Meet the “Key” People at Key Digital Systems
Michael Lakhter, VP of Sales
Michael Lakhter, Key Digital’s Vice President
of Sales, is the guy that takes ideas and helps
make them a reality.
As a key member of Key Digital’s management
team, and possibly the most visible, Michael
tours the globe on behalf of the company.
In the past year alone, Michael has set up
distribution in Europe and Asia for Key Digital
products. These travels, along with his visits
to many of the US markets, keep Michael on
the go.
Michael’s contributions to Key Digital are far
greater than just selling products. He is the
driving force in bringing creative ideas for new
products to the engineers. Michael is a great
listener, and when someone asks if Key Digital can come out with a product that
does something differently, Michael’s first response is positive. “Why not?”, he usually
comments.
He then meets with Mike Tsinberg, President and head
technologist, to explore the possibilities.
All of these new ideas give Michael the opportunity of naming new
product categories. From Fat Boy and FatCAT to Python and Red
Iguana, Michael keeps the creative juices flowing in describing
products with names that his dealers can remember.
Besides Michael’s travels, daughters, wife Masha and Key Digital’s
sales, he loves chess, poker, fast cars, and soccer.

The FatCATs are here. Key Digital’s answer to sending analog
video and analog or digital audio through CAT5 cables arrives
with the introduction of the FatCAT series.
What makes the FatCats better? It is a more advanced design
compared to standard baluns. Coaxial cable that is traditionally
used for sending analog video does a great job but it is
expensive and cumbersome. One of coax’s big advantages is
the shielded ground which helps to prevent noise from interfering
with the video signal.
Since the wiring used in CAT5 is twisted pairs, it does not offer
the same shielded performance as coaxial cable.
By designing adjustable ground settings into the FatCAT balun
transmitters and receivers, Key Digital offers superior noise
rejection and ground isolation which makes the FatCATs ideal
for sending video and audio over CAT5. These special ground
adjustments are easily set via DIP switches and allow for the
best possible performance to be transmitted through CAT5/6
STP or UTP wiring. By setting these switches, it is easy to see
the difference and customers will appreciate the terrific signal
performance.
New Products Showcase
Each Key Digital FatCAT device in this line can be used as either
a transmitting or receiving unit and are passive so they require no
additional power supply.
The FatCATs can also be used to send analog audio or PCM
audio along with your analog video signal. Mulitple FatCats can
be used to distribute any combination of audio and video signals
throughout a location
“The new series of FatCAT baluns gives every installer the
opportunity to run video and audio signals at low cost
throughout their customers’ homes and businesses” says
Michael Lakhter, Vice President of Sales for Key Digital.
“By solving the possible performance related problems
of twisted pair wiring, Key Digital continues to give its
customers the best possible solutions for each and every
installation. The quality of our products are once again
demonstrated here in the FatCAT series.”

Dear Key Digital...
Q: Dear Key Digital
What is ATSC? I see this used on HDTV tuners.
Susan. Seattle, WA
A: Dear Susan,
Formed in 1982, ATSC is short for the Advanced Television
Systems Committee. The ATSC develops voluntary standards for
digital television. Like the NTSC, which developed the standards
for the broadcast and reproduction of analog broadcasts, the
ATSC has developed the standards that have been widely
accepted for digital television. These standards are not only for
HDTV, but also for SDTV.
When you see ATSC tuner on a display or set top box, it means
that the tuner can receive digital terrestrial broadcasts. If the
tuner says NTSC, if is designed to receive only analog terrestrial
TV broadcast signals.
More information can be obtained on the web site
www.atsc.org
