Introduction
The Lenovo ThinkSmart Hub 500 is an all-in-one (compute/PC + microphones + speakers + control) device
purpose-built for Meeting Room collaboration. Its design features an 11.6” touch panel capable of
rotating 360 degrees. With the ThinkSmart Hub 500, the only other hardware needed is a USB camera
and HDMI connected display.
Microphones are integrated into the top of the touchscreen and speakers are located in the ‘stem’ that
connects the touchscreen to the base. It ideally sits atop a conference room table and enables audio,
video and content sharing capabilities.
Target Rooms
The Hub 500 scales well to many room sizes, but out of the box it is ideal for small to medium rooms.
These are typically huddle rooms, team rooms, and smaller conference/meeting spaces (aprox 15’ x 15’)
suitable for 4 – 8 people. The two microphones on the Hub 500 are tuned for a 360-degree audio
capture and the distance from the Hub 500 to an in-room participant should be no greater than 13’.

Backplane – Ports
Integrated Touch Display
The Hub 500 features an 11.6” touch display that is permanently affixed to the base, but it can rotate
360 degrees so that anyone around the table can control the meeting. This touch display is the control
panel where meetings are started, participants are managed and the Hub is configured. All meeting
content such as video from remote participants and sharing will be seen on the front-of-room display(s)
as the control panel is not designed to display content.

Setup
1. Remove the Hub 500 from its packaging and place it on a flat surface
2. Attach the power cord to AC adapter box and plug into wall outlet
3. Connect to external HDMI monitor
4. Power on by pressing button located on side of grill

Cable Management
The ThinkSmart Hub 500 delivers a custom cable management solution designed to keep all connected
cables securely in place. On the back of the device, under a secured the door, there are two locking
arms. One is for the HDMI IN and (optional) 3.5mm cables, and the larger main arm secures the rest.
Hardware Connection Steps
1. Turn the screen so that it faces opposite the door for cables. To open the door, unfasten
the screw that holds the cover and flip the door up.
2. Release the main arm by sliding the larger latch to the right. Lift the arm out of the way.
Connect USB Camera
The Hub 500 has four standard USB 3.0 ports along the backplane that support any compatible USB
peripheral. You will be connecting a USB camera to the Hub 500 for video capture. In larger rooms, other
peripheral options are satellite/extended microphones. In most cases once a USB device is inserted into
the USB port, the Hub will automatically detect and install the corresponding drivers.

3. Connect a USB camera into any of the 4 USB ports
Connect External HDMI Display(s)
The Hub 500 has two HDMI OUT ports that can drive two external displays at 1920x1080 (HD) resolution.
You should plan to connect at least one external display.
4. Insert the cable(s) for HDMI display(s) into the appropriate port(s) and align the cable(s) into the
corresponding groove(s).

5. Insert the Ethernet cable into the appropriate port and align the cable into the corresponding
groove. Best practice is to setup and run the Hub 500 on a wired connection.

6. Take the yellow end of power cable and insert it in far-left port.

Secure Larger Cable Management Arm
7. Push down on the main arm until it clicks. Note that up to 40lbs of force may be required to
close completely.
Connect HDMI ingest (Screen Presentation) cable
The HDMI ingest cable will attach to the backplane of the Hub 500 on one end, while the other end will
sit atop the table. The purpose of the cable is for in-room participants to present content in-room on the
screen and/or to remote participants in the meeting.
8. To release the smaller arm for the HDMI-IN, push the smaller latch to the left.
9. Insert the HDMI IN cable into the appropriate port and guide it through the corresponding
groove. Push down on the smaller arm to secure the HDMI IN cable.
10. Once all the cables are securely connected and held in place by the arms, ensure all cables are
nested in a groove. Lower the lid of the cable management bay and refasten the screw.

Power On Device
11. Power on the Hub 500 by pressing the button on edge of device.
