voltage that prevails in the area to which the unit is shipped.
Before connecting the power cord to your AC outlet, make sure
that the setting position of this switch matches your line voltage.
If not, it must be set to your voltage in accordance with the fol-

Unpack the unit carefully and make sure that all accessories are put aside so they will not be lost. Examine the unit for any possibility of
shipping damage. If your unit is damaged or fails to operate, notify your dealer immediately. If your unit was shipped to you directly, notify
the shipping company without delay. Only the consignee (the person or company receiving the unit) can file a claim against the carrier for
shipping damage. We recommend that you retain the original carton and packing materials for use should you transport or ship the unit in the
future.

sion) system produces a three dimensional sound stage fram
normal steree signals. It greatly improves the perceived width
and depth of the sound stage, as well as sound imaging, while

We've also included 2 sets of speaker terminals so you can
connect twe different sounding speaker systems, or use two sets
of speakers at once (only when both sets of speakers have an

of a cassette deck, graphic equalizer, surround processar, etc.
Wen a 3-head cassette deck is connected to the TAPE 2 (fMONI-
TOR) jacks, it is possible to monitor the sound which has just
been recorded during recording. (13)
Remote controllable audio function. By connecting KENWOOD source components such as a cassette
deck and CD player through system control connection, the basic
operations of these components can be controlled from the
remote contra{ unit provided with this unit. A single remote

Connecting system control cords after connecting a KENWOOD audio component system lets you take advantage of convenient
system control operations.
There are two KENWOOD system contro! modes. Make connections according to the groups of terminal symbols shown below,
(X$B8) Mode: lets you combine (XQ), XS), and (X88) terminals
GLIB) Mode: for (LTB) terminals only
This unit is compatible with both [XS8] and [SL16] modes. It comes from the factory set to the [XS8] mode. To switch to the [SL16]
mode, follow the instructions in “SWITCHING FROM [XS$8] TO [SL16]” below.

ABOUT THE SYSTEM CONTROL OPERATIONS
Remote Control (Except [SL16]) E
Lets you operate source components with the system re- —
mote supplied with this unit. E
SWITCHING FROM [XS8] TO [SL16]
You can easily change the system control mode with the
following operation. Do this operation after completing all
connections.
Automatic Operation (Except [XR] equipment)
When you start playback from a source component, the in-
put selector on this unit switches to that component auto-
matically. (Except TAPE 2)
Switching to ([SL16]: Hold down the AUTO/MANUAL ES
key and switch the MAIN POWER >
key from OFF to ON.
Switching back to [X$8]: Hold down the BAND key and &
switch the MAIN POWER key §
from OFF to ON.
Synchronized Recording (Except [XR] equipment) :
Lets you synchronize recording with the start of playback £
when recording from CD, MD, LD, or analog discs.
@ This operation will not affect items stored in the memery.
The system cortro! mode will revert to [XS8] if the §
unit is not turned on for three consecutive days. If &

The supplied antenna is for indoor use. Place it as far as possible
from the main system, TV set, speaker cords and power cord, and
set it to a direction which provides the best reception,

The accessory antenna is for temporary indoor use enly. For stable
signal reception we recommend using an outdoor anienna. Remove
the indoor antenna if you connect one outdoors.

The FM DE-EMPHASIS / CHANNEL SPACE switch on the rear panel
is Set to the correct setting that prevails in the area to which the
unit is shipped. However, if the FM DE-EMPHASIS / CHANNEL
SPACE setting is not matched to the aréa where the unit is to be
used; for instance, when you moved from area 1 to area 2 or vice
versa, desired reception of AM / FM broadcasts is not expected. In
this case, change the FM DE-EMPHASIS / CHANNEL SPACE set-
ting in accordance with the area corresponding to the table. The FM
DE-EMPHASIS is switched_over at the same time.
e When changing the setting of the FM DE-EMPHASIS / CHANNEL
SPACE switch, first disconnect the power cord of the amplifier,
then reset the channel space switch, connect the power cord
again, and turn the power on.
AM outdoor antenna connection
If the reception is poor when the AM loop antenna is used, distrib-
ute a vinyl-coated wire of more than 6 meters outdoors, without
disconnecting the loop antenna.

About the STANDBY jniligator
This unit has a STANDBY indicator, When the STANDBY indicator is Jit, the unit consumes a small amount of power to preserve the memory.
This is called STANDBY mode. This mode also lets you turn the power ON/OFF using the remote control.

The remote control unit provided with the receiver can also contro! KENWOOD cassette decks, and CD player connected to the -
receiver through system control cords. For details of the controllable functions, refer to the instruction manuals of these
components.

When the STANDBY indicator is lit, the power turns ON when
you press the POWER key on the remote. When the power :

essary to change the VIDEO or TAPE 1 input to LD or MD
input using the following procedure.
@ Select the input name to be changed.
@ Press and hold the AUTO/MANUAL key for more than 2
seconds.
4 Play the selected source. .
