operating features of your new amplifier. You will notice that
in every detail of planing, engineering, styling, operating
convenience, and adaptability, we have sought to anticipate

how to set up your amplifier to the best advantage will
enhance your listening pleasure right from the start. You will
also become aware of the ease with which you can adjust
your amplifier to meet your special requirements.

FOR YOUR RECORDS
Record the serial number, found on the back of the unit, in
the spaces designated on the warranty card, and in the space
provided below. Refer to the model and serial numbers
whenever you call upon your Kenwood dealer for information
of service on this product.

UNPACKING
Unpack the unit carefully and make sure that all
accessories and cables are put aside so they will not be lost.
Examine the unit for any possibility of shipping damage. If
your unit is damaged or fails 10 operate, notify your dealer
immediately. If your unit was shipped to you directly, notify
the shipping company without delay. Only the consignee (the
person or company receiving the unit) can file a claim against
the carrier for shipping damage.
We recommend that you retain the original carton and
packing materials for use should you transport or ship the unit
in the future.
INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
(a) Avoid locations subject to direct sunlight.
(b) Avoid high or low temperature extremes
{c) Keep the unit away frorn heat radiating sources.
(d) Choose a focation that is relatively free of vibration or
excessive dust.
(e) Make sure power is off before making any system con-
nections.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
CLEANING
Do not use volatile solvents such as alcohol, paint thinner,
gasoline, benzine, ete. to clean the cabinet. Use a silicone
cloth or a clean dry cloth
SERVICE OR MODIFICATIONS
Do not remove the cabinet or touch internal parts. Refer all
service to qualified service personne. Unauthorized modifica-
tions can result in a dangerous shock hazard and can void the
warranty.
POWER CORD
Always insert or remove the power plug from the AC outlet
by grasping the plug body. Never pull or stretch the cord.
Take care that the cord is not subject to traffic or bent sharply
around furniture. Keep heavy objects off the cord; never route
it under rugs, and avoid the use of extra extension cords. At-
tention to these precautions will avoid fire or shock hazards.
IMPORTANT!
U.S.A. AND CANADA
Units shipped to the U.S.A, and Canada are design-
ed for operation on 120 volts AC only. These units are
not equipped with an AC Voltage Selector switch and
the discussion of such a switch that follows should be
disregarded.
ALL OTHER COUNTRIES
Units shipped to countries other than the U.S.A. and
Canada are equipped with an AC Voltage Selector
switch on the rear panel
Refer to the following paragraph for the proper set-
ting of this switch
AC VOLTAGE SELECTION
This unit operates on 110-120 volts or 220-240 volts
AC. The AC Voltage Selector Switch on the rear panel is set to
the voltage that prevails in the area to which the unit is ship-
ped. Before connecting the power cord to your AC outlet,
make sure that the setting position of this switch matches
your line voltage. If not, it must be set to your voltage in
accordance with the following direction.

Our warranty does not cover damage caused by excessive line
voltage due to improper setting of the AC Voltage Selector Switch.

CONTROLS AND INDICATORS
@ POWER switch
Depress the power switch and the lamp at the center of the
reverberation indicator @ will fight, indicating that the power
is ON. To turn off the power, depress the switch again
@ TAPE monitor switch
ON: To playback a tape deck connected to the amplifier or
to monitor the sound being recorded
OFF; To listen to other program sources (FM/AM, turn-
table, microphone, etc.) connected to the arnplifier.
@ > REVERBERATION switch
This switch turns the reverberation unit ON and OFF.
@ REVERBERATION REC switch
To’ add the reverberation effect on to tape, set both the
reverberation recording switch and reverberation switch @
to ON
If only the reverberation switch @ is ON, the tape is recorded
without the reverberation effect but the sound being played is
heard with the reverberation effect
@ EFFECT switch
To obtain a normal reverberation effect, set this switch to the
"1" position (OUT}. To obtain a duet effect, set the switch to
je ‘'2"’ position {IN}.

