TheKIEV88CMisa medium-sizereflex
camerawitha curtainshutterandinter-
changeablefilmmagazinesofsizes6x6
and6x4,5cm.
Thecameraisintendedforamateurpho-
tography.Witha properhandlingandcare
itwillenableyoutoobtainhigh-quality
slides,large-sizeblack-and-whiteorcol-
ourpictures.
Thecameraisdesignedforuseofa 61.5
mmwiderollfilm(type120or220).
Thecameracurtainshutteroffersexpo-
suretimesovera rangefrom
1/1000

1/2s andmanualexposure"B".
Theshuttercockingmechanismisinter-
lockedwiththefilmtransportmechanism,
thuspreventingdouble filmexposure.

4.1.
Preparingthecameraforloading
Takethecameraoutofthecase.Insert
shutter11asfarasitwillgo.Havingdis-
placedbutton16indirectionofthearrow
andhavingturnedfilmmagazine10as
shownintheFigure,removeitfromthe
camera.
Thefilmmagazinelockwillopenonly
withtheshutterpushedhome.
4.2.
Filmmagazineloading
Themagazineisloadedwiththefilmin
daylight(preferablyina shade).
Removefilmmagazinecover28.Forthis
purposefirstturnlever30andthenshift
button29inthedirectionofarrows.
Takeouttransportmechanism34.Tearoff

thepaperlabelfromtheleaderend.Shift
plate32through90°,placethespoolwith
thefilmintotheseatandresetplate32tothe
initialposition.Inthiscasetheprotruding
centreoftheplateshouldenterthespool
hole.
Shiftplate33through90°andinsertthe
take-upspoolintotheseat.Setplate33to
theinitialpositionsothattheprotrudingcen-
treottheplatewillenterthespool hole.
Passthefilmleaderontheguiderollers,as
shownintheFigure,fittheleaderendinthe
take-upspoolandwindtheleaderbyrotat-
ingthetake-upspool.Besurethatthe
lead-
erwouldbewoundwithoutskewingorcrum-
plingofitsedges.
Liftoneofhalvesofknob31byturning
through90°andbyrotatingitinthedirec-
tionofthearrowsetthearrowontheleader
oppositetheredindexonthetransport
mechanism.Insertshutter11intotheseat

Wheninstallingthefilmmagazine witha

film,
besurethatthe
colourofsignalsinwindows24and25
shouldbesimilarotherwisea doubleex-
posureora pictureomissionmayoccur.

Theprocessofphotographingconsists
ofthefollowingoperations:
shuttercockingandfilmtransporting;
exposuresetting;

Cocktheshutterandtransportthefilmby
turningknob23fully.Itisnecessarytoavoid
incompletecocking.
Atthebeginningoftheshuttercockinga
slightincreaseoftheforceappliedtothe
knobmayberequired.
Whentheshutterisbeingcocked:
-thefilmisautomaticallyrewound;
-thenextpicturenumberissetinwindow26;
thewhitesignalsaresetinwindows24and
25;
-themirrorisloweredtotheoperating
posi-
tion;
-thelensdiaphragmapertureisfullyopened.
Settheexposuretimebyknob23whenthe
shutteriscocked.
Pulltheknobinthedirectionofthearrow
andturnitinanydirectionuntiltheexposure
timevalueonscale21coincideswith
index17arrangedonthecamerabody.
Lowertheknobinthispositionsothatit
wouldbefixed.
Setthelensdiaphragmbyturningring
6withthescaleuntilthechosendia-
phragmaperturevaluecoincideswith
theindex.Thescaleisfixedonall
markeddivisionsofdiaphragmaper-
tures.
Openfinderhood18forviewingby
shiftingbutton37inthedirectionofthe
arrow.Withtherepeatedshiftingofthe
buttonviewfindermagnifyinglens35is

Ifthefilmmagazine6x4.5cmframe
sizeisattachedtothecamerathefram-

Focusthecamerawiththeaidofthe

5.DETERMININGTHEEXPOSURE
TIMEWITHTHEAIDOFPRISM
VIEWFINDERTTL/SPOT
TheviewfinderTTL/SPOTprovidesa
directimageofthephotographedob-
jectatviewing.Itpermitstodetermine
theexposuretimeandthediaphragm
aperturewiththeaidofbuilt-inexpo-
suremeterandhastwoexposureme-
teringmodes:integralandspotmodes.
Theintegralmeteringmodeprovides
meteringinthebrightnessrangefrom
presetvalue;
-thefilmisexposed;
-theredsignalsaresetinwindows24and
25.
Sincethemainoperationsatshooting
arepossibleonlywiththecockedshutterget
usedtococktheshutteraftershootingimme-
diately.
Attheexposuretimesover1/30s itisrecom-
mendedtocarryoutthephotographingfroma
tripod.
Withtheuseofexposuretimesfrom1/8to
112s thereleasebuttonistobereleased
afterthecompleteoperationoftheshutter.
Tripodsockets13inthecameraareprovided
withthread3/8".
Thecamerashuttercanbereleasedwiththe
aidofa straightthreadwhichisscrewedinto
threadedholeofreleasebutton.
Thefilmmagazine hasthedevicewhichper-
mitsdoublefilmexposure.Forthispurpose
sethandle27tothepositionand

