1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
HOW TOUSE THESEINSTRUCTIONS
Please read these instructions carefully to familiarize
yourselfwiththerequiredtools,materials,andinstallation
sequences. Follow the sections that pertain to your
particular installation. This will help you avoid costly
mistakes. In addition to proper installation, read all
operating and safety instructions.
All information in these instructions is based onthe latest
product information available at the time of publication.
Kohler Co. reserves the right to make changes in product
characteristics, packaging, or availability at any time
without notice.
These instructions contain important care, cleaning, and
warranty information – please leave for the consumer.
INSTALLER HAZARD NOTIFICATION
WARNING: Risk of injury or product damage.
Handle vitreous china products very carefully.

Fixture dimensions are nominal and conform to
tolerances by ANSI standards (A112.19.2).
PRODUCTREQUIREMENTS
Since all toilets do not have the same supply
rough-in, you may have to change the location of
the supply stop to install this toilet.
Closet flange must be 12” on-center from wall.
Seat post holes are on 5-1/2” centers.
This toilet is designed to flush using 3.5 gallons
when the tank refill time is adjusted to between 50
and 55 seconds. Tank refill time is measured from
the moment the flapper ball reseats to the time
water stops flowing through the refill tube. Slightly
longer refill time may be necessary to compensate
forpermanentortemporary low waterpressure.To
adjust the refill time, see “To Adjust Refill Time”,
on Page 5.

REMOVE EXISTING TOILET
NOTE: Carefully inspect the new fixture for any sign of
damage before removing the existing toilet.
Turn off the water supply.
Flush the toilet, and sponge out all remaining water from
the tank and bowl.
Disconnectthesupplyvalve, andremovetheoldtankand
bowl.
Remove the old gasket from the floor and closet flange
with a putty knife.
Remove the old T-bolts (the T-shaped bolts in the closet
flange), and discard.
CAUTION: Risk of hazardous gases. If the new
toilet is not installed immediately, temporarily stuff
a rag in the closet flange.

ROUGH-IN PLUMBING
Turn off the water supply.
Install or relocate the supplies and outlets as necessary
to conform to the roughing-in dimensions. For shut-off
valve location, see Fig. #2.

3. INSTALLATION
INSTALL NEW SHUT-OFF VALVE
For supply installation, refer to the instructions packed
with the supply stop.
Locate the supply shut-off valve so it is 7-1/4” above the
floorline, and 4-1/8” to the left of the centerline of the
closet flange.

INSTALL TOILET GASKET
Position the toilet upside down on padding.
Firmly attach thegasket around thetoilet outlet. Ifyou are
usinga gasket with an integral plastic sleeve,positionthe
gasket with the sleeve facing away from the toilet.
If desired, apply a 1/4”-thick bead of toilet setting
compound around the toilet base.
NOTE: If a rag or other plug was placed in the closet
flange, remove the rag before setting the toilet. Fig. #4

ALIGN AND SET TOILET
Carefully align and lower the toilet over the closet flange
and T-bolts.
CAUTION: Risk of external leakage. Donot lift or
rock the toilet after placement. A new gasket must
be reapplied if you break the watertight seal.
Apply full body weight to the toilet rim to set the seal. Fig. #5
SECURETOILET
Assemble the bolt cap bases, washers, and nuts on the
exposed T-bolts.
CAUTION: Risk of personal injury or product
damage. Overtightening may cause breakage or
chipping.
Hand tighten the nuts, then tighten them an additional
1/2-turn with a wrench. If the T-bolts extend more than
1/4” from the top of the nut, cut off the excess with a
hacksaw, and file the cut edges. Wipe away any residue.

