Chapter 1. Meet your computer

devices.
5. Combo audio jack Connect head hones or headsets with a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4- ole
lug.
Note: This jack does not su ort standalone external micro hones. If
you use headsets, choose one with a single lug.
6. Novo button hole
Press the Novo button to o en the No o Button menu. From the
menu, you can choose to o en the UEFI/BIOS setu utility, the Boot
menu, or the Windows startu o tions screen.
Note: You will need a in or a ercli to ress the No o Button.

1. Power button Press the button to turn on the com uter or ut the com uter into
slee mode.
The light on the ower button shows the system status of your
com uter.
2. 4-in-1 memory card reader slot Insert an SD card, SDHC card, SDXC card, or a MultiMediaCard
(MMC) into the slot for data transfer or storage.
3. USB (3.1 Gen 1) Ty e-A connector Connect a USB-com atible device, such as a USB keyboard, a USB
mouse, a USB storage device, or a USB rinter.

(always-on)
Connect a USB-com atible device, such as a USB keyboard, a USB
mouse, a USB storage device, or a USB rinter.
The always-on connector can charge external devices when the
com uter is turned off, in slee or hibernation mode. The always-on
function can be turned on or off in the UEFI/BIOS setu utility.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is re-installed on your com uter, you can
also set always-on function from within that software.

De ending on many factors such as the rocessing ca ability of the host and eri heral devices, file
attributes, and other factors related to system configuration and o erating environments, the actual transfer
rate using the various USB connectors on this device will vary and will be slower than the data rate listed
below for each corres onding device.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows hel information.
Windows account
You must create at least one account to use the Windows o erating system. It can be either a local account
or a Microsoft account.
Local accounts
A local account is created on a articular Windows-enabled device and it can only be used on that device. It
is recommended that you set a assword for each local account to revent unauthorized access to the
device.
Microsoft accounts
A Microsoft account is a user account that you use to sign in to Microsoft software and services. If you use
Microsoft services like OneDrive, Outlook.com, Xbox Live, Office 365, and Sky e, you might already have
one. If you don't have it, you can create one for free.
There are two main benefits of using a Microsoft account:
• Sign in only once. If you use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, you don’t need to sign in again
to use OneDrive, Sky e, Outlook.com, and other Microsoft services.
• Settings can be synced. If you use your Microsoft account to sign in to multi le Windows-enabled
devices, certain Windows settings can be synced among the devices.
Switch between a local and a Microsoft account
If you are using a local account to sign in to Windows 10, you can switch to use a Microsoft account instead.
Ste 1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts.
Ste 2. Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
Ste 3. If you already have a Microsoft account, enter the account name and assword to sign in.
Otherwise, select Create one to create a new Microsoft account.
Note: The device must have Internet access the first time you use a Microsoft account on that
device.
If you want to switch back to use a local account, o en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙
Sign in with a local account instead.
Add additional user accounts
Your user account must be of the “Administrator” ty e to add additional user accounts to Windows.
Add additional user accounts if you need to share your com uter with family members or other users.
Ste 1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Family & other users.
Ste 2. Select Add someone else to this PC.

Note: To add family members, you need to sign in with a Microsoft account.
Ste 3. Set the user name and assword for the user account.
Enroll your fingerprint
If your com uter includes a finger rint reader, you can enroll your finger rint for Windows sign-in.
Ste 1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Sign-in options.
Note: If you are using a local account, the account must be assword rotected. Otherwise, you
cannot enroll finger rints.
Ste 2. Select Windows Hello Fingerprint ➙ Set up ➙ Get started.
Ste 3. Follow on-screen instructions to com lete the enrollment. Create a PIN when rom ted, in case
your finger rint cannot be recognized at Windows sign-in.
Note: You can enroll more than one finger rint.

Windows desktop
1. Account Change account settings, lock the com uter, or sign out of the
current account.
2. Documents O en the Documents folder, a default folder to save your received
files.
3. Pictures O en the Pictures folder, a default folder to save your received
ictures.
4. Settings O en Settings.
5. Power Shut down, restart, or ut the com uter into slee mode.
6. Start button O en the Start menu.
7. Windows Search Enter what you are looking for in the search box and get search
results from your com uter and the Web.
8. Task View Dis lay all o ened a s and switch between them.
9. Windows notification area Dis lay notifications and status of some features.
10. Battery status icon Dis lay ower status and change battery or ower settings.
11. Network icon Connect to an available wireless network and dis lay the network
status. When connected to a wired network, the icon changes to .
12. Action center Dis lay the latest notifications from a s and rovide quick access to
some features.
Open the Start menu
• Click the Start button.
• Press the Windows logo key on the keyboard.

