In dieser Betriebsanleitung werden folgende
spezielle Begriffe, Abkürzungen und Symbole
verwendet.
Akku – Akkumulator
BEC –„Battery Eliminating Circuit“ Empfänger-
stromversorgung aus dem Antriebsakku.
EMK – Elektromagnetische Kraft
LiPo – Lithium-Ionen-Polymer Akku
– Hinweiß
– Achtung - wichtig!
2. Sicherheitshinweise


Verletzungsgefahr! Beschädigungsge-
fahr! Umsichtig vorgehen!
Der POWERJAZZ darf nur betrieben
werden, wenn Sach- und Personen-
schäden ausgeschlossen sind.
Sobald Antriebsakku und Motor mit dem
POWERJAZZ verbunden sind ist höchste
Vorsicht geboten! Der Motor kann unver-
mittelt anlaufen! (z.B. durch Fehlbedienung
oder elektrischen Defekt)
Fortfliegende Teile, wie eine Luftschraube,
können erhebliche Verletzungen verur-
sachen!
Ein beschädigter POWERJAZZ kann
fehlerhaft funktionieren oder versagen
und darf deshalb nicht weiter verwendet
werden!
Eine Verlängerung der Akku- oder Motor-
kabel sollte nicht erfolgen! Ansonsten ist
die Einhaltung gesetzlicher Vorschriften nicht
gewährleistet.
Der POWERJAZZ darf nur aus NiCd-,
NiMH-, Lipo- oder Blei-Akkus gespeist

werden! Ein Betrieb an Netzgeräten ist
nicht zulässig!
Der POWERJAZZ darf in keinem Falle eine
Verbindung zum 230V Wechselstromnetz
haben!
Der POWERJAZZ darf nur in Umgebungen
betrieben werden, in denen keine Ent-
ladung von statischer Elektrizität auftritt!
Strommessungen dürfen nur mit einem
Zangenamperemeter gemacht werden!
Durch eingeschleifte Messgeräte oder Shunts
kann der POWERJAZZ beschädigt werden.
Der POWERJAZZ muss stets ausreichend
gekühlt werden! Dies ist besonders
wichtig bei Akkus mit hoher Kapazität.
Nicht den Akku vom POWERJAZZ abzie-
hen, so lange der Motor noch dreht!
3. Eigenschaften des POWERJAZZ
Der POWERJAZZ ist ein Drehzahlsteller für
bürstenlose Elektromotoren. Er arbeitet sensor-
los, d.h. es wird kein Sensorsignal vom Motor
benötigt.
Der POWERJAZZ verfügt über ein sehr
feinfühliges Regelverhalten. Es gibt kein Rucken
beim Anlaufen. Er verfügt auch über eine auto-
matische Einstellung des Motor-Timings. Es ist
keine manuelle Einstellung nötig.
Sicherheitsfunktionen wie: Anlaufschutz, Über-
temperaturschutz, Strombegrenzung und Tief-
entladungsschutz sind vorhanden. Die Unter-
spannungsabschaltung wird der verwendeten
Zellenzahl automatisch angepasst.
Die EMK-Bremse ist abschaltbar. Durch den
aktiven Freilauf ist der POWERJAZZ unbegrenzt
teillastfest.
Der POWERJAZZ ist zur besseren Störunter-
drückung mit einem Optokoppler ausgestattet
und hat kein BEC. Er benötigt daher eine
separate Empfängerstromversorgung.
Ein akustisches Einschaltsignal zeigt an, ob der
Betrieb im NiCd/NiMH oder Lipo – Modus erfolgt.

3.1 Einstellungen des POWERJAZZ.
Im Neuzustand sind folgende Parameter vor-
eingestellt.
Bremse: Aus
Akkutyp: Lipo
Akkuleer: Abregeln
Ansprechverhalten: Weich
Timing: Auto
Drehzahlregelung: Aus
Knüppelpositionen: Auto (APM)
Sollen die Parameter verändert werden, so ist
dies ausschließlich mit der KONTRONIK
ProgCARD (Best.Nr. 9305) möglich.
3.2 Teillastfestigkeit und aktiver Freilauf
Um den Wirkungsgrad im Teillastbereich zu
optimieren, verfügt der POWERJAZZ Dreh-
zahlsteller über den aktiven Freilauf. Er
verbessert den Wirkungsgrad im Teillastbetrieb
und verringert so die Erwärmung des
Drehzahlstellers. Der aktive Freilauf wird bei zu
wenig Last abgeschaltet. Dies kann zu einem
kleinen Drehzahlsprung führen.
Der POWERJAZZ ist durch seinen aktiven
Freilauf voll teillastfest. Dies gilt, solange bei
Vollgas und Volllast der Akkustrom die zulässige
Dauerstromgrenze nicht überschreitet.
3.3 Steckkontakte
Mit diesem Drehzahlsteller haben Sie ein hoch-
wertiges Produkt erworben. Hochwertige
Steckkontakte sowie niederohmig verlötete
Akkus sollten daher obligatorisch sein.
3.4 Sensorlose Kommmutierung:
Der POWERJAZZ arbeitet ohne Sensoren im
Motor. Eine Veränderung der Kommmutierung
erfolgt automatisch. POWERJAZZ kann jedoch,
ohne dass sich der Motor dreht, dessen
Rotorposition nicht erkennen. Aus diesem Grund
ist es möglich, dass beim Anlaufen der Motor
minimal schwingt.

