Note:BeforeyouconnectthemicroSTATIONtoyour
computerviaUSB,youmustusethemicroSTATION
applicationinstallertoinstalltheKORGUSB‐MIDI
DriverTools.
Using the microSTATION application installer
ThemicroSTATIONapplicationinstallerwillinstallthe
KORGUSB‐MIDIDriverToolsandthemicroSTATION
Editor/Plug‐InEditor.
1. Inserttheincludedaccessorydiscintoyouroptical
discdrive.
Normallythe“microSTATIONApplication
Installer”willstartupautomatically.
Ifyourcomputerissetsotheinstallerdoesnotrun
automatically,double‐click“KorgSetup.exe”onthe
accessorydisc.
2. Fromthelist,selecttheapplicationsthatyouwant
toinstall,andclick[Install].
Theapplicationsyouselectedwillbegintheinstalla‐
tionprocess.
IfyouwanttoconnectthemicroSTATIONtoyour
computerviatheUSBport,youmustinstallthe
KorgUSB‐MIDIDriverTools.Thenfromwithinthe
KorgUSB‐MIDIDriverTools,youwillneedto
installtheKorgUSB‐MIDIdriver.(“Installingthe
KORGUSB‐MIDIdriver”onpage 4)
3. Followtheon‐screeninstructionstoinstallthe
software.
Whenyouclickthe[Install]buttonforthemicroS‐
TATIONEditor/Plug‐InEditorinstep2,the“micro‐
STATIONEditor/Plug‐InEditorInstaller”dialog
boxwillappear.
Selectandinstallalldesiredcomponents,suchas,
theEditor(Standalone),Plug‐InEditor(VST),and/
orPlug‐InEditor(RTAS).
Forexampleifyouwanttoinstallthestand‐alone
version,click[InstallStandaloneApplication].
Followtheon‐screeninstructionstoproceedwith
theinstallation.
Iftheinstallationwassuccessful,click[Close].
“microSTATIONEditor/Plug‐InEditorInstaller”
willappear.
Nextyouwillinstalltheplug‐inversion(s)thatyou
wanttouse.Usingtheproceduredescribedabove,
beginwithstep1andinstalltheplug‐inversion(s)
thatyouwanttouse.
Ifyoudon’twanttoinstalltheVSTorRTASplug‐in
version,click[ExitSetup]toendtheinstallation.
Whenyou’vefinishedinstallingtheapplication(s)
thatyouwant,click[ExitSetup]toexittheinstaller.

4. Whenyou’veinstalledalloftheselectedsoftware,
exittheinstaller.
Installing the KORG USB-MIDI driver
UsetheKORGUSB‐MIDIDriverToolstoinstallthe
KORGUSB‐MIDIdriver.
Beforeyoucontinue,youmustfinishinstallingthe
KORGUSB‐MIDIDriverToolsinyourcomputer.
1. UseaUSBcabletoconnectyourcomputer’sUSB
porttothemicroSTATION’sUSBconnector.Then
power‐onthemicroSTATION.
Whenyourcomputerfirstdetectsthatthe
microSTATIONisconnected,theWindowsdefault
driverwillbeinstalledautomatically.However
sincethisdriverisnottheKorgUSB‐MIDIdriver,
itcannotbeusedcorrectly.
Note:IfyouareusingWindowsXPorWindows
Vista,thedrivermustbeinstalledseparatelyfor
eachUSBport.IfyouconnectthemicroSTATIONto
aUSBportusedtoconnectthemicroSTATION
otherthantheportthatyoupreviouslyused,you’ll
needtoinstalltheKORGUSB‐MIDIdriveragain
usingthesameprocedurelistedabove.
2. Fromthetaskbar,click[Start][All
Programs][KORG][KORGUSB‐MIDIDriver
Tools][InstallKORGUSB‐MIDIdevice].
Thesetuputilitywillstart.
3. Followtheon‐screeninstructionstoinstallthe
KORGUSB‐MIDIdriver.
Duringtheinstallation,ifadialogboxregarding
digitalsignaturesappearswithamessagesaying
“....hasnotpassedWindowslogotesting,”simply
click[Continue]toproceed.

Ifyouareunabletoproceedwiththeinstallation,it’s
possiblethatyourcomputerhasbeensettoprohibit
installationofunsigneddrivers.Checkthesettings
ofyourcomputerasdescribedin“Allowinginstalla‐
tionofdriversthatarenotdigitallysigned.”
4. Afteryou’veinstalledtheKORGUSB‐MIDI
driver,exittheinstaller.
Ifyouareaskedwhetheryouwanttorestart,choose
[Yes]torestartyourcomputer.
Formoreaboutinstallation,setup,oruninstallation
oftheKORGUSB‐MIDIdriver,refertotheinstalla‐
tionmanual(HTML).
Toviewthemanual,choose[Start][AllPro‐
grams][KORG][KORGUSB‐MIDIDriver