Open Control Panel
• O en the Start menu and select Windows System ➙ Control Panel.
• Use Windows Search.
Open an app
• O en the Start menu and select the a you want to o en.
• Use Windows Search.
Leno o Vantage and Leno o PC Manager
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager is software develo ed by Lenovo. Using the software, you can:
• View roduct information
• View warranty and su ort information
• Run hardware scan and diagnose roblems
• Change hardware settings
• U date Windows, drivers, and UEFI/BIOS
Lenovo Vantage or PC Manager may be re-installed on your com uter. To o en it, enter the software name
in Windows Search and select the matched result.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is not re-installed, you can download it from Microsoft Store.
Connect to networks
Your com uter hel s you connect to the world through a wired or wireless network.
Connect to wired networks
Your com uter does not include an RJ-45 Ethernet connector. If you want to connect to networks using a
wired cable, you need to urchase and use one of the following ada ters.
• USB Ty e-A to RJ-45
• USB-C to RJ-45
Ste 1. Plug the USB connector of the ada ter into the a ro riate connector on your com uter.
Ste 2. Plug one end of the RJ-45 Ethernet cable into the RJ45 connector on the ada ter.
Ste 3. Plug the other end of the RJ-45 Ethernet cable into the a ro riate connector to connect to the
network.
Windows will automatically connect you to most networks once you have finished connecting the RJ-45
Ethernet cable. However, in some cases you may need to contact the network administrator to finish
connecting to a wired network. This is most likely to ha en at offices and events, but may be required as
well for some home networks.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
If your com uter includes a wireless ada ter, you can connect your com uter to Wi-Fi networks.
Ste 1. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area. A list of nearby networks is dis layed.
Note: If no network is dis layed, check to ensure that the air lane mode is not turned on.

Ste 2. Select a network and click Connect. Provide security key if rom ted.
Note: The network key is usually managed by the network administrator.
Forget a Wi-Fi network
Windows saves a list of Wi-Fi networks you have connected to, along with their asswords and other
settings. By doing this, your com uter is automatically connected when it is in the range of a reviously
connected network. However, if the network assword has been changed, you need to forget the network in
order to enter a new assword.
Ste 1. Select Start ➙ Settings ➙ Network & Internet ➙ Wi-Fi.
Ste 2. Click Manage known networks.
Ste 3. Click the network name and click Forget.
Turn airplane mode on and off
Air lane mode is a convenient setting to turn all wireless communications of your com uter on and off. You
may need to turn it on when boarding an air lane.
Ste 1. Click the action center icon in the Windows notification area.
Ste 2. Click the Airplane mode icon to turn it on or off.
Note: Click Expand if you cannot find the air lane mode icon.
Connect to an external display de ice
You can connect your com uter to external dis lay devices through wired or wireless connections.
Connection type Requirements
Wired You must have an HDMI cable.
Wireless You must have one of the following:
• An external dis lay that su orts Miracast®
• A Miracast ada ter for the external dis lay
Connect to a wired display de ice
HDMI
Use an HDMI cable (not su lied) to connect your com uter to a wired dis lay device. Read the
documentation for the dis lay device before urchasing a cable.
Ste 1. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI connector on your com uter.
Ste 2. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the a ro riate HDMI connector on the dis lay.
Connect to a wireless display de ice
You can connect your com uter to an external dis lay through Miracast.
Note: The dis lay device may su ort Miracast directly or may use an ada ter that su orts Miracast.
Ste 1. In Windows 10, select Start ➙ Settings ➙ De ices.

Ste 2. Select Add Bluetooth or other de ice ➙ Wireless display or dock.
Ste 3. Select the device name to connect to.
Notes: If the device name is not dis layed, check to ensure that
• Wi-Fi is turned on for your com uter.
• the dis lay device is turned on and is near your com uter.
The No o Button menu
The Novo Button menu can be dis layed before the o erating system starts. From the menu, you can
choose to
• O en the BIOS/UEFI setu utility
• O en the boot device selection menu
• O en the Windows startu o tions screen
Note: From the Windows startu o tions screen, you can then choose to
Start your com uter using a recovery drive
Reset your com uter
O en advanced o tions screen
Open the No o Button menu
For Lenovo com uters with a Novo button, you can ress the button to o en the Novo Button menu.
Ste 1. Turn off the com uter.
Ste 2. O en the LCD screen and ress the Novo button.
Note: Alternatively, turn off the com uter. Press Fn and the ower button to o en the Novo Button menu.
Yoga modes
The screen of your com uter can o en u to an angle of 360 degrees, enabling you to use your com uter for
different ur oses.