2to16000cd/m2andthespotmode- from
8to16000cd/m2.Theexposuremeteris
activatedbypressingbutton39,operates
forabout20s andthenautomatically
turnsoff.Tochangethemeteringmodes
itisnecessarytopressthebuttononce
more.
Asa powersupplysourceoftheexposure
meterservesa batterywithinitialvoltage
of4-4.5V (diameterof11.6mm,lengthof
16.2mm),forexample,thebatterycom-
prisingthreeelementsofPX675,RM675
orMS76types.
Thepowersupplysourceensurestheex-

turerangefromminus5 to45°C.
Whenpreparingtheprismviewfinderfor
operationsetthefilmsensitivityonits
calculatorbyturninghandle 42untilthe
filmspeedvalueinISOunitsappearsin
window43.
Setonthecalculator thevalueofthelens
speedbyturningscale41untiltheappro-
priatevaluecoincideswithindex.
Thelensspeedisa numbercorrespond-
ingtothemaximumrelativeaperture.For
example,itis2.8forMCARSATC lens.
Whenswitchingthespotmeterinqinthe

viewfinderfieldofviewappearsthesignal
©.
Whileviewingintheeyepiece,aimthe
cameraattheobjectsothatitsimage
wouldbearrangedwithintheviewfinder
meteringzone.
Dependingonthebrightnessoftheobject
beingphotographed,intheupperpartof
thefieldofviewoftheviewfinderyouwill
seetheluminescenceofoneofthesig-
nals.
Slowlyturningring40ofthecalculator
achievesimultaneousluminescenceof
bothsignals.
Withthecalculatorinthisposition,choose
the"exposure-diaphragm"pairrequiredfor
photographing,e.g.exposure1/30s in
oppositediaphragmvalue2.8,1/15s is
opposite4,1/8s isopposite5.6,1/2s is
opposite11.
Thechosenvaluesofexposureanddia-
phragmsetonthecameraexposurescale
andonthelensdiaphragmscale.

Theeyepiecedesignmakesitpos-
sibletoemploydioptriclenses.Formount-
ingthedioptriclensitisnecessarytoun-
screwtheclampingringofeyepiece44,

6.UNLOADINGTHECAMERA
Theshootingcanlastuntilletter"K"(end)
appearsinthepicturecounterwindowin-
dicatingthatthefilmhasbeenfullyused.
Afterthisfullyinsertshutter11andre-
movethefilmmagazinefromthecamera
havingmovedbutton16inthedirectionof
thearrow.Usinghandle 31rewindthe
remainedpaperleaderontotake-upspool
(attheendofrewindingtheforceapplied
tothehandleshouldbereduced).
Openthefilmmagazinecover.Remove
transportmechanism34.Turnplate33,
removethespoolwithexposedfilmand
gluetheleaderwitha paper*"label.
Returnplate33totheinitialposition,
installthetransportmechanism34intothe
magazinebodyandclosethecover.
7.REPLACEMENTOFLENS
Designofthecameraenvisagestheuse
ofinterchangeablelenses.
Toremovetheiensturnwitha guideclap-
ingring19ofthebayonetcounterclock-
wiseuntilitstopsandremovethelens.
Whenfittingthelensinsertitonthecam-

WhenphotographingwithKIEV88CM
youcanusedifferentflashlampsforwhich
attachmentthecameraincorporatesahot
shoeinyoke15andplugsocket14.This
allowstouseflashlampswiththehot
shoe(cablelessconnection)andflash
lampswithplugsocket(cableconnec-
tion).
Whenoperatingthepulseflashlampthe
minimumexposureis1/30s.
Beforeinstallingtheflashlampintoyoke
15youhavetoremoveinsulatingplate9
fromtheyoke.

REPLACEMENTOFPOWER
SUPPLYSOURCE
Thepowersupplysourceoperatingis

Toreplaceorinstallthepowersupply

theendofchuck"-"symbolisengraved
onthecap)installitintotheseat.

CARE
Protectthecamerafromdust,moisture,
snow,harmfulvapours,jerks,jolting,
impactsandsharptemperaturevariations.
Handlethecamerawithcare,donotexert
theexcessiveeffortsinhandlingit,keep
thecameraclean.
Donotremovethelenswithoutan

utmoustnecessitysincethismayresultin
dirtanddustgettingintothecamera.
Cleanthecameraregularly.Removethe
dustfromitsexternalandinternalsurfaces
witha softbrushorblowoffthedustwith
theaidofa rubberbulb.Thoroughly
protecttheopticalcomponentsfrom
gettingdustyordirty,trytoavoidtouching
themwithfingers.
Havingbroughtthecamerafromthefrosty
weatherintothewarmpremises,donot
openitimmediately,letitbecomegradually
warmedupfor2-3hours.
Whensomedefectsorfaultshavebeen
discovered,
donotcarryouttherepairon
yourown.Therepairandadjustment
shouldbecarriedoutbythequalified
specialists.
