roommustbelimited,sothatintheeventofamajorleak,theoodingoftheroomwill

Unit.WhenyoudonotusetheSY50system,turnitoffwiththePowerbuttononthe
OperatingPanel.IfthetransducerisloweredwhenyouturnofftheSY50system,itis
automaticallyretractedtoitsupperposition.

IfyouturnofftheSY50systembymeansoftheon/offswitchontheProcessorUnityou
candamagethesoftwareandtheinterfacesettingsusedtocommunicatewithexternal
devices.
Manualoperationofthehullunit
Intheeventofimproperoperation,thepowerfulelectricmotoronthehullunitmay
causeseriousdamagetotheequipmentand/orinjurytopersonnel.Therefore,before you
startmanualoperation,readcarefullythroughtherelevantoperatingprocedures.

Youmustfamiliarizeyourselfwiththecorrecthandlingmethodsandtherelevantsafety
requirements.
Rulesfortransducerhandling
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateinstrument.Incorrectactionsmay
damagethetransducerbeyondrepair.Aphysicalblowtothetransducerfacemayeasily
damageoneormoreelements.Observethesetransducerhandlingrules:
•Donotactivatethetransducerwhenitisoutofthewater.
•Donothandlethetransducerroughly.Avoidimpacts.
•Donotexposethetransducertodirectsunlightorexcessiveheat.
•Donotusehigh-pressurewater,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducer.
•Donotdamagetheouterprotectiveskinofthetransducer.

TheSY50isanomnidirectionalmediumfrequencysh-ndingsonardesignedfor
coastalsheries.
TheSY50sonarsystemismainlydesignedforsmallershingvessels.Itstilloffersthe
latesttechnologyavailable,functionalityyouhaveformerlyfoundonlyinthelarger
sonarsandotheracousticsystemswehavedesigned.
•Alltransceiverelectronicsareplacedinsidethetransducer.Thismeanslesscables,
lessnoiseandeasierinstallation.
•Thediameteroftheinstallationtrunkiseightinches.Thismakesiteasytoretrotan
oldersonarsystemwithanewSY50system.
•Thehullunitcanbeplacedonneworexistinginstallationtrunkswithdifferent
heights.Theheightoftheinstallationtrunkandthelengthofthetransducershaftcan
beadjustedtotthesizeofthevessel.
•Thetransducercanbeloweredto400or600millimetresbelowthehull.
•Maximumvesselspeedwiththetransducerfullyloweredis10knots.
Thecentreoperationalfrequencyis57kHz.Youcanselectanyoperationalfrequency
from54to60kHz.Thisfrequencyrangegivesyouanoperatingrangeofupto
2000metresdependingontheacousticconditions.
Thetransmittedsonarbeamscanbetiltedelectronically.Thisallowsyoutosearch
thewholewatercolumnandoptimisethesonarperformancetomatchtheacoustic
conditions.Abuilt-instabilizingsystemisincludedforelectronicpitchandroll
compensation,butyoucanconnecttoanexternalsensorforimprovedaccuracy.

betweenthehullunitandtheProcessorUnitonthebridgeislimitedtoasingleEthernet
cable.BoththehullunitandtheProcessorUnitcanoperatefromDCpower.Thismakes
theSY50systemaperfectchoiceforcoastalshingvesselsthatdonothave3-phase
poweron-board.
TheSY50systemtransmitsandreceivesusingcentrefrequency57kHz.Thisallowsa
typicalrangeupto2000metres.Bymeansof256individualchannelstheSY50system
offersaclearandhigh-resolutionsonarpresentationnotpreviouslyseenonasonarin
thispricerange.Ourwellknown"largesonar“functionslikefullbeamstabilisation,
verticalviews,FMtransmission,single-pingtransmission(horizontalandverticalinone
ping)areincluded.Thepopularoperatingsoftwareknownfromallourlatestproducts
isused.Withtheuserinterfaceavailableinalmost20languagestheSY50systemis
exceptionallyeasytouse.
Thesystemisprovidedwithasmallandcompactcomputer.Itdoesnotcontainanyfans
orothermovingparts,andcansafelybeinstalledinahumidenvironment.Tosimplify
thebasicoperatingfeatureswecanalsoprovideasmalloperatingpanel.

TheSY50systemoffersthesameuserinterfaceandoperatingsoftwareasourother
sonars,echosoundersandcatchmonitoringsystems.Thisenableseasierandfaster
trainingofnewusers.
•Theechopresentationsareoptimisedformultipledisplays.Providedthatyouhave
connectedadditionaldisplaystoyourProcessorUnit,youcanusetheDockingViews
functiontotakeanysonarviewandplaceitonaseparatedisplay.Whenyoumovea
viewtoanotherdisplay,itwillautomaticallybescaledforthebestpossibleresult.
•Itiscommonforsonarstorequiremanypingstobuildthevariousviewsintheecho
presentation.OntheSY50,allthesonarviewsinthepresentationarebuiltusing
theechoesfromonesingleping.Thisdramaticallyimprovestheupdaterateand
providesbetterreal-timeinformation.
•TheSY50systempermitsyoutorecordreal-timesonarsituations.Thisallowsyouto
replaycompletesequences.Theplaybackcontainstheexactsameechoinformation,
andcanbeusedformissionhistory,trainingortroubleshootingpurposes.
Greatemphasishasbeenplacedonanintuitiveuserinterfaceandthebestpossiblesonar
presentationsonahighresolutioncolourdisplay.
TheSY50systemisequippedwiththecelebratedsignalprocessingsoftwaredeveloped
byKongsbergMaritime.ThisincludesHyperbolicFM(HFM)transmissions.Thispulse
typeisalsoknownas"chirp".Itensuresaclutterfreepicturewithveryhighresolution
inrange.Thesignalprocessingandbeamformingisperformedinafastdigitalsignal
processingsystemusingthefulldynamicrangeofthesignals.
