operation instructions.
Before using this equipment, or for any questions on
the operations of the appliance, consult and follow all
instructions and safety warnings found in the appliance
operator’s manual supplied from the manufacturer of
the appliance.
TIMER OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
The solid state components in this controller are designed
to operate reliably in a temperature range up to 158°F/70°C.
Before installing this controller, it should be verified that
the ambient temperature at the mounting location does not
exceed 158°F/70°C.
CLEANING THE TIMER
Using a clean damp cloth, wipe down your timer daily using
a commercial quality foodservice-approved detergent.
Do not allow oil to build up on any part of the timer.
NEVER use chemical or abrasive cleaners
on your timer.The timer’s overlay may be
damaged.
PROPER USE OF USB PORT
The USB port is to be used with a USB Memory Stick
for the loading of images to the (FASTIMER.)®TT-500
and downloading of cycle count reports ONLY. No other
devices (i.e., mobile phones, MP3 players, cameras, etc.)
are to be connected to the port. Improper use of the USB
port with unauthorized devices will likely cause damage to
the TT-500, resulting in the warranty becoming void.
OPERATING THE TT-500
MAIN OPERATING SCREENS
Your new (FASTIMER.)®TT-500 Touch Timer can be operated
as a timer for your Grill, Fryer, or as a Quality Holding
timer.
Selecting an operating mode is done through the icons in
the Manager’s Programming menu.
NOTE: If neither the Fryer nor Quality Timer icons
appear on the bottom row of action keys, and you see
6 individual aisles or lanes of a grill depicted on the
main screen (as illustrated), then you are in the grill
timer mode.
Active Cook Cycles
Green Rectangle: a cook cycle is active
Yellow Rectangle: a stage is complete
Red Rectangle: a cook cycle is complete

START A COOK CYCLE: Press any food item.
SORT MODE: Day parts can be sorted
either by a user selected order, frequency,
or alphabetically. Press to toggle choices.
ACTIVE TIMES: In Quality and Fryer timer
modes, push this button to see a list of up to 9
products currently being timed. They will appear
in least to most time remaining/stage order.
BUILD: Press to access the Product Build
Library. Then press a food item to see the build
procedure assigned to that product.
HELP: Press to see graphical instructions of the
operating mode you are in.
OPERATING MODE:
Ficon indicates you are in Fryer Timer Mode.
Qicon indicates you are in Quality Timer Mode.
TOOLS: Press to access Programming and User Favorites
Mode.
LEFT AND RIGHT ARROWS: Press to scroll
through product recipe screens.

RE-ORDER RECIPES
TO BEGIN, press the following button sequence:
RE-ORDER/MOVE RECIPE: Press any food
item. Use the large left and right arrows to
scroll through the items.
Use the small left and right arrows at the
bottom to move the food item to a new
location. A colored rectangle will move along
with that food item for easy identification.
Once you are satisfied with the location,
press the Back key to save and return to the
previous screen.

FEATURE DESCRIPTIONS
Alarm
Toggle between making the alarm audible or mute.
Auto Cancel
The TT-500 offers a choice of manual or automatic canceling
of each stage.
Beep Pattern
The TT-500 can be programmed for one of five (5) different
beep patterns.
Count
The TT-500 offers a choice of two counting modes: up
or down. The timer will count “up” from zero to the
programmed done time, or “down” to zero from the
programmed done time.
Day Parts
This feature lets you assign specific food items to certain
“parts” of the day. For example, you may want to set a
breakfast day part, a lunch day part, a dinner day part and a
late night day part all with time of day specific food items
according to your cooking cycles. By doing this you are
greatly increasing crew efficiency as they won’t have to
search through all menu items when starting a cook.
Delta/Sum
The TT-500 can be programmed for Time (Delta) mode or Total
(Sum) mode. In Time mode, each stage time counts down
independently. In Total mode, all stage times are totaled and
a time is displayed either counting up or down.
Stage
Each product has unlimited timing cycles called stages. Each
stage has a name, product image, count (up or down), alarm
(on or off), beep pattern (5), volume (4), delta/sum, auto
cancel, and stage picture.
Volume
The TT-500 can be programmed for one of four (4) different
volume levels.

