Revised 7/16/10 ECN 100715008 Status 9 Part No. 95556
WARNING: Fixtures mustbegrounded in accordance with local codes orthe National Electrical Code.
Failure to do so mayresult in serious personal injury.
SAFETY WARNING: To maintain light efficiency and prevent fixture overheating, lenses must be kept
clean and free of dirt, dust, leaves, trash and mineral deposits from water. Foroptimum performance a
regularly scheduled maintenance program should be followed. Fixtures can become very hot. Glass lenses and
metal areas above and around the lamp can become hot enough to blisterhands. Particularcare should be
taken not to locate fixtures where small childrencan reachthem. Due to the risk of fire, do not aim the fixture
directly towards a wall or foliage within a reasonable distance.
MAINTENANCE: A regularly scheduled maintenance program should be established to retain optimum light
outputand reduce heat retention.Dusting with a soft, clean, dry cloth isnormallysufficient for the reflector.
Any accumulation of dust or dirt should be removed regularly from both sided of the lens during relamping
(using ammonia water). Do notuse alkaline or acid cleaners on reflectorsurfaces.
LAMP NOTE: All lamps must be rated for “Universal Burning Position” because fixture tilt changes lamp
orientation. DO NOT operateluminaire with missing or damaged lens.
NOTE: All wiring shouldbe doneby a qualified electrician. KEEP THIS SHEET FORFUTURE REFERENCE.
ATTENTION: If your fixture is equipped with a multi-tap ballast and if no voltage was specified on the purchase order,
the ballast has been wired for operation on a 277 volt circuit (347v in Canada). If other than 277 volts is required, i.e.
120v, 208v, 240v, connect incoming voltage lead to selected voltage lead on ballast. Cap off all unused voltage leads.

!
STANDARD MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS:
Single AFL30 fixture E.P.A.’s = 3.2 (Face-on) AFL30 Maximum Fixture Weight = 80 Pounds
1.9 (45° Tilt)
1.7 (Side)
The fixture mounting means must be designed to adequately support the fixture weight including wind load listed for the
local area.
Note: Kim Lighting assumes no responsibility for fixture mountings designed by others.
!

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS:
Make certain electricity is OFF before
beginning maintenance procedures.
Reflector and Lens Cleaning:
A regularly scheduled maintenance
program should be established to
retain light output and minimize heat
retention. Dusting with a clean, dry
cloth is normally sufficient for the
reflector. Dust or dirt film accumulation
should be regularly removed from both
sides of the lens by washing with
ammonia and water.
DO NOT use strong alkaline, acid, or
abrasive cleaners.

Make certain electrical supply is OFF before starting fixture installation.
1. Install fixture within 5 ft. of outlet or junction box. (All AFL30 fixtures are equipped with a 6ft. long #16-3 Type
S00W-A cord.) Attach fixture cord to circuit leads observing polarity, i.e., green-to-ground, white-to-common, and
black-to-voltage. Cord should have a drip-loop between junction box and fixture (see below). Allow enough length
in cord to make fixture aiming adjustments.
2. Open lens frame and install lamp of type and wattage shown on fixture label and chart on page 3. All lamps must
be rated for “Universal Burning Position”because fixture tilt changes lamp orientation. Check that fixture gasket is
in place and close lens frame by applying left pressure to seat frame against hinges before closing. Tighten screws
progressively and evenly to a hand-snug condition with allen wrench.
!
WARNING!
The H.I.D. / Fluorescent fixture utilizes a lamp that may
contain mercury. For information on disposal of lamp, go to
website: www.lamprecycle.org

Ballast Access and Replacement:
Make certain electricity is OFF before
accessing/replacing ballast.
1. Adjust fixture in an upright position to ease
ballast replacement. (Refer to Fixture
Adjustment Instructions above)
2. Loosen three (3) captive screws while
holding ballast compartment cover. Lower
cover until the internal chain supports the
weight of the cover.
3. Disconnect power supply and ground leads.
Disconnect black and white leads extending
to lamp compartment.
4. Remove four (4) #8-32 hex nuts and
lockwashers located on each corner of
ballast core. Grab ballast assembly with both
hands, (Caution: assembly weighs
approximately 35 lbs.), slide ballast away
from studs.
5. Replace the ballast assembly with proper
type and wattage. Secure assembly with four
(4) #8-32 hex nuts and lockwashers.
6. Connect lamp leads, power supply and
ground leads i.e., green-to ground, white-to-
common, and black-to-voltage. Locate wire
connectors away from ballast core and coil.
7. Replace ballast compartment cover being
careful not to pinch any wires between cover
and housing. Tighten screws progressively
and evenly to a hand-snug condition with F”
allen wrench.
