1. RS422 to USB Con erter Module
The Cygnus Un erwater Gauges supplie with Topsi e Repeater
(TSR) facility that connects to a computer USB port will be
supplie with a single RS-422 to USB converter mo ule instea of
two separate units as state in the manual, shown in Fig. 1.
The converter is labelled as a USB-485 converter but is
suitable for RS-422 use as the RS-485 standard is written to
be electrically compatible with RS-422

The USB-485 converter is powere entirely from the USB port on
the computer an is completely isolate internally from the
computer supply.
Once installe the USB-485 converter functions exactly the same
as the separate RS422 to RS-232 an RS-232 to USB converters
previously supplie . The instructions in sections 6 an 7 of the
Operation Manual are therefore still relevant.

Electrical Connections
RS422 input signal connections to the converter are ma e using a
9 way D-sub plug, shown below in Fig 2.

Cable Termination
For cable lengths over 300 meters a 120 Ω termination resistor
shoul be wire over the A an B signals at the converter en . See
Fig 2.
Dri ers for Windows
The kit is supplie with a Cygnus Cyglink CD ROM, this CD
contains rivers for the USB-485 converter. The rivers are
compatible with Win ows XP, Vista 32 bit & Vista 64 bit operating
systems.
When the USB-485 converter is first plugge into the computer
you will be prompte to provi e rivers, make sure the Cygnus CD

for the rivers automatically from the CD.

Changing the COM Port Number

change the COM port number assigne by the river installation.
