TheCP200-5Cisaspecializedtransducerdesignedforwatervelocitymeasurementsand
shnding.
TheCP200-5Ctransducerhousingcontainsthreeseparatetransducerssetuptomeasure
watervelocity,andonesingle-beamtransducerfortraditionalsh-nding.Duetoitshigh
operatingfrequencytheCP200-5Cprovidesaccuratemeasurementsanddetailedechograms.
Thetransducerisnormallymountedushwiththehullplating.Aclampingframeisused
tosecurethetransducerbodytoamountingframe.Themountingframeisweldedtothe
bottomplate.Thetransducercablepenetratesthehullusingacablegland.Thecablegland
consistsofabushing,rubbergasket,washersandapackingnipple.
Thetransducercanalsobeushmountedatthebottomofablisteroradropkeel.
Note
TheCP200-5Ctransducerisconnectedtoaechosoundersystem.Formaximum
measurementaccuraywestronglyrecommendthatyouconnectamotionreferenceunit
(MRU)totheechosoundersystem.Ifamotionreferenceunit(MRU)isnotavailable,use
amotionsensortomeasurerollandpitch.Asaminimumsolutionaglobalpositioning
system(GPS)canbeused.
Toobtainprecisiondatathatarebothdetailedandcorrect,itisnecessarytoalignthe
transducerandmeasureitslocationandoffsetinrelationtothevessel’ scoordinatesystem.
WerecommendthattheechosoundersystemwiththeCP200-5Ctransduceriscalibrated
priortouse.

Thealignmentanddimensionalsurveyingmustbedoneafterthetransducerinstallationwith
thevesselstillindrydock.Thecalibrationoftheacousticdopplercurrentproler(ADCP)
functionalityisnormallydoneatseaimmediatelyafterleavingdrydock.
Alignment
ThealignmenttasksrequiredfortheCP200-5Ctransducerinclude:
•Measurethetransducertoensurethatithasbeenmountedhorizontallywithaslight
inclinationangle.
•Measurethetransducertoensurethatithasbeenorientedcorrectlyinparallelwiththe
keel.
Dimensionalsurveying
Determiningtherelativepositionsandorientationsofthesensorsandthetransduceris
importanttoobtainhighlyaccuratedata.Thedimensionalsurveyingtasksrecommendedfor
theCP200-5Ctransducerinclude:
•Denethevesselcoordinatesystem.
Thevesselcoordinatesystemisestablishedtodenetherelativephysicallocationsof
systemunitsandsensors.Whenyouhaveseveraldifferentsensorsandtransducerson
yourvessel,andyouwisheachofthemtoprovideaccuratedata,youneedtoknow
theirrelativephysicalpositions.
•Denethelocationoftheorigininthecoordinatesystem.
Theoriginisthecommonreferencepointwhereallthreeaxisinthevesselcoordinate
systemmeet.Allphysicallocationsofthevessel’ssensors(radarandpositioning
systemantennas,echosounderandsonartransducers,motionreferenceunits,etc.)are
referencedtotheorigin.
•Denethevessel’scentreline.
•Measurethephysicallocationandorientationofeachsensor(orsensorantenna).
Bymeansofthevesselcoordinatesystem,thephysicallocationofeverysensorcan
bedenedusingthreenumericalvaluesforX,YandZ.Thesevaluesmustdenethe
verticalandhorizontaldistancesfromasinglereferencepoint;theorigin.Theaccuracy
ofthethreenumericalvaluesforX,YandZdenestheaccuracyofthesensordata.
•Measurethephysicallocationandorientationofthetransducer.Placeitinthecoordinate
system.
TheinformationprovidedbythedimensionalsurveyisenteredintotheCP200-5Csoftware
asinstallationparameters.

ADCPcalibration
Thecalibrationproceduresareprovidedintherelevantenduserdocumentation.
Thecalibrationoftheacousticdopplercurrentproler(ADCP)functionalityisnormally
doneatseaimmediatelyafterleavingdrydock.Ifanexistingsensorshavebeenreplaced,or
anewsensorhasbeenaddedtothevessel,anewcalibrationisrequired.Anewcalibration
mayalsoberequirediftheechosoundersoftwareisupdated.Refertothesoftwarerelease
note.
Basedontheparametersdeterminedfromthecalibration,propercorrectivevaluesareinto
theechosoundersoftwareasoperationalparameters.
Note
Calibrationmustbetakenseriously.Thenalvericationofcorrectinstallationcanonly
bedoneduringcalibrationatsea.Toachievethebestresults,thecalibrationmustbe
plannedanddonecarefully.

Cleaningandpaintingthetransducerface
Duringnormaluse,thetransducerissubjectedtobiologicalfouling.Ifthismarinegrowthis
excessive,itwillreducetheoverallperformanceofyoursystem.
Thetransducerhasnotbeendesignedwithanyprotectionagainstbiologicalfouling.
Wheneveropportunityarise,typicallywhenthevesselisdry-docked,thetransducerface
mustbecleanedforshellsandothermarinegrowth.
•Becareful
sothatyoudonotaccidentallymakecutsorinictotherphysicaldamageto
thetransducerface.
•Removebiologicalfoulingcarefullyusingaplasticbrush,asuitablesyntheticdetergent
andfreshwater.Biologicalmaterialwhichisstronglyrootedinthesubstratecanbe
removedcarefullywithapieceofwoodorplastic.
•Donotusehigh-pressurewater,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducer.
Anti-foulingpaintmaybeappliedtothetransducerface.Tominimizethenegative
acousticaleffectsthelayerofanti-foulingpaintmustbeasthinaspossible.

Theanti-foulingpaintwillreducetheacousticalperformanceofthetransducer .The
surfaceroughnessofthetransducersubstrateandthethicknessofthepaintmayalso

Marinegrowth(biologicalfouling)onthetransducerfacereducestheperformance.For
thisreason,itisimportanttokeepthetransducerfaceclean.Everytimeyourvesselis
indrydock,youmustremovethemarinegrowth.Atthesametime,youmustinspect
thetransducercloselyforphysicaldamage.

Context
Duringnormaluse,thetransducerissubjectedtobiologicalfouling.Ifthismarinegrowthis
excessive,itwillreducetheoverallperformanceofyoursystem.Wheneveropportunity
arise,typicallywhenthevesselisdry-docked,thetransducerfacemustbecleanedfor
shellsandothermarinegrowth.
Itisimportanttocheckthetransducerforphysicaldamage.Anycracks,fracturesorholes
intheredprotectivecoatingmayresultinawaterleak,andaleakmaycauseirreparable
damagetothetransducer.
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateinstrument.Incorrectactionsmaydamage
thetransducerbeyondrepair.Observethesetransducerhandlingrules:
•Donotactivatethetransducerwhenitisoutofthewater.
•Donothandlethetransducerroughly.Avoidimpacts.
•Donotexposethetransducertodirectsunlightorexcessiveheat.
•Donotusehigh-pressurewater,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean

Procedure
1Allowforsufcientaccesstocleanandinspecttheentiresurfaceofthetransducer.
2Removebiologicalfoulingcarefullyusingaplasticbrush,asuitablesyntheticdetergent
andfreshwater.
Biologicalmaterialwhichisstronglyrootedinthesubstratecanberemovedcarefully
withapieceofwoodorplastic.Ifrequired,youcanalsousecitricacid.Apply,leaveit
workingforseveralhours,andrinsethoroughlywithfreshwater.
Note
Donotusehigh-pressurewater ,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducer .Donotdamagetheouterprotectiveskinofthetransducerface.