4. Anschluss der Kabel
Motor-Kabel (gelb)
Die Reihenfolge der Motoranschlusskabel ist
beliebig. Tauschen zweier beliebiger Motor-
kabel ändert die Motordrehrichtung
Trotz Verpolschutz sollten an den
Akkukabeln immer verpolungssichere
Stecker verwendet werden!

5. Abgleich auf die Fernsteuerung
Der POWERJAZZ befindet sich im Auslieferungszustand im APM (Auto-Programmier-Modus), d.h.
er gleicht sich selbst auf die Knüppelwege der Fernsteuerung ab:
a. Den Motor an den POWERJAZZ anschließen.
b. Sender einschalten - Gasknüppel auf Anschlag EMK-Bremse stellen.
c. Fernsteuerkabel des POWERJAZZ in die gewünschte Empfängerbuchse
einstecken.
d. Empfänger- und Antriebsakku an den POWERJAZZ anschließen.
e. Es werden 3 bzw. 6 Pieptöne vom Motor abgegeben.
f. Vor dem Start oder beim Start für mind. 1sec. Vollgas geben.
g. Fertig
6. Fehlerbeseitigung
Unerwartete Motorabschaltung:
•Starke Störungen der empfangenen
Fernsteuerimpulse.
Den Empfänger und die Antenne mit
mehr Abstand vom POWERJAZZ und
Motor einbauen. Den Ringkern Best.-Nr.
9700 verwenden.
•Übertemperatur:
Für bessere Kühlung des POWERJAZZ
sorgen
•Unterbrechung der Spannungsversorgung
(Wackelkontakt):
Nur kontaktsichere Stecker verwenden,
z. B. KONTRONIK-Silberstecker Best.-Nr.
9010 oder Goldkontakt-Stecker.

8. Recycling
Elektronische Bauteile
dürfen nicht in den Hausmüll
geraten, sondern müssen
nach der Gebrauchsdauer
sach- und umweltgerecht entsorgt werden!
Die nationalen und regionalen Abfall-
bestimmungen müssen befolgt werden und
sind in den dafür vorgesehenen Systemen
der Getrenntentsorgung zu geben.

Wir gewähren im Rahmen der gesetzlichen
Bestimmungen für die Dauer von 24
Monaten ab Kaufdatum die Funktion des in
dieser Anleitung beschriebenen Produktes
in Hinsicht auf auftretende Mängel, die auf
Fabrikationsfehler oder Materialfehler
zurückzuführen sind. Alle weitergehenden
Ansprüche, insbesondere für Personen-
oder Sachschäden und deren Folgen sind
ausgeschlossen. Bei Schäden durch
unsachgemäße Behandlung besteht kein
Gewährleistungsanspruch.
Zur Anerkennung der Gewährleistung muss
ein maschinenerstellter Originalkaufbeleg
(auf dem das Produkt, das Kaufdatum und
die Bezugsquelle erkennbar sind) beigelegt
sein. Eine genaue Fehlerbeschreibung ist
ebenso notwendig. (Verwendeter Motor,
Luftschraube, Anzahl und Typ der Akkus.

Ausfall etwas außergewöhnliches
bemerkt?).
Bitte vergessen Sie nicht die korrekte
Rücksendeadresse anzugeben.
Es werden generell keine Kostenvoran-
schläge erstellt. Rücksendung von irrepa-
rablen Produkten nur auf ausdrücklichen
Wunsch und auf Kosten des Kunden.

