Chapter . Meet your computer
Front
1. Microphones Capture or record sound and voice.
2. Ambient light sensor Detect the surrounding light intensity and adjust the brightness of the
built-in screen accordingly.
Note: To turn off the automatic brightness adjustment, type display
settings in the Windo s search box and then press Enter.
3. Infrared LED Emit infrared light for face authentication.
4. Camera • Capture still and moving images for taking photos, recording
videos, and video chatting.
• Capture your face images for face authentication.
Note: Use Windo s Hello to enroll your face for face authentication.
5. Camera s itch Turn the camera on or off.
6. Camera light If the light is on, the camera is in use.
7. Time of flight (ToF) sensor Detect human presence in front of the computer for facilitating zero
touch and other convenient features. See “Laser safety for the ToF
sensor” on page 7.
8. Screen Display text, graphics, and videos. Selected models support multi-
touch function.

1. Po er button/Fingerprint reader • Press the button to turn on the computer or put the computer into
sleep mode.
Note: You can turn on the computer by flipping open the LCD
screen if Flip to Boot is enabled.
• Enroll and read your fingerprint for user authentication.
2. Po er light/Fingerprint reader light • Po er light
– Fast blinking hite for t o times: The computer is turned on.
– Slo blinking hite: The computer is in sleep mode.
– Solid hite: The computer is in use.
– Off: The computer is turned off or in hibernation mode.
• Fingerprint reader light
– Blinking green and then solid green: The fingerprint reader is
ready to scan your fingerprint.
– Solid hite: The fingerprint scan is successful.
– Blinking amber and then solid green: The fingerprint scan has
failed ( ithin the first three times).
– Blinking amber and then solid hite: The fingerprint scan has
failed (more than three times).
3. Keyboard Enter characters and interact ith programs. The lights on the
keyboard sho the follo ing status of your computer.
• FnLock light: Turn on/off the FnLock s itch.
• CapsLock light: Enable/disable the CapsLock function.
• Speaker mute light: Mute/unmute the speakers.
Note: The keyboard also includes hotkeys and function keys for
changing settings and performing tasks quickly.
4. Touchpad Perform finger touch and all the functions of a traditional mouse.
Note: The touchpad also supports multi-touch function.

1. Po er connector/Thunderbolt™ 4
connector • Plug the ac po er adapter into the Thunderbolt 4 connector to
provide po er to the computer and charge the internal battery.
• Connect to an external display, storage, or data devices.
Note: An appropriate adapter may be needed for connecting to
external devices.
2. Charging light Indicate hether the computer is connected to ac po er.
• Solid hite: Connected to ac po er; battery capacity 91%–100%
• Solid amber: Connected to ac po er; battery capacity 1%–90%
• Off: Not connected to ac po er

Right
1. Po er light • Solid hite: The computer is turned on. Battery capacity 21% -
100%.
• Fast blinking: The computer is turned on. Battery capacity 1% -
20%.
• Slo blinking: The computer is in sleep mode.
• Off: The computer is turned off or in hibernation mode.
2. Po er connector/Thunderbolt™ 4
connector • Plug the ac po er adapter into the Thunderbolt 4 connector to
provide po er to the computer and charge the internal battery.
• Connect to an external display, storage, or data devices.
Note: An appropriate adapter may be needed for connecting to
external devices.
3. Combo audio jack Connect to headphones or headsets ith a 3.5 mm (0.14 inch), 4-pole
plug.
Note: This jack does not support standalone external microphones. If
you use headsets, choose one ith a single plug.

1. Wireless charging connector * Connect to a ireless charging mat to charge the internal battery.
2. Novo button hole Press the Novo button to open the Novo Button menu. From the
menu, you can choose to open the UEFI/BIOS setup utility, the Boot
menu, or the Windo s startup options screen.
3. Ventilation slots (inlet) Maintain the incoming airflo to dissipate internal heat.
Note: Do not block the ventilation slots. Other ise, the computer
might overheat.
4. Speakers Produce sound.
5. Wireless antennas Send and receive radio aves for the built-in ireless LAN (local area
net ork) and Bluetooth module.
Notes:
• The antennas are not visible from the outside of the computer.
• If the location of the antennas is close to the user’s body (< 20 cm),
you can find the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values in the Setup
Guide that comes ith your computer.

CAUTION:
This device contains a laser that could be damaged during repair or disassembly, which could result
in hazardous exposure to infrared laser emissions. There are no user serviceable parts with the
device. Do not attempt to disassemble or service the device.