Allowing installation of drivers that are not
digitally signed (Windows only)
Ifthecomputeryou’reusinghasbeensettoforbidthe
installationofanydriversthatarenotdigitallysigned,
youwon’tbeabletoinstalltheKORGUSB‐MIDI
driver.Proceedasfollowstochangethissettingsothat
you’llbeabletoinstallthedrivers.
1. Fromthetaskbar,click[Start][ControlPanel]to
accessthecontrolpanel.
2. Inthecontrolpanelwindow,double‐click
[System],andthenclickthe[Hardware]tab.
3. In“Drivers,”click[DriverSigning].
4. Inthe“WhatactiondoyouwantWindowsto
take?”area,choose[Ignore]or[Warn],andthen
click[OK].
Ifnecessary,youcanchangethissettingbacktoits
originalstateafteryou’veinstalledtheKORGUSB‐
MIDIdriver.

powered‐on.
•TheKorgUSB‐MIDIdriverisinstalledfortheUSB
portyou’llbeusing.
•ThemicroSTATIONEditor(stand‐aloneversion)is
installedonyourcomputer.
1. StartupthemicroSTATIONEditor.
Windows
Inthetaskbar,clickthe[Start]buttonandthen[All
Programs].Fromthemenu,choose“KORG”–
“microSTATION”–“microSTATIONEditor”tostart
uptheeditor.
Alternatively,youcannavigatetothe“KORG”
folder–“microSTATION”folder,anddouble‐click
the“microSTATIONEditor.exe”iconlocatedthere.
The“KORG”folderwillbeinthelocationthatyou
selectedwheninstallingthesoftware.Bydefault,it
willbeinthe“ProgramFiles”folder.

Navigatetothe“Applications”folder–“KORG”
folder–“microSTATION”folder,anddoubleclick
the“microSTATIONEditor”icon.
Navigatetothe“Applications”folder–“KORG”

•Whenyoustartup,datawillbetransmittedand
receivedbetweenthemicroSTATIONandthe
microSTATIONEditor.ThemicroSTATION’sdisplay
willindicate“Nowtransmitting”andthe
microSTATIONEditorwillindicate
“Synchronizing...”whilethesynchronizationdatais
exchanged.
2. Clickthe[A]selectorattheleftsideoftherealtime
controls.
Theindicationsofthefourknobswillbe[CUTOFF],
[RESONANCE],[EGINTENSITY],and[EG
RELEASE].
3. Usethefourknobsoftherealtimecontrolstovary
thesound.Usingthemousetomovetheon‐screen
knobswillhavethesameresultasturningthefour
knobsonthemicroSTATIONitself.

Global/Media mode settings
on the microSTATION
IfthemicroSTATIONdoesnotfunctioncorrectlywith
yourcomputer,checkthefollowingsettingsonthe
microSTATIONitself.
“Local Ctrl” settings
TheMIDIsoftwareonyourcomputermighthavean
EchoBackfunctionwheremessagesthatarereceived
atMIDIIN/USBareretransmittedwithoutchange
fromMIDIOUT/USB.
IfyourMIDIsoftware’sEchoBackisturnedonwhen
themicroSTATIONisbi‐directionallyconnectedwith
yourcomputer,themicroSTATION’sinternalsound
generatorwillreceiveduplicatemessages(the
internallygeneratedmessagesaswellasthemessages
receivedviaecho‐back),whichwillcauseproblems
suchaseachnotebeingsoundedtwice.
Insuchcases,youcansolvetheproblembyturningthe
microSTATION’slocalcontrolsettingOffsothatthe
signalrouteisinternallydisconnectedinsidethe
microSTATION.
Withthefactorysettings,themicroSTATION’slocal
controlsetting(“LocalCtrl”)isturnedOn.

Note:WhenusingthemicroSTATIONbyitself,leave
thelocalcontrolsetting(“LocalCtrl”)turnedOn.Ifthis
isOff,nosoundwillbeproducedwhenyouplaythe
microSTATION’skeyboard.

automaticallysetthemicroSTATION’slocalcontrol
settingtotheappropriatestatewhenthesoftware
startsup.
MIDI Filter “SysEx” setting
Withthefactorysettings,themicroSTATIONissetsothat
itwillnottransmitorreceivesystemexclusivemessages
(“SysEx”Off).(“microSTATIONParameterguide”on
page 63)
SincethemicroSTATIONEditor/Plug‐InEditoruse
numerousMIDIsystemexclusivemessagesfor
communicatingwiththemicroSTATION,thissettingof
themicroSTATIONwillautomaticallybeturnedOn
whenthesoftwarestartsup.
IfyouareusingaMIDIdeviceoranapplicationother
thanthemicroSTATIONEditor/Plug‐InEditoranddonot
wantsystemexclusivemessagestobetransmittedand
receivedbetweenitandthemicroSTATION,you’llneed
tousethemicroSTATIONtomanuallyturnthissetting
On.
Ifyouperformanyofthefollowingoperationsonthe
microSTATIONafterthemicroSTATIONEditor/
Plug‐InEditorhasfinishedstartingup,subsequent
communicationwillnotbepossible.
•TurnMIDIFilter“SysEx”Off
•OnthemicroSTATION,usethe“LoadPCG”
commandwith“AllPCG”or“Globalsetting.”
IfthemicroSTATIONEditor/Plug‐InEditorbecomes
unabletocommunicatewiththemicroSTATION,please
