TheSimradC-Allisasinglebeamtransducerdesignedforshndingapplications.The
transducerbodyincludesfourdifferenttransducerelementsprovidingfouroperational
frequencies:38,70,120and200kHz.Thebeamwidthis18degreesateachnominal
operatingfrequency.
Itisawell-establishedfact
thattheechosounderoperating
frequencyisimportantforgood
results.Thisisbecausethe
echostrengthofdifferentsh
speciesvarieswithfrequency.
Someshspeciesareeasier
tondwithahighfrequency
thanalowone,andviceversa.
Thisisalsoimportantifyouare
goingtondsmallerspecies,
suchasshrimporkrill.
Atthesametime,lower
frequenciesgenerallyhavelongerrange.Alowfrequencyallowsyoutondbothsh
andthebottomwhenworkingindeepwater.
Forthesereasons,manyechosoundersystemsareequippedwithmorethanone
transducer.Somepeopleprefertwotransducerstoworkwithtwodifferentfrequencies,
otherswantmore.Thisincreasesthepriceoftheechosounder,andentailsincreased
installationcosts.
TheC‑Alltransducerisalong-awaitedsolutionformanyusers.Withfourdifferent
operatingfrequenciesinasingletransducerbody,yougetacompletefrequencyrange.
ThetransducerisalsospeciallyadaptedtoourWideBandTransceiver(WBT).This
meansthatyou–withonlyafewmainparts-canassembleaprofessionalsingle-beam
echosoundersuitableforalltypesofshing.
TheSimradC-Alloffersalargebandwidth.Thisprovidesanerangeresolution,which
isimportantforsingleshdetectionandtargetstrengthmeasurements.
Thetransducerisnormallymountedushwiththehullplating.Aclampingringisused
tosecurethetransducerbodytoamountingring.Themountingringisweldedtothe
bottomplate.Thetransducercablepenetratesthehullusingacablegland.Thecable
glandconsistsofabushing,rubbergasket,washersandapackingnipple.
Thetransducercanalsobeushmountedatthebottomofablisteroradropkeel.

Marinegrowth(biologicalfouling)onthetransducerfacereducestheperformance.For
thisreason,itisimportanttokeepthetransducerfaceclean.Everytimeyourvesselisin
drydock,youmustremovethemarinegrowth.Atthesametime,youmustinspectthe
transducercloselyforphysicaldamage.

Context
Duringnormaluse,thetransducerissubjectedtobiologicalfouling.Ifthismarine

irreparabledamagetothetransducer.
Atransducermustalwaysbehandledasadelicateinstrument.Incorrectactionsmay

Biologicalmaterialwhichisstronglyrootedinthesubstratecanberemoved
carefullywithapieceofwoodorplastic.Ifrequired,youcanalsousecitricacid.
Apply,leaveitworkingforseveralhours,andrinsethoroughlywithfreshwater.
Note
Donotusehigh-pressurewater ,sandblasting,metaltoolsorstrongsolventstoclean
thetransducer .Donotdamagetheouterprotectiveskinofthetransducerface.
3Allowthetransducersurfacetodry.
4Doathoroughvisualinspectionofthetransducer.
Checkfordents,scratches,holesorotherdamagetothesurface.

3Abradethetransducersurfaceusingasandingpaperwith240inchgritsize.
Donotexceedasurfaceroughness(Rmax)of35micronsasthiscaninuencethe
transducerperformance.
4Removealldust.
5Applytheprimer,andletitdry.
6Applythepaint.
Observetheinstructionsprovidedbythepaintmanufacturer.Useairlessspray.
Applytheminimumspeciedlmthicknesspercoatandforthecompletelayer.
Itisnotpossibletomeasuredrylmthicknessontransducersurface.Youmust
thereforeuseawetlmgaugetofrequentlymeasurethepaintthickness.
Note
Westronglyrecommendthatyoudonot useapaintbrushand/oraroller.