2. Safety instructions


Risk of injury! Risk of damage! Proceed
with care!
The POWERJAZZ may be operated only, if
there is no risk to objects or persons!
As soon as the drive battery and the
motor are connected to the POWERJAZZ,
extreme caution must be taken! The
motor could start up without warning!
(e.g. due to faulty operating or electrical
defect).
Ejected propeller parts and even an
electric motor can cause serious injuries!
A damaged POWERJAZZ can function
faultily or malfunction and may therefore
not be used anymore!
The battery and motor cables of the
POWERJAZZ should not be extended!
Confirming to legal regulations is other-
wise not given anymore.
The POWERJAZZ may be powered only
by NiCd, NiMH, LiPo or lead batteries!
Running on main adapters is permitted!
The POWERJAZZ may not be connected
to the 110V or 230V AC network!
The POWERJAZZ may be operated only in
an environment, where there is no
discharging of static electricity!
Current readings may be done only whit a
clip-on ammeter! Looped-in measuring
devices may damage the POWERJAZZ.
The POWERJAZZ always needs to be
sufficiently cooled! This is especially
important, when using batteries with higher
capacity.
The POWERJAZZ may not be
disconnected from the battery as long as
the motor is still rotating.
3. Features of the POWERJAZZ ESC
The POWERJAZZ is designed for brushless mo-
tors. It works without sensors in the motor and
has very sensitive control characteristics and a
smooth start up! The POWERJAZZ has an auto-
matic adjustment of motor timing - no manual
adjustment is needed.
Several functions as start up protection at power
up, over temperature protection or over current
limitation are implemented. Auto adjustment of
the under voltage cut off according to the cell
count is standard.
The POWERJAZZ has unlimited part load capa-
bility due to the active free wheeling circuit.
The POWERJAZZ has an optocuppler for
interference suppression and no BEC, so an
additional receiver battery is necessary.
An acoustic start up signal, with shows whether
NiCd / NiMH or LiPo Mode is active. An audible
signal monitors the adjusting.

3.1 Settings
The POWERJAZZ comes with this parameters:
Brake: off
Battery type: Lipo
Empty Battery: slow down
Start up: soft
Timing: auto
RPM Control: off
Stick positions: auto (APM)
For changing this parameters use the
KONTRONIK ProgCARD (Order # 9305).
3.2 Part load capability and the active free
wheeling circuit
To optimize the efficiency at part load the
POWERJAZZ contains a special circuitry, called
active free wheeling circuit. It increases the
efficiency of the ESC at part load and so
reduces the heating. The active free wheeling
circuit can’t be used with very little load. There it
is switched off. This can result in a little
discontinuity of the motor RPM.
The POWERJAZZ can be operated unlimited in
part load conditions if at full throttle and full load
the battery current not exceeds the
POWERJAZZ continuous current limit.
3.3 Connectors
With this POWERJAZZ ESC you’ve bought a
high quality product. To keep it, the use of high
quality connectors and well soldered batteries
with low resistant are mandatory. If any
questions are left, especially on the motor current
of your actual application please feel free to
contact the KONTRONIK service.
3.4 Sensorless Commutation
The POWERJAZZ works without sensors in the
motor. Therefore the commutation of the motor
will be optimized to the application auto-
matically. But this means also that the
POWERJAZZ can’t t detect the motor position at
zero RPM. Therefore it is possible that the motor
will oscillate a little bit when started.

4. Connection of the cables
Motor cables (blue - green - red)
The sequence of the motor cables is arbitrary.
Changing any 2 of the motor cables will reverse
the motor rotation direction.
Even with reverse polarity protection use
only polarized connectors for the battery
cables!

Receiver cable (brown/red/orange)
red = plus receiver
black = minus receiver
orange = impulse receiver

5. Quick Start:
The ESC comes with an APM (Auto-Programming-Mode), so it will adapt itself to the throttle
positions of the RC. Proceed as follows:
a) Connect the motor to the POWERJAZZ speed control.
b) Plug the POWERJAZZ ESC in the appropriate receiver socket.
c) Switch on the Tx with the throttle control to off.
d) Connect the battery to the POWERJAZZ speed control.
e) 3 or 6 beep sounds from the motor.
f) Give 1 sec. full throttle or start with full throttle.
g) Ready.
In all other modes the stick ways are only programmed once and have not to be adapted at
each start again.
6. Troubleshooting
Unexpected motor cut off:
•Strong interference with the Rx.
Install the Rx and the antenna with more
distance from ESC and motor. Use torodial
core KONTRONIK #9700.
•Over temperature:
Improve the cooling of the speed control.
•Interruption of the power:
Only use high quality connectors as
KONTRONIK silver connector #9010 or
gold connectors.

10. Warranty
We guarantee the function of the product
described in this manual in respect to apparent
defects that can be traced to production faults
or material defects under the stipulations of
legal regulations for the duration of 24 month
following the purchase date. All further claims,
in particular for personal injury or property
damage and their consequences, are
excluded. No warrantee claims exist for
damage due to improper handling.
For acceptance of guarantee an original
machine-printed sales receipt (that shows the
product, the sales date and the source) needs
to be submitted along with a precise fault
description (motor used, propeller used,
number and type of batteries. When did the
fault occur? Was anything unusual before the
malfunction? aso.) and don’t forget the
correct return address.
Generally no cost estimated is made. The
return of non-reparable products is done only
on the explicit wish of the customer and at his
expense.
