Note: Many times throughout this User Guide, we will refer to
Carbon Monoxide as “CO”.
This Kidd carbon monoxid (CO) alarm is an important part of your
family’s hom saf ty plan. This alarm has b n d sign d and t st d to
d t ct CO buildup in a r sid ntial nvironm nt. Your alarm is for us
sp cifically in th hom . As an own r of a CO alarm, th r ar som
basic facts you should know about for your prot ction.
Many p opl think that CO alarms op rat lik smok alarms. Lik
smok alarms, CO alarms monitor th air in your hom and sound a
loud alarm to warn you of troubl . Th way you r spond to a CO alarm
is quit diff r nt than a smok alarm. That’s b caus a hous fir and a
CO probl m ar two distinctly diff r nt situations. If your smok alarm
w r to alarm, you would quickly b abl to judg th l v l of dang r
you w r in with your s ns s. You can s and sm ll th smok , f l th
h at, s , and possibly h ar th fir burning. You can also r adily s if
your smok alarm is alarming in a non- m rg ncy situation. B caus
your s ns of sight, sm ll, h aring and touch giv you information, you
can almost instantly judg what action to tak if you h ar your smok
alarm.
CO is an invisibl , odorl ss, tast l ss and non-irritating gas – compl t ly
und t ctabl to your s ns s. That’s why it is important to your saf ty
that you hav a CO alarm.
Important Warning Statements
IMPORTANT: This carbon monoxide alarm is designed to detect
carbon monoxide from ANY source of combustion. It is NOT
designed to detect smoke, fire, or any other gas.
WARNING: Carbon monoxide alarms are not smoke alarms.
This carbon monoxide alarm is not a substitute for installing and
maintaining an appropriate number of smoke alarms in your
home.
This carbon monoxide alarm will not sense smoke, fire, or any
poisonous gas other than carbon monoxide even though carbon
monoxide can be generated by fire. For this reason you must
install smoke alarms to provide early warning of fire and to pro-
tect you and your family from fire and its related hazards.
CAUTION: This alarm will only indicate the presence of carbon
monoxide at the sensor. Carbon monoxide may be present in
other areas.

Important Warning Statements
WARNING: This product is intended for use in ordinary
indoor locations of family living units. It is not designed to meas-
ure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA), commercial or industrial standards. It is
not suitable for installation in hazardous locations as defined in
the National Electric Code.
The installation of this device should not be used as a substitute
for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel burning
appliances, including appropriate ventilation and exhaust sys-
tems. It does not prevent CO from occurring, nor can it solve an
existing CO problem.
WARNING: This device is designed to protect individuals from
acute effects of carbon monoxide exposure. It may not fully safe-
guard individuals with specific medical conditions. If in doubt,
consult a medical practitioner.
Individuals with medical problems may consider using warning
devices which provide audible and visual signals for carbon
monoxide concentrations under 30 PPM.
This carbon monoxide alarm requires a continuous supply of elec-
trical power it will not work without power. Models without
battery backup will not operate during power failure.
This alarm has not been independently investigated for carbon
monoxide detection below 70 PPM.

Symptoms of CO Poisonin

Possible Sources of Carbon Monoxide

propan , natural gas, oil and wood. It can b produc d by any fu l-
burning applianc that is malfunctioning, improp rly install d, or not
v ntilat d corr ctly, such as:
• Automobil s, furnac s, gas rang s/stov s, gas cloth s dry rs, wat r
h at rs, portabl fu l burning spac h at rs and g n rators,

Conditions That Can Produce Carbon Monoxide

by outdoor ambi nt conditions, such as, wind dir ction and/or v loci-
ty, including high gusts of wind, h avy air in th v nt pip s
(cold/humid air with xt nd d p riods b tw n cycl s).

• Simultan ous op ration of s v ral fu l-burning applianc s comp ting
for limit d int rnal air.
• V nt pip conn ctions vibrating loos from cloth s dry rs, furnac s, or
wat r h at rs.
• Obstructions in, or unconv ntional, v nt pip d signs which can
amplify th abov situations.
• Ext nd d op ration of unv nt d fu l-burning d vic s (rang , ov n,