CREATE A NEW STAGE NAME
Press New Name, then type the new name on the keyboard.
TIP: Use the UP arrow to shift between upper and lower case
letters.
When done, press enter, or continue with New Stage Time.
CREATE A NEW STAGE TIME
Press New Time, then type the new time on the keyboard.
TIP: Use the back arrow to delete the last typed number or
letter.
Press enter when done to return to the recipe programming
menu.
To exit programming mode, press the SAVE and then the
BACK icons.

SYSTEM PROGRAMMING
Enter System Programming Mode by pressing:
From the system programming menu, you can easily access
any one of the following options:
BRIGHTNESS: Tap this icon to scroll through
the 5 levels of screen brightness.
MASTER VOLUME: Tap this icon to hear the
four master sound levels…from mute to loud.
SYSTEM TIME: Press the clock icon to set the
date and time.
Press the up and down arrows
to scroll through day of the week,
date and time.
Press the SAVE icon to keep your
changes and return to previous
screen.
Press the RETURN icon to return
to previous screen without saving
changes.

BEEP PATTERN: Each time you tap this icon,
you will hear one of 5 distinct alarm tones
that will be used as a default sound for your
products.
TIME DIM: Press this icon to dim the screen to
one of the pre-programmed brightness levels
after a certain amount of time. Make sure to
save your settings by pressing the SAVE key
when you are done.
COPY TO USB: Insert a USB thumb drive into
the USB port on the bottom left-hand side of
the TT-500 timer. Then, press the Copy to USB
icon. You will then be prompted to choose
which TT-500 operating mode you want to
copy files from (grill, fryer or quality hold).
Press the mode icon and the system settings
will be downloaded to your USB thumb drive.
During the download, you will be prompted to
“PLEASE WAIT, COPYING.” Once
the download is complete, that
prompt will no longer appear.
Touch the BACK icon to return
to System Programming Main
Menu.
COPY FROM USB: Insert a USB thumb drive
into the USB port on the bottom left-hand side
of the TT-500 timer. Then, press the Copy From
USB icon. You will then be prompted to choose
which operating mode you want to copy files
to from your thumb drive (grill, fryer or quality
hold). Press the mode icon and the system
settings will be downloaded to your USB
thumb drive. During the download, you will be
prompted to “PLEASE WAIT, COPYING.” Once
the download is complete, that prompt will no
longer appear. Touch the BACK icon to return to
System Programming Main Menu.
NOTE: When changing user modes or
activating new icons, DO NOT turn timer
off while it is rebooting.This will create a
severe system error or failure.
Standard wait time for unit to scan new
files and reboot is 2 minutes.

LEFT AND RIGHT ARROWS: Press to scroll
through product screens.
CLEAR COUNT: Press a food item. Count will
reset to zero.
EXPORT COUNT LOG: First insert a USB
memory stick into the TT-500 then press the
Export icon to export the event log file to
the USB. Once the download is complete
the “PLEASE WAIT, COPYING” prompt will
disappear. Remove the thumb drive and the
information you need will be stored in a folder
named “LOGS” and the files will end with the
.log suffix.

HELP: Press to see graphical instructions.
NOTE: Press the RIGHT ARROW icon to
access additional programming features.
DAY PART SCHEDULE: Press this icon to
program the day part schedule. You can choose
the start time of each day part option: morning,
afternoon, evening, or late night.
After choosing a day part, enable
the alarm by pressing the ALARM
icon and then programming in the
time of the day you would like
each day part to begin.
Press the SAVE icon to keep your
settings.
Touch the BACK icon to return to
System Programming Main Menu.
SELECT USER MODE: Press this icon to
toggle between the three operating modes on
the TT-500 timer. You will have the option of
choosing the Grill, Quality Hold for Fryer Timer
Modes.
NOTE: In Grill Mode, you have the option of
showing the food icons in a “Left to Right”
display or in “Right
to Left” display.This
is useful if you have
two grills operating
at the same time. After pressing one of
these operating mode keys, the timer will
reboot itself which will take a few moments.
PRODUCT COUNTS (VIEW AND/OR
DOWNLOAD: Press the PRODUCT COUNTS
icon to access this feature.
NOTE: When changing user modes or
activating new icons, DO NOT turn timer
off while it is rebooting.This will create a
severe system error or failure.
Standard wait time for unit to scan new
files and reboot is 2 minutes.

