INFRARED HEATING

ETHERMA infrared heaters are versatile direct heating devices.
They are characterised, in particular, by their elegant design,
ease of installation and operation, high reliability and maxi-
mum radiation power with minimal convection.
These instructions provide important information on safety, in-
stallation, use and maintenance of the device. Please read the
information provided in these instructions carefully.
The manufacturer shall not be held liable if these instructions
are not complied with. Devices may not be used improperly i.e.
for purposes other than the intended use.
The packaging of your high-quality LAVA®infrared heater is
made from recyclable materials.
ATTENTION: High surface temperatures occur when the
LAVA®infrared heating system is operated. There is a risk of
burns from prolonged contact. Please ensure that children or
frail individuals are supervised at all times.
This heating device is not intended for use by persons (includ-
ing children) with limited physical, sensory or mental capacity
or with a lack of experience and knowledge. Such individuals
must be supervised by a person responsible for their safety or
instructed on use of the device. Children should be supervised
in order to ensure that they do not play with the device.
This heater must not be installed under a wall socket.
WARNING: Covering the surface creates a
danger of overheating. Overheating may occur
and the heating element may be damaged even
by covering the front of the device e.g. with a
hand towel.
WARNING: The Design infrared heating device may not be
used if the front of the device is damaged.
Overheating and overload protection
All heaters have overheating protection which is activated in
the event of overheating.
These instructions must
› be given to the operator following installation. The operator
must also be instructed in the radiation heater’s functionality.
› kept safe and transferred to the new owner in the event of a
change in ownership.
This device can be used by children of 8 years and above and by
persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities and
with a lack of experience or knowledge if they are supervised or
have been instructed on safe use of the device and understand
the resulting risks. Children may not play with the device. Chil-
dren may not clean the device or perform maintenance on it
without supervision.
Children under the age of 3 should be kept away unless un-
der constant supervision. Children between the ages of 3 and 8
may only switch the device on and off if they are supervised or
have been instructed regarding safe use of the device and un-
derstand the resulting risks, as long as the device is placed or
installed at its normal place of use. Children between the ages
of 3 and 8 may not plug the device in, control the device, clean
it and/or carry out maintenance.
The device may only be operated once installed. This heater
may not be used in the immediate vicinity of a bath, shower or
swimming pool. The heater may not be used in small rooms
occupied by persons who cannot leave the room independently,
except where constant supervision is guaranteed
ATTENTION: Strain of any kind on the surface, whether
from persons or objects leaning against it or from other
forces, must be avoided.
Some product parts can become very hot and cause burns.
Particular caution is required when children or vulnerable per-
sons are present.
INTRODUCTION
GENERAL
You have purchased a high-tech product with an infrared panel
heating system. Its economical and environmentally-friendly
design will offer you comfort over a long period of time and
practical benets when the following information and guide-
lines are adhered to. These rules must be retained for any pos-
sible claims under warranty.
These instructions provide information on the use and installa-
tion of the heater elements for use as a panel-based element
heating system.
The heating panels are direct heaters which operate accord-
ing to the principle of thermal radiation (infrared). They have a
low energy demand, are easy to install and achieve a pleasant
and cosy temperature. They also make a major contribution to-
wards protection of the environment.

Important notes:
› LAVA®DESK 120 from ETHERMA complies with the relevant
safety requirements.
› Installation and initial start-up, as well as repairs and ser-
vicing, may be carried out by a licensed specialist or quali-
ed individual only. All safety regulations must be observed.
Such individuals must rst verify whether the indoor electri-
cal system corresponds to the relevant standards. The re-
sponsibility of the manufacturer is limited to supply of the
device.
› Comply with country-specic safety regulations.
› Comply with local safety precautions.
› The devices are suitable for installation under desks and on
walls.
› Protective areas must be observed in accordance with DIN
VDE 0100, part 701, when installing the device in bathrooms.
› Minimum distances must be adhered to.
Installation and minimum distances:
The desk heater is rear-mounted by screwing to a desk or to a
suitable surface. There are four holes provided for this purpose.
Screws for mounting to wood are included in the product con-
tents; suitable mounting screws must be used for mounting
to other surfaces such as brickwork or similar. These are not
included in the scope of supply.
The preferred position for installation is in the desk's knee
area. The constant temperature measured at the heating ele-
ment should not exceed 65 °C, not caused by heat coming from
external sources e.g. external heating. Trapped heat must be
avoided. The manufacturer shall not be held liable for any dam-
ages that may result from failure to observe the operating and
installation manual.
Installing the design infrared heater:
Please inspect the power supply cord to the heater and the
surface before installation. These must not show any signs of
damage.
Installation under desks and on walls:
1. Drill holes on the underside of the desk surface or the wall -
in so doing, please observe the hole spacing provided.
2. Afx LAVA®DESK 120 and tighten screws fully.
CAUTION: Strain of any kind on the surface, whether from
persons or objects leaning against it or from other forces,
must be avoided.

plug and switch. Connect to the 230 V socket after installation.

Operation
› Do not operate the heating element outdoors.
› Do not submerge the heating element in water or expose to
splashing water.
› Be sure to turn off the power supply before cleaning the
heating element.
› Clean with a dustcloth or a slightly moist towel only.
› Attention! Trapped heat: Do not place objects against, on or
at the heating element.
› Do not carry out repairs to the power cable or heating ele-
ment yourself under any circumstances.