INSTALL TANK
Makesure thethreetankboltsextend completelythrough
the holes in the gasket. Set the tank onto the bowl, using
the tank bolts as a guide. Center the gasket on the inlet
of the bowl. Assemble the washers and brass nuts onto
the bolts.
Alternately tighten the three brass nuts so the top of the
tank and the top of the bowl are both level. Be sure the
brass nuts are tight enough to achieve a watertight seal.
CAUTION: Risk of product damage.
Overtightening may cause breakage or chipping of
the vitreous china bowl or tank. Fig. #7

CONNECTSUPPLYSHUT-OFF VALVE
NOTICE: Read this section carefully before performing
these steps.
For installation of the supply shut-off valve, refer to the
installation instructions packed with the valve. Carefully
bend the tubing to fit.
Cuttheend of thetubing1/4”longerthan the distance be-
tweenthe supplyshut-offvalveandthesupplyshank.Re-
move any burrs from the inside of the tubing.
Slip the coupling nut, compression nut, and ferrule onto
the tubing. Insert the tubing into the supply shut-off valve
and the supply shank, positioning the seal washer
(supplied) or the compression washer (not supplied), as
shown.Handtightenthecouplingnut,andthentightenthe
compression nut.
WARNING: Risk of property damage. Do not
overtighten any of these nuts, or you may deform
connections and cause leakage. Do not use tools
to tighten plastic nuts. Fig. #8

CHECK FOR LEAKS
Turn on the shut-off valve, and check for leaks. If the
connections are squarely assembled, a slight re-tighten-
ing of the nuts will stop any leaks. Check all connections
for leaks for several days. The nuts under the bolt caps
may also require retightening.

4. ADJUSTMENTS
TO ADJUST WATER LEVEL
Makesurethe refill tubeisinsertedinto the overflowtube.
Check that the water level is at the water line inside the
toilettank.Ifthelevelisoff,holdthemiddleofthefloatrod,
and carefully bend the rod up or down as needed.

TO ADJUST REFILL TIME
To adjust the refill time, first loosen the locknut. Turn the
timingscrew clockwisetoincrease therefilltime; counter-
clockwise to decrease the time. After adjustment,tighten
the locknut.

5. TROUBLESHOOTING

6. IMPORTANT CONSUMER INFORMATION
CONSUMERRESPONSIBILITIES
Ifyouliveinahardwaterarea,makecertainthattheholes
in the toilet rim are kept clean to ensure proper bowl
flushing.Toiletbowlcleanersshouldbeusedatleastonce
a week. Use a long-handled brush to clean the rim holes,
and to clean as far into the trap as possible to prevent
mineral deposits from forming.
Most toilet bowl cleaners are not harmful to the vitreous
china surface of the toilet bowl. Please follow the bowl
cleaner manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
Do not use abrasive cleansers or solvents.
WARNING: Donot use in-tank cleaners.Products
containing chlorine (calcium hypochlorite) can
seriously damage fittings in the tank. This damage
can cause leakage and property damage.
Kohler Company shall not be responsible or liable for any
tank fitting damage caused by the use of cleaners
containing chlorine (calcium hypochlorite).

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the
Kohler Warranty, its benefits, and limitations. Kohler Co.
and its distributors support you with one of the largest

solve any problems you may have.

THIRD: If you are unable to obtain warranty service
through either your contractor or Kohler Co.

FOURTH: Include all pertinent information regarding
yourclaim,includingacompletedescriptionof
the product, model numbers, colors, finishes,
and the date the product was installed.
Include a description of the problem, and a
photocopy of your invoice for the products
involved. Also give us the name of the
contractor and distributor.
LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY
Kohlerplumbing fixtures andfittingsarewarrantedfreeof
manufacturing defects.
Kohler Co. will, at its election repair, replace, or make
appropriate adjustment where Kohler Co. inspection
discloses any such defects occurring in normal usage
within one year after installation. Kohler Co. is not
responsible for installation costs.
To obtain warranty service, contact Kohler Co. either
through your Dealer or Plumbing Contractor or by writing
Kohler Co., Attn: Consumer Affairs Department, Kohler,
WI 53044 U.S.A.
Implied warranties, including that of merchantability, are
expressly limited in duration to the duration of this
warranty. Kohler Co. disclaims any responsibility for
consequential damages.
Some states do not allow limitations on how long an
implied warranty lasts or the exclusion or limitation of
incidental or consequential damages, so this limitation
and exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives
you specific legal rights. You may also have rights which
vary from state to state.