Work with Windows
The follo ing table contains Windo s frequently used settings. You can learn the basics and start orking
ith Windo s right a ay.
To configure settings, type the corresponding key ords in the Windo s search box and select the best
match. Follo the on-screen instructions to customize settings.

For models ith a ireless LAN module, you can connect your computer to
a Wi-Fi® net ork. Click the net ork icon in the Windo s notification area,
and then select a net ork for connection.
Note: The ireless LAN module on your computer may support different
standards. For some countries or regions, use of 802.11ax may be disabled
according to local regulations.
Wi-Fi
Airplane mode Airplane mode is a convenient setting to turn all ireless communications of
your computer on and off. You may need to turn it on hen boarding an
airplane.

Night light mode Night light is a s itch in Windo s that you can turn on and off. When it is
turned on, your screen sho s armer colors and the amount of emitted
blue light is reduced. Enabling night light reduces the chances of developing
eye fatigue or eye strain.

If night light mode is turned on, you can adjust the color temperature of the
screen.
Note: Selected Lenovo computers are lo blue light certified. These
computers are tested ith night light turned on and color temperature set to
the default value of 48.

Updates
Microsoft periodically releases feature and security updates to the Windo s
operating system. Updates that are applicable to your Windo s version are
do nloaded automatically hen your computer is connected to the
Internet. When updates are do nloaded, you are prompted to restart the
computer to install these updates. You can also manually check if there are
available updates for the installed version of Windo s.
Attention: Only use Windo s Update to do nload and install updates.
Updates do nloaded from other sources may include security risks.

If the on-screen instructions cannot solve your problem, refer to the follo ing to get the online Windo s help
information.
• Type Get Help or Tips in the Windo s search box and then press Enter. When the app opens, type the
problem description and select the matched result.
• Visit Microsoft support Web site: https://support.microsoft.com. Enter hat you are looking for in the
search box and get search results.
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager are apps developed by Lenovo. Using either of the app, you can:
• Vie product information
• Vie arranty and support information
• Run hard are scan and diagnose problems
• Change hard are settings
• Update Windo s, drivers, and UEFI/BIOS
Lenovo Vantage or PC Manager may be pre-installed on your computer. To open it, enter the soft are name
in Windo s Search and select the matched result.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is not pre-installed, you can do nload it from the Microsoft Store.
The Novo Button menu
The Novo Button menu can be displayed before the operating system starts. From the menu, you can
choose to
• Open the BIOS/UEFI setup utility
• Open the boot device selection menu
• Open the Windo s startup options screen
Note: From the Windo s startup options screen, you can then choose to
Start your computer using a recovery drive
Reset your computer
Open advanced options screen
Open the Novo Button menu
For Lenovo computers ith a Novo button, you can press the button to open the Novo Button menu.
Step 1. Turn off the computer.
Step 2. Open the LCD screen and press the Novo button.
Note: Alternatively, turn off the computer. Press Fn and the po er button to open the Novo Button menu.

Interact with your computer
Keyboard hotkeys
Some keys on the keyboard are printed ith icons. These keys are called hotkeys and can be pressed alone
or in combination ith the Fn key to open certain apps or change certain settings quickly. The functions of
the hotkeys are symbolized by the icons printed on them.

Mute/Unmute sound.
Decrease/Increase system volume.
Mute/Unmute the microphone.
Increase/Decrease screen brightness.
S itch display devices.
Turn airplane mode on and off.
Service key.
Open the Windo s Settings app.
Lock the screen.
Open the Windo s Calculator app.
Open Lenovo Vantage, Lenovo PC Manager, or an app launch bar.
Open the Windo s screenshot tool.
Turn on/off or adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight.
Note: This hotkey must be used ith the Fn key.
Hotkey mode
Some hotkeys share keys ith function keys (F1 to F12). The hotkey mode is a UEFI/BIOS setting that
changes ho hotkeys (or function keys) are used.

The FnLock switch
The FnLock is a s itch that reverses the default and hidden function of a hotkey. The follo ing table
provides an example of ho the FnLock s itch changes the default function of the F1 key.

Note: The F1 function is application-dependent. It may have no function if the active application does not
have a definition for the key.
The FnLock s itch shares the ESC key (in the upper left corner of the keyboard). To turn it on or off, press Fn
+ ESC.
Touch operations supported by Windows (for selected models)
For computers ith a touch-enabled screen, you can touch the screen directly ith your fingers and interact
ith your computer in a more natural ay. The follo ing table lists frequently used touch operations that are
supported by the Windo s operating system.

The Windo s operating system also supports 3- and 4-finger gestures on the screen and the touchpad. You
