GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
KTMED Inc. Model OXYPALM Operator’s Manual 3
This section contains general safety information related to use of OXYPALM. To ensure continued safe
equipment usage, carefully read the information in this section.
Warnings, cautions and notes are used throughout this manual to provide additional information to its user.
Particular attention must be paid to all warnings, cautions and notes of this manual.
※
Warning
"Warning" is used to instruct the user that if an operating procedure, practice, etc. are not followed,
personal injury may result.
z
Read this manual carefully before operating the OXYPALM.
z
Possible explosion hazard. Don't use this unit in the presence of flammable anesthetics.
z
If OXYPALM is used with other electrical equipment such like ultrasound surgical at the same time,
it may breakdown.
※
Caution
The purpose of a "Caution" is to inform the user of an operating procedure, practice, etc. which, if not
followed, could result in minor personal injuries or possible damage to the equipment.
You should use sensors supplied by KTMED Inc. If any other device is used, it may damage to the unit.
※
Note
A “NOTE” is used to inform the user of ways to install, operate and maintain the product. This information
is important but not related to hazard.
z
Inaccurate measurements may result when the sensor sites are exposed to excessive amounts of
patient movement.
z
Don’t place OXYPALM sensor on the same extremity where a blood pressure cuff, an arterial line
or intra-vascular line has been placed. The occlusion of the blood flow during blood pressure
determinations may affect saturation readings.
z
When you simultaneously measure blood pressure, attach the sensor to a different arm's finger as
shown in Figure 1. Do not place the sensor with NIBP cuff and catheter.

GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
KTMED Inc. Model OXYPALM Operator’s Manual 4
[Figure 1: Sensor placement]
z
SpO2 measurements may be affected in the presence of any high-intensity light source. Do not
expose the sensor to an operating lamp, a direct X-ray light or strong light. Shield the sensor area
(with a surgical towel, for example) if necessary.
z
Do not use the unit under conditions of shocks and vibrations. Do not use it, either, with the patient
connected to such medical electrical equipment as a cardiac pacemaker and other electrical
stimulators. And keep away from MRI, CT etc. It may cause burning and adversely affect MRI
measurement.
z
Do not disassemble or open the unit when you find something wrong with it. Please contact KTMED
INC. or our sale representative directly. We do not charge you in this case. If you do not contact us
even after finding something wrong with the unit, you might face a complicated problem.
z
Use only KTMED-supplied sensors. These sensors are manufactured to meet the accuracy
specifications for pulse oximeter. Using other manufacturers’ sensors may cause improper pulse
oximeter performance. And do not use a damaged sensor.
z
Remove the manicure and any dirt from the patient’s nails.
z
Follow local governing ordinances and recycling instructions regarding disposal or recycling of
device components, including batteries.
z
Inaccurate measurements can be caused by :
- Incorrect application of the sensor;
- Placement of the sensor on an extremity with a NIBP cuff, arterial catheter, or intra-vascular line;
- Patient’s moving.
z
Loss of pulse signal can occur for following reasons:
Too tight sensor;
Inflation of a blood pressure cuff on the same extremity as the one where the sensor is
attached.
Arterial occlusion proximal to the sensor.
z
This equipment generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and
used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to other devices in the
vicinity. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation.
If this equipment does cause harmful interference to other devices, which can be determined by

SECTION 1 – Instruction
KTMED Inc. Model OXYPALM Operator’s Manual 7
1-1 Function & Properties
OXYPALM, which KTMED Inc. makes, is a device to help monitor the changes in the physical state of a
patient by measuring the level of oxygen saturation in the blood or pulse rate with an oxygen sensor (light
sensor).
Once the sensor is connected to a patient, it works automatically and the result comes into sight at a
glance, enabling the patient to receive medical service conveniently.
OXYPALM needs no expertise to use. It is designed with the purpose that once the sensor is connected to
a patient, it works on its own, and that doctors and medical staff can analyze the result with ease.
OXYPALM stores 72hours of data and transfers the data to PC. There is PC software to analyze the data.
1-2 Applications
OXYPALM is indicated for use in measuring and displaying functional oxygen saturation and pulse rate for
neonate, pediatric and adult. OXYPALM is intended for spot-checking and continuous monitoring in hospital,
clinics, ambulatory, home and EMS (Emergency medical service) environment.
1-3 Composition
OXYPALM is composed of Main body (indicator and adjuster), sensor and other related peripherals. The
sensor includes two sources of light and one light detector.
