4
WARNING – risk of burns
• Accessible parts inside the appliance also get
very hot while it is being used.
Ensure that nobody touches the hot parts while
the appliance is on or while it is cooling down
(at least 30 minutes).
Leave the appliance to cool down before
cleaning, transporting or storing it.
• The food that you cook in the appliance also
becomes very hot. Be careful when taking it
out!
• While food is cooking, steam is emitted from
the ventilation openings. Keep your hands
and face away from these – there is a risk
of scalding! Also be careful when opening
the appliance for steam escaping.
• Do not pour water into the hot cooking basket
chamber. The steam produced could cause
scalds.
WARNING – fire hazard
• Never leave the appliance unsupervised while
it is operating.
• The appliance must not be operated with a timer
or by means of any separate remote control.
• Never cover the ventilation openings while
the appliance is being used or cooling down
after use.

Keep flammable materials away from the
appliance and do not cover it.
• Unwind the mains cord completely before
use. Be sure that the unwound mains cord
is entirely free of the appliance.
• Never use the appliance without the cooking
basket and sieve inserted.
• Always place the food you wish to cook into
the sieve insert, never place it directly into
the cooking basket. Otherwise the hot air
is unable to circulate properly.
• Do not overfill the cooking basket. Observe the
MAX mark! Ensure that the food does not come
into direct contact with the heating elements.
• Never put any oil into the pan as this can ignite.
• Never cook packaged food in the appliance.
• If there is dark smoke coming out the appli-
ance, switch it off immediately and pull the
mains plug out of the socket. Wait until there
is no more smoke coming out before removing
the cooking basket from the appliance.
Please note: light-coloured smoke is generally
harmless.
CAUTION – material damage
• Only use a heat-resistant wooden or plastic
implement when preparing and removing
food. This prevents the non-stick coating
of the cooking basket and the sieve insert
from becoming scratched.
• Never clean the cooking basket or the sieve
insert with abrasive products, oven cleaner or
any materials that might scratch the surface.
This could damage the non-stick coating.
• Always place the appliance on a stable, level
and heat-resistant surface or mat.
• Some varnishes, synthetic substances or types
of furniture polish may react adversely with
the material of the non-slip feet and soften
them. If necessary, place a non-slip mat under
the appliance.

5

automatically switches off the heat when the
cooking basket is removed and switches it back
on when the cooking basket is inserted again.
The appliance does not work without the cook-
ing basket inserted.
• The appliance is protected from overheating.
It automatically switches off when the built-in
temperature monitor malfunctions. The appli-
ance will no longer work. Disconnect the mains
plug, leave the appliance to cool down and con-
tact the customer care service or a specialist
workshop to have the appliance repaired.

surface meaning that its outside parts do
not become excessively hot when in use,
eliminating the risk of burns when touched.
About acrylamide
Acrylamide is produced during processes involv-
ing intense heat (baking, frying, deep-frying,
grilling, toasting etc.), particularly in foods
containing starch.
At the present time, it is not possible to say
conclusively in what form acrylamide is harmful
to the human organism.
To be on the safe side you should not cook
your food for too long, as intense browning
may also lead to an increased risk.
A rule of thumb is: “Golden, not charred”. As
research is set to continue beyond the issuing
of these operating instructions, keep an eye
on this subject in the press.
It is also well documented on the Internet.
Symbols on the appliance
This symbol warns of hot surfaces
(on the inside) and hot rising steam
(via the ventilation slits on the back).

What is hot air frying and which foods
are suitable for cooking in this way?
Hot air frying cooks food – as its name suggests
– using only hot air; no oil, fat or water are
needed.
• Generally all food that can be cooked in the
oven is also suitable to be cooked in the hot
air fryer.
• If you want to cook frozen chips, ensure that
they are suitable to be cooked in the oven
and not just for a deep fryer.
• Refer to the instructions provided under
“Making home-made chips” if you wish to
make home-made chips.
• Do not use any foods which have a high fat
content, e.g. sausages, etc.
• To make filled dumplings, we recommend using
store-bought sheets of pastry. These can be
prepared more quickly than home-made ones.
• Cut large food items into smaller pieces to
shorten the cooking time and to achieve better
cooking results.
• A large amount of food only takes slightly
longer than a small amount. Do not overfill the
cooking basket. Never fill the cooking basket
above the MAX-mark, otherwise this may
prevent the food from cooking evenly.
Follow the guidelines in the table further
on in these instructions.
• Make sure you shake small pieces of food
after half of the cooking time so that they
cook evenly (see table).
• For example, to make quiche or cake, or to
prepare delicate ingredients or filled foods,
place a small, oven-safe baking dish or mould
(e.g. made of silicone, stainless steel, aluminium
or terracotta) into the cooking basket.
• The appliance is also suitable for heating up
meals. For this, set the temperature to 150°C
for up to 10 minutes.