@ ATTENUATOR switch
This switch is used to reduce the input level to 1/2,
eliminating any possibility of distortion due to high input
signals.
@ Reverberation time control {REVERB TIME}
Adjusts the reverberation time. With the effect switch in the
“'4*" position, the reverberation time is adjustable from O to
2.5 sec., and in the ‘'2" position, frorm 30 to 100 msec.
@ DEPTH contro!
Adjusts the amount of reverberation. Turning the control
clockwise will emphasize the reverberation

This is used to visually check the reverberation effect. The
lights of the indicator lamps will spread to left and right accor-
ding to the strength ot reverberation

CONNECTIONS AND PRECAUTIONS

Each connecting cord must be connected securely to the
corresponding terminals (R to R and L to L). Poor connec-
tion can result in production of noise.
Before connecting or disconnecting any cord, be sure to
turn off the power switches of the RA-90 and pre-main
amplifier
Do not bind the input/output cords together with the
power cord and speaker cord, Do not extend the input/oul-
put cords unnecessarily to avoid the possibility of produc-
ing noise or deterioration of tonal quality

OPERATING PROCEDURE
1. Depress the power switch @ to turn on the power.
2. Set the pre-main amplifier TAPE MONITOR switch to TAPE
or ON.
3. For playback of tape, set the RA-90 TAPE monitor switch
@ to ON. For listening to other program sources, set the
switch to OFF.
4. Set the reverberation switch @ to ON.
5. Set the effect switch @ to the desired position
6. Adjust the reverberation time contro! @ and depth control
{8} as required
After setting the above switches and controls, if you desire
to add the reverberation effect on to tape, set the
reverberation recording switch @ to ON. To eliminate the
reverberation effect during recording, simply set the
reverberation recording switch to OFF.

IN CASE OF DIFFICULTY
If your unit should not perform as expected, consult the table below to see if the problem can be corrected before seeking help
from your Kenwood dealer or service representatives.

DEBALLAGE
Débaliez l'appareil en prenant les précautions nécessaires
et assurez-vous que les cables et les accessoires sont bien
mis de cété pour une utilisation ultérieure.

s‘il ne fonctionne pas, avisez votre revendeur. Si l'appareil
vous a été expédié directernent, notifiez-le & la compagnie de

CONSEILS D’INSTALLATION
(a) Evitez un emplacement soumis a la lumiére directe du
soleil.
(b} Evitez les ternpératures extr&mes, hautes ou basses.
{c) Eloignez l'appareil de sources dégageant de la chaleur
(d) Choisissez un endroit sans vibration ni poussiére.
(e) Assurez-vous que l'appareil est arrété avant d'effectuer
les branchements.

NETTOYAGE
Ne pas utiliser de solvants volatils cornme |’alcool, le
dijuant & peinture, I’essence, la benzine etc... pour le
nettoyage du bottier. Utiliser un chiffon aux silicones ou un
chiffon sec
INTERVENTIONS OU MODIFICATIONS
Ne pas enlever le capot et ne pas toucher a I’intérieur de
l'appareil. Faites effectuer toutes les interventions par un
technicien qualifié. Des modifications non agréées par le
constructeur peuvent entrainer un danger d’électrocution et
risquent d’annuler la garantie
CORDON D‘ALIMENTATION
Manipulez toujours le cordon secteur par la prise; ne tirez
jamais directement sur le fil. Assurez-vous que le cordon n’est
pas sur un lieu de passage et qu'il n’est pas exagérément plié.
Ne posez pas d’objets lourds sur le fil, ne le dissimulez pas
sous un tapis et évitez d’utiliser de trop nombreux protonga-
teurs. En suivant ces précautions, vous limiterez les risques
d’incendie et les risques de choc électrique.

sont congus pour fonctionner uniquement sur 1 20 Vv.