Information About Carbon Monoxide Alarms –
What They Can and Cannot Do:
CO alarms provid arly warning of th pr s nc of CO, usually b for a
h althy adult would xp ri nc symptoms. This arly warning is possibl ,
how v r, only if your CO alarm is locat d, install d and maintain d as
d scrib d in this guid .
B caus carbon monoxid is a cumulativ poison, long-t rm xposur s
to low l v ls may caus symptoms, as w ll as short-t rm xposur s to
high l v ls. This Kidd unit has a tim -w ight d alarm – th high r th
l v l of CO pr s nt, th soon r th alarm will b trigg r d.
This CO alarm can only warn you of th pr s nc of CO. It do s not
pr v nt CO from occurring, nor can it solv an xisting CO probl m. If
your unit has alarm d and you’v provid d v ntilation by l aving your
windows and doors op n, th CO buildup may hav dissipat d by th
tim h lp r sponds. Although your probl m may app ar to b
t mporarily solv d, it’s crucial that th sourc of th CO is d t rmin d
and that th appropriat r pairs ar mad .
This CO alarm is d sign d to act as a monitor; it is not d sign d for us
as a short-t rm t sting d vic to p rform a quick ch ck for th pr s nc
of CO.
CO alarms hav limitations. Lik any oth r l ctronic d vic , CO alarms
ar not fool-proof. CO alarms hav a limit d op rational lif . You must
t st your CO alarm w kly, b caus it could fail to op rat at any tim .
If your CO alarm fails to t st prop rly, or if its s lf-diagnostic t st r v als
a malfunction, imm diat ly hav th unit r plac d. This alarm will not
monitor CO l v ls whil in an rror condition.

Low Battery HUSH®CONTROL
Wh n th batt ri s n d to b r plac d, th unit will produc a low bat-
t ry warning. Th Low Batt ry HUSH®f atur allows you to pr ss th
button on th alarm and disabl th “chirp” for a random p riod of up
to 12 hours. This giv s you a chanc to r plac th batt ry at a mor
conv ni nt tim by disconn cting th alarm from pow r. During this
Low Batt ry HUSH® p riod, your alarm is monitoring for CO.

activat d for th CO alarm to function prop rly. Th Tamp r R sist
f atur is a constant 85dB al rt to indicat th unit has b n
unplugg d or has com loos from th outl t. THIS FEATURE IS INI-
TIALLY DISABLED FROM THE FACTORY AND MUST BE ACTIVATED IF
FEATURE IS DESIRED. To activat th tamp r r sist f atur : Mov th
tamp r r sist activat slid to th “ON” position. Onc nabl d, th r
is a two minut d lay wh n pow r is suppli d to giv you tim to
plug in th unit aft r activating th batt ri s. This f atur is automati-

End of Lif “Hush”: This mod l has an End of Lif Hush f atur which
allows you to pr ss th t st/r s t button on th alarm and disabl th
“chirps” for a p riod of 3 days. This giv s you a chanc to r plac th
alarm at a mor conv ni nt tim whil still providing prot ction. Th two
chirps will r p at again v ry 3 days and can b r s t a total of 30 days.
Aft r 30 days, th End of Lif signal cannot b “Hush d.” Th alarm
must b r plac d.
During this End of Lif HUSH p riod, your alarm is monitoring for CO.

When you first power up the alarm: Th alarm will sound bri fly,
th n th gr n Op rat LED will light. This indicat s that th CO alarm is
r c iving pow r and that th alarm circuit is functioning.
Within a f w minut s, your carbon monoxid alarm will start monitoring
for CO and will continu to do so as long as it r c iv s pow r or th nd
of lif function is activat d.

When the CO alarm loses AC power: If you hav two good AA bat-
t ri s install d, th alarm will automatically switch to th batt ry back-
up mod and th gr n LED will flash approximat ly v ry 60 s conds.
Th unit will continu to op rat normally and d t ct CO .
Wh n AC pow r is r stor d, th alarm will automatically switch back
to normal op rating mod and th gr n LED will com on continu-
ously.
When the CO alarm is unplugged: If th tamp r r sist f atur is
"ON" and th unit is unplugg d it will produc a constant ton until a
batt ry is r mov d, tamp r r sist disabl d or th unit is plugg d back
into th wall. If tamp r r sist f atur in "OFF" and unit is unplugg d, it
will op rat as if on batt ry backup only. Plug unit back into AC as
soon as possibl .
Obs rv th CO alarm r gularly to mak sur th gr n Op rat LED is
on, indicating normal op ration.
If th gr n Op rat LED is not on, unplug th CO alarm, th n plug it
in again. This will cl ar th alarm for r start. If th gr n Op rat LED
do s not light, your CO alarm may b malfunctioning.
Event Memory: If th unit has d t ct d a CO conc ntration of
100ppm or gr at r, th Gr n LED will flash v ry 10 s conds. Pushing
th t st button will cl ar th Ev nt M mory and initiat th t st
s qu nc .
When the CO alarm detects an error condition: If th unit d t cts
an int rnal rror or malfunction, it will produc on b p v ry 30
s conds with a r d LED flash. If rror condition continu s, r plac th
CO alarm imm diat ly. Unit will not r spond to CO in this condition.

7. Maintenance
NOTE: This unit is s al d. Th cov r is not r movabl .
Due to the loudness of the alarm, we suggest that you place your
fingers over the sounder opening while testing your alarm.
CAUTION: Continuous exposure to the high sound level of this
alarm over an extended period of time may cause hearing loss.
