginstructions:TheROcartridge
contains a food gradepreservativethatyoushould
cleanfromitbeforeusingwaterfromthesystem.The
preservativewill giveproduct wateranunpleasant
tasteandodor.
1.Allow thestoragetanktofill forabout4hours.
Then,opentheROfaucetuntilthetankisemptyand
flowstops.
2.ClosetheROfaucetandallowthetanktofillagain
for4hours.Then,opentheROfaucetandempty
again.
Repeatsteps1and2topurgethestoragetank4times.Then,theROsystemisreadyto
makeproduct waterforuse.

PREFILTER
Waterfromthecoldsupplypipe enterstheROas-
semblyprefilterfirst (FIG. 8 andschematicbelow).
Theprefilterhas a replaceablesedimentcartridge
withactivatedcarboninitscomposition.Thecar-
tridge(10micron)removessand,silt,dirt,othersedi-
ments,anduptotheppmofchlorineshowninthe
specificationsfromthefeedwater.Chlorinewillde-

REVERSE OSMOSIS(RO) CARTRIDGE
Thecartridgeinsideof theROhousing,is a tightly
wound,specialmembrane.Waterisforcedthrough
thecartridgeandthemembraneremovesthedis-
solvedsolids andorganicmatter.Highqualityprod-
uct water(about1ounceper minute)exitstheRO
housingandgoestothestoragetank,ortothepost-
filterandROfaucet.Reject water,withthedissolved
solids andorganicmatter,isroutedthroughtheflow
controlandtothedrain.
STORAGETANK
Thestoragetankholdsup to2.3gallonsofproduct
water.Adiaphragminsidethetank keepswater
pressurizedtoabout30 psi,whenthetankisfull,to
providefastflowfromtheROfaucet.Thetank,when
empty,ispressurizedto5-7psi.
POSTFILTER
Afterleavingthestoragetank,butbeforegoingtothe
ROfaucet,productwatergoesthroughthepostfilter.
Thepostfilteris anactivatedcarbontypefilter.Any
remainingtastes andodors areremovedfromthe
product water.Taste-free,odor-free,clean,high
qualitydrinkingwateris availableforuse.
FAUCET
Thesinkorcountertopfaucethas a handoperated,
spring-loadedclosedlevertoprevent thewasteof
drinkingwater.Youcanalsokeepthefaucetopenby
pushingupwardontheleverandlockingitagainst
thefaucetspout.
Tocomplywithplumbingcodes,anair-gapisbuilt
intothefaucetdrainwaterconnection.
SHUTOFF ASSEMBLY
Toconservewater,thedrinkingwatersystemhas an
automaticshutoffsystem.Whenthestoragetankhas
filledtocapacity,andthedrinkingwaterfaucetis
closed,pressureclosestheshutoff tostopflowinto
theRO.Pressureinthestoragetankis abouthalfof
thewatersupplypressure.Afterdrinkingwateris
used,and pressureinthesystemdrops,theshutoff
openstoallow waterflowagain.
CHECK VALVE
Acheck valve(FIG. 10)islocatedintheoutletendof
theROhousing,oppositeofthecap.Thecheckvalve
prevents a backwardflowofproduct waterfromthe
storagetank.AbackwardflowcouldrupturetheRO
membrane.
FLOWCONTROL
Waterflow throughtheROmembraneisregulated
bytheflowcontrol.Itmaintainsthedesiredflowrate
to obtainthehighestqualitydrinkingwater.The
flowcontrolislocatedintheendofthe1/4”reddrain
tubing,at theROhousingdrainport.Asmall cone-
shapedscreenfitsoverthe endof theflowcontrolto
help preventpluggingwithdrainwatersediments.

