Titan 808 Instruction Sheet
Thank you for choosing Kudos.
Please read through these instructions before setting up and using your new Titan 808
loudspeakers.
Assembly
The Titan 808 loudspeaker is made up of two separate cabinets for each loudspeaker
unit and are marked serial number suffix A for one and B for the other. The bass section
should be placed into position first and the supplied spikes, with locknuts, inserted into
the plinth. This bass section should be then levelled using the spikes and then the
locknuts tightened to ensure the unit is stable with no rocking motion. If you have a
wood, or laminate floor your dealer should be able to supply floor protectors to avoid
spike damage to your floor.
Once the bass section is securely in place, insert the aluminium connecting dowels into
the three indents on the top surface, ensuring that the tapered end is uppermost. The
upper cabinet containing the mid-bass and tweeter units can be carefully lowered down
so the connecters are inserted into the matching indents on the bottom of the cabinet.
Care should be taken when carrying out this operation to avoid damage to the cabinet
and also not to trap fingers! There is a little play on these locators so that the front baffles
can be perfectly aligned.
If in any doubt ask your dealer or a friend to help you with this.
Connections
The Titan 808 loudspeakers can be either passively or actively driven. In a passive
system the output from a power amplifier is passed through the crossover housed inside
the loudspeakers. Titan 808 loudspeakers are configured from the factory for passive
operation.
To maintain correct phase make sure to connect the red “+” amplifier connection to the
corresponding red “+” passive input speaker connection and the black “-“ amplifier
connection to the corresponding black “-“ passive input speaker connection.
Your Titan 808 loudspeaker is fitted with WBT Nextgen binding posts on the top and
bottom cabinets and the crossover components for each section are linked to these.
This allows you to bi amp the loudspeaker with the bass section driven separately or bi
wire from one amplifier to the two sections. For those preferring to use single wire
operation high quality Chord Signature links have been supplied to connect the upper
and lower sections together. Again care should be taken to ensure the red “+” and black
“-“connections are linked to maintain correct phase and that the cable direction markers
are maintained throughout.
If you wish to use your Titan 808 loudspeakers in an active configuration you will need
one amplifier channel for each drive unit in the speakers and a suitable, Kudos
Approved, active crossover. Incorrect connection may result in serious damage to your
loudspeakers. For further information contact your dealer / distributor.
If in any doubt consult your supplying dealer.
Positioning
The Titan loudspeaker has been designed to work in a wide range of rooms and should
be easy to site. As a general guide they should be placed 2m apart and at least the
same distance from the main listening position. Titan is a ported design but is ported
into the Fixed Boundary Gap between the two cabinets to minimise the effects of room
boundaries.
However in most circumstances we would recommend that the cabinets are placed at
least 45cm away from corners. Moving a loudspeaker closer to room boundaries may
increase bass response, but may cause colouration and unevenness in the mid-band.
All loudspeakers require a running in period and we would recommend you do not
decide upon the final positioning until your loudspeakers have had at least 100 hours of
use. Once you have become more familiar with your new loudspeakers a degree of
experimentation with their placement can bring about significant improvements. Your
loudspeakers will not be fully run in until they have had approximately 300 hours of use,
but changes will be smaller and more subtle as use increases.
Power Handling
Providing that you do not run your amplifier into “clipping” (sounding distorted or
strained) your Kudos loudspeakers should handle the power from most amplifiers in a
domestic setting. As a rough guide we recommend amplifiers with a power rating of
between 25 and 250 watts per channel. Remember you are much more likely to damage
your drive units by using an underpowered amplifier than an overpowered one.
General Care
Loudspeakers are inherently reliable and require little maintenance. The cabinets are
finished in real wood veneers and can be cleaned with a lightly damp lint free cloth. The
front baffle is coated with Nextel paint and a dry sponge, or lint free cloth should be used
to clean this surface.
We do not recommend the use of anything else or any cleaning products on the Nextel
parts.
Please note that the wood veneers will mature and darken with time.
Service and Warranty
Loudspeakers rarely require service, but should the need arise contact your dealer or
local distributor. There are no user serviceable parts inside. We would advise you to
retain all packaging material in case you need to ship, or transport your loudspeakers in
the future.
All Titan models are guaranteed against faulty components and defective materials for a
period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Please return the enclosed warranty
card with your dealers stamp and proof of purchase to activate your extended guarantee.
Please note that the warranty does not cover damage due to accident, or misuse and is
restricted to the original purchaser. Some restrictions do apply. Carriage is at the
owner’s expense.
The warranty is restricted to the original purchaser and does not affect your statutory
rights.