Les appareils expédiés vers les autres pays dispo-
sent d'un commutateur de tension situé sur la face
arriére. Reportez-vous au paragraphe suivant pour le ré-
glage de ce commutateur.
REGLAGE DE LA TENSION SECTEUR
Cet appareil fonctionne sur 110-120 V ou 220-240 V.
Le commutateur de tension est régié en usine sur la tension la
plus répandue dans le pays de destination de l'appareil. Avant
de brancher le cable secteur, assurez-vous que la position du
commutateur correspond 4 la tension du secteur. Dans le cas
contraire, procéder au réglage de la maniére suivante:

Notre garantie ne couvre pas les détériorations provoquées par une

Appuyez sur le bouton POWER pour que le témoin lumineux
s‘allume au centre de l'indicateur de réverbération @. Ce té-
moin indique que |‘arnplificateur de réverbération est en fone-
tionnement. Pour arréter t’appareil, re-appuyez 2 nouveau
@ Interrupteur Tape
ON: — Pour la lecture du magnétophone raccordé 4 |’amplifi-
cateur ou pour contréler le son en cours d’enregistre-
ment.
OFF: Pour écouter Jes sources de programmes (FM/AM, pla-
tine, microphone, etc...) raccordees a |'amplificateur.
® Interrupteur de Réverbération
Pour des effets de réverbération, mettez cet interrupteur sur la
position ON, ou pour arréter la réverbération, mettez+e sur la
position OFF.
@ interrupteur d’Enregistrement en Réverbération
Pour ajouter un effet de réverbération sur fa bande, mettez
linterrupteur de réverbération sur la position ON.
S'il n'y a que l'interrupteur de réverbération mis sur la posi-
tion ON, la bande sera enregisirée sans effet de réverbération,
pendant que le son en cours de lecture est entendu, lui, avec
effet de réverbération.

Pour obtenir des effets normaux de réverbération, mettez cet
interrupteur sur ta position ‘*1‘’ (QUT). Pour obtenir des effets
duo, mettez cet interrupteur sur fa position 2°" (IN)

Cet interrupteur sert 4 réduire le niveau d’entrée de 1/2 tout
en éliminant les possibilités de distorsions dues aux signaux
de haute entrée.
@ Contréle du Temps de Réverbération
il sert a régler le temps de réverbération. Avec |'interrupteur
d’effet mis sur Ia position '’1'’, le temps de réverbération est
réglable de O & 2.5 sec., et sur la position "2’' de 30 4
100 msec

ll sert & régier la quantité de réverbération. Tournez-ie dans le
sens des aiguilles d'une montre pour augmenter ta profon-
deur de réverbération.

Il sert & indiquer visuellement I'effet de réverbération. La
bande lumineuse s’allonge vers ta droite ou vers la gauche
suivant la puissance de réverbération.

4. Chaque cable de haut-parleurs doit étre raccordé & sa
borne correspondante (R 4 R et L aL}. Un mauvais raccor-
dement causerait des nuisances au son.
2. Avant de raccorder ou de débrancher un cable, assurez-
vous au préalablement que les interrupteurs de puissance
du RA-90 et du préamplificateur principal sont sur fa posi-
tion: OFF.
3. Ne torsadez pas ensemble les cables entrée/sortie avec le
cordon d’alimentation et les cables des haut-parleurs. Ne
rallongez pas inutilement les cables entrée/sortie, vous évi-
terez certains bruits et une detérioration de la qualité du
son

Appuyez sur Uinterrupteur général @ pour alimenter
l'appareil.
.Mettez le commutateur TAPE MONITOR du pré-
amplificateur principal sur la position TAPE ou ON
Pour écouter une bande, mettez l'interrupteur TAPE @ du
RA-80 sur la position ON. Pour écouter d’autres sources
de programmes, mettez cet interrupteur sur la position
OFF.
Mettez I‘interrupteur de réverbération @ sur ja position
ON.
. Mettez interrupteur d’effet @ sur !a position désirée.
. Mettez le bouton de contréle du temps de réverbération @
et l'interrupteur de profondeur @ sur la position désirée.
. Aprés avoir réglé les interrupteurs, si vous désirez ajouter
un effet de réverbération sur la bande, mettez !’interrup-
teur d’enregistrement en réverbération @ sur fa position
ON. Pour arréter cet effet pendant |'enregistrement,
remettez-le sur la position OFF.