12
Making home-made chips
Use waxy potatoes when making home-made
chips, so that they do not fall apart during
cooking.
It is best to use approx. 500 g of potatoes.
1. Peel the potatoes and chop them into thin
sticks, no thicker than 1 cm: the thinner the
sticks, the crispier the chips.
2. Soak the potato sticks in bowl of cold water
for at least 30 minutes to remove as much
starch from them as possible. Starch
prevents the chips from browning evenly.
Then dry them thoroughly with clean kitchen
paper. The sticks should be as dry as possi-
ble before being put into the appliance.
3. In a bowl, carefully mix the sticks with 1/2 to
1 tsp vegetable oil, e.g. sunflower oil, until all
of them are lightly coated with oil. This will
make the chips lovely and crispy. Do not
use butter or margarine. These fats are
not suitable for deep-frying.
4. Take the potato sticks out the bowl carefully,
letting any excess oil drip off.
If necessary, use a piece of kitchen paper
to dab off any excess oil. Place the potato
sticks into the cooking basket.
Please note: Do not pour the sticks directly
out of the bowl into the cooking basket,
in order to prevent any excess oil from
ending up in the cooking basket!
5. Cook the chips according to the
instructions in the table.
Use
WARNING – risk of fire
• Do not place the appliance under wall cup-
boards, near flammable objects or directly
against a wall or in a corner. Make sure that
the mains cord does not hang down from
the work surface.

• Never use the appliance without the cooking
basket or the sieve insert.
• Do not put any oil or fat into the cooking
basket.
MSet the appliance on a heat-resistant,
non-slip, level and stable work surface.
MPlace the sieve insert into the cooking bas-
ket. The small silicone caps on the base of
the sieve insert must be correctly attached.
Preheating
The values in the cooking table apply to a
pre-heated appliance. To time the cooking
process perfectly, we recommend preheating
the appliance. Switch the appliance on without
any food in it at first, but with the cooking basket
and sieve insert, as described in the section
“Prior to first use (without food)”.
Only fill the appliance with food once the
“Heating up” icon has gone out (after
max. 3 minutes, depending on the temperature).

as you would like, slide the cooking basket
back into the appliance and programme the
appliance to cook the food for a further few
minutes.
11. Once the food is cooked to your liking,
carefully remove it from the cooking basket
using a suitable utensil (made of wood,
silicone or plastic).
Do not use any utensils made of metal so
as to avoid damaging the non-stick coating
of the cooking basket and sieve insert!
Do not pour the food from the cooking
basket directly into another container!
This helps to ensure that no oil residue
in the cooking basket beneath the sieve
insert is poured out along with the food.
12. If you wish to cook another portion of food,
fill the basket with the food you wish to cook
and start a new cooking process.

15

Problems / solutions
The appliance is not
working.
• Is the appliance plugged in?
• Is the cooking basket with the sieve insert fully inserted into the appliance?
If the cooking basket is not correctly locked into the appliance, the
contact switch will not be activated and the appliance cannot be
switched on.
The cooking basket
cannot be inserted
into the appliance.
• Is the cooking basket too full? Observe the MAX-mark.
• Is the locking mechanism stuck or damaged? Check the cooking basket
and the housing.
The food is not cooked
through.
• Too much food in the basket? Try cooking a smaller portion.
Cut them slightly smaller, if necessary.
• Was the temperature set too low? Set the appliance to a higher temperature.
• Is the cooking time too short? Set a longer cooking time on the appliance.
The food has been
cooked unevenly.
• Food that is overlapping in the basket (e.g. chips), must be turned or
shaken after half of the cooking time has elapsed so that it cooks evenly.
The food does not
become crispy.
• Is the food you wish to cook suitable for cooking in the oven?
Snacks which are specially designed to be deep-fried will not get crispy
in the hot air fryer.
• If necessary, put a small amount of oil onto the food before you place
it in the basket. Do not put any oil into the cooking basket.
Home-made chips
do not become crispy.
• Did you used a suitable potato variety? You need to use waxy potatoes.
Cut the chips thinner if necessary.
• Did you wash the potatoes properly? Too much starch prevents the chips
from becoming crispy.
• Were the raw potato sticks too wet before cooking?
Dry off the potato sticks before coating them in oil and placing them into
the cooking basket.
White smoke
is coming out
of the appliance.
• Oil or fat from the food is dripping through the sieve insert into
the cooking basket. This makes the cooking basket slightly hotter.
However, this is harmless and does not affect the cooking result.
• Use ingredients which have as little fat as possible. Use fat and oil
very sparingly.
• Gently pat down marinated ingredients so that no excess marinade
or meat juices drip into the cooking basket. For breaded foods, gently
compress the breadcrumb coating before cooking.
• Clean the cooking basket and sieve insert thoroughly after every use
to remove any fat or oil residue.