STORE ALERT SETTINGS: Your TT-500 timer
comes with 2 (two) single action daily alerts and
1 repeating Store Alert. For example: a single
action daily alert could be a reminder to filter the
oil used with your fryer, or clean/season a grill
on a daily basis. An example of a repeating Store
Alert would be a notification to employees to
wash their hands every 30 minutes.
Once in the Store Alert Setting screen, you can
set the alarm time by pressing the up/down
keys above the hour, minute and AM/PM icons
next to each action icon.
To activate an alarm, press the ALARM OFF
icon. The ALARM ON icon will appear. Press
again to turn alarm off.
Save your settings by pressing the
SAVE icon.
To activate the repeating Store
Alert, from the main Store Alert
programming screen, press
the RIGHT ARROW icon. Then,
program in the start and end
times for the repeating alarm and
program how frequently the alarm
should sound by using the UP/
DOWN keys.
Remember to activate the alarm by pressing
the ALARM OFF icon so that it changes to the
ALARM ON icon.
UPLOAD IMAGES TO TT-500
LIBRARY
1. Insert a USB memory stick into the TT-500.
2. Press the UPLOAD IMAGES icon.
SCROLL LIST: Press the up and
down arrows to scroll through
the list of images on the USB
memory stick.
CHOOSE IMAGE: Press the
image name you want to upload.
RECIPE LIBRARY: Press to add
image.
BUILD LIBRARY: Press to add
image.
HELP: Press to see graphical
instructions.
BACK: Return to previous screen.
RESTORE PASSWORD: Press this icon to
restore passwords back to factory defaults.
DELETE RECIPE IMAGES: Press this icon to
view a screen shot of all available food icon
images for the specific operating mode you
are in. Simply touch the food icon which you
wish to delete, and it will be removed from the
product library.

DELETE BUILD IMAGES: Press this icon to
view a screen shot of all available product build
icon images for the specific operating mode
that you are in. Simply touch the product build
icon which you wish to delete, and it will be
removed from the product build library.
SCROLL MODE: Press this icon to toggle
between viewing icons on the main product
selection screen one column at a time or three
columns at a time.
NOTE: This function is only available when you
are in the Fryer Timer or Quality Hold Timer
modes.
Format Images for Uploading toTT-500
NOTES: Images must be saved in an 8-bit BMP format to
work with the TT-500. The following instructions apply to
Photoshop CS4; however, similar programs may be used
to save to an 8-bit BMP format.
Image sizes for the Fryer & Quality HoldTimers are as
follows:
Food Items: 73w x 44h pixels
Build Screens: 320w x 197h pixels
Image sizes for the Grill Timer are as follows:
Food Items: 43w x 33h pixels
Build Screens: 320w x 197h pixels
File names can be no longer than 8 characters.
NOTE: If you want a transparent background, use the
color R0, G0, B32 as your background.
IMAGE FORMATTING
IMAGE FORMATTING (CONTINUED)
1. Open your image and choose settings as shown
below. Then click on OK.
2. Choose File > Save As. Type in a file name and change
the Format to BMP. Click on Save. Your BMP Options
screen should look like the screen below. Click on OK.

Free Program for Service Exchanges
Kitchen Brains provides an Exchange Program, at no extra cost,
if a unit should fail. In the event of failure, you have the option of (1)
receiving a replacement product from our factory, freight prepaid;
(2) exchanging the failed product for a replacement product at
one of our authorized local service centers; or (3) selecting on-site
repair or replacement of the failed unit by one of our authorized
local service centers.
To take advantage of this program, simply call our toll-free
customer service number, 1-800-243-9271. If you elect to receive
an exchange unit from the factory, a replacement unit will be sent
immediately. Upon receipt of the replacement unit, simply return
the failed unit to the factory, freight prepaid, using the same carton
and packing material in which the replacement unit was shipped.
The unit will be replaced free of charge, if still under warranty, and
if the product shows no evidence of abuse or alteration. If the unit
is not under warranty, you will pay repair charges and shipping
costs to and from the factory.
Any minor adjustment or calibration and any labor costs for the
replacement of probes will be made at your expense.
The Kitchen Brains®Exchange Program is available to any Domestic
Customer whose account is current, and applies to all Kitchen
Brains®Timers (excluding ZAP), Computers and Controllers.
WARRANTY
Kitchen Brains warrants all new timers, computers,
and controllers for 1 year from the date of purchase
including computers, controllers, and timers. Kitchen
Brains warrants all other items for a period of 90 days
unless otherwise stated at the time of purchase.