Tokeepyour reverseosmosis systemoperatingand
makinghighqualitywater,youmustmakesuresup-
plywateris alwayswithinthelimits showninthe
specifications. Goodsupplywaterhelpstoassure
longerlifefromtheROmembranecartridge,prefilter
andpostfiltercartridges.However,eachofthesewill
wearoutintimeandneedreplacement.
Thisreverseosmosis systemcontainsareplaceable
treatmentcomponentcriticalforeffectiveremovalof
totaldissolvedsolids.Thewatershouldbetested
periodicallytoverifythesystemisperformingsatis-
factorily.
IftheROassemblyiswallmounted,youmaybeable
toreplacepartswiththeassemblyleft onthewall.If
not,simplylift theROassemblyfromthemounting
washers andlayonthecabinet floorwhenreplacing
theprefilterand post filtercartridges andROmem-
brane.
Note:Topreventspillage,placeacontainerunder
theROassembly,orput theROassemblyinacon-
tainertocatchthewater.
CAUTION:Beforedisconnectingparts,besureto
closethewatersupply valvetotheRO.
PREFILTERAND POSTFILTER
CARTRIDGES
You must replace theprefiltercartridgeoftentopro-
tect theRO membranefrombeing destroyedby chlorine,
and/orfrompluggingwithsedimentsinyourwater
supply.If thewatersupplycontainsbothchlorine
andsediments,replacetheprefiltercartridgeatleast
every6monthsofproduct wateruse.Replacemore
oftenthan6monthsifitbeginstoplugwithsedi-
ments.
Ifthewaterhassedimentsonly,withnochlorine,you
maynoticea slower makingofproduct wateras the
prefiltercollectsthesediments.Whenthisoccurs,re-
placetheprefiltercartridge.Alsoreplacethepostfilter
cartridge.
Toreplacethefiltercartridges(see FIG.9):
1.TurnoffthewatersupplyandopentheROfaucet
torelievepressure.
2.Remove(turntotheleft)bothsumpsfromthefilter
heads.Becareful...thesumps arefull of water.
3.Removeanddiscardtheinnercartridgesinaprop-
er manner.Flushtheinsidesof thesumpswithfresh
water.Donot losethelargeo-ringseals.
4.Insertnewcartridges,andwithlubricated*o-rings
inplace,turnonandtightenthesumps.
Note:Theprefiltercartridgehas lightgraynetting
andendcaps.Thepostfilterhas blue.Donotinter-
change.

ductionrateand/orqualityofproduct waterdrops.
Productwatermaybegintotastedifferentorbad,in-
dicatingsolids andorganics arepassingthroughthe
ROmembrane.To besureitistheROcartridge,re-
placetheprefilterand postfiltercartridgesfirst.
ToreplacetheROcartridge(see FIG.9):
1.TurnoffthewatersupplyandopentheROfaucet

FLOWCONTROLAND SCREEN
Theflowcontrol isvitalforproperoperationof the
ROmembranecartridge.Thecontrolkeepswater
flowthroughthemembraneattheneededratetoob-
tainthebestqualityproduct water.
WheneverservicingtheROsystem,checktheflow
controlto besurethesmall holethroughitisclean
andunrestricted.Alsocheckandcleanorreplacethe
cone-shapedscreeninfrontof thecontrol.TheRO
membranecannotdischargeminerals andimpuri-
tiestothedrainiftheflowcontrolplugswithforeign
material.Ifthishappens,itonlytakes ashorttimefor
themembranetofoulandbecomeuseless.
Toclean/replaceflowcontroland screen(FIG.10):
1.At thedrainconnection,depress thecollet (FIG.
11) withafingerwhilecarefullypullingonthedrain
tubingtoremove.
2.Removetheflowcontrolfromthe endof thedrain
tubing.Besurethecenterholeisclean.
3.Checkthedraintubingto besureit’sclean.Then,
insertthecleanedornewflowcontrolintothetubing.
4.Withasmallscrewdriver,carefullyremovethecol-
letando-ringfromthedrainport.Usea small need-
le-nosepliersortweezerstoremovethescreenfrom
thedrainport.Thoroughlyclean,or replacewitha
newscreen.Install,pointedend down.
Note:Visuallycheckto besureitispositionedcor-
rectly.
5.Inspect theo-ringandcollet.Replaceif worn,cut
orotherwisedamaged.Carefullyreplaceintothe
drainport.
