Chapter 1 Meet your computer

The indicator on the ower button shows the system status of your
com uter.
• Solid white/amber: the com uter is on.
• Off: the com uter is off or in hibernation mode.
• Blinking slowly: the com uter is in slee mode.

Chapter 2 Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows hel information.
Windows account
You must create at least one account to use the Windows o erating system. It can be either a local account
or a Microsoft account.
Local accounts
A local account is created on a articular Windows-enabled device and it can only be used on that device. It
is recommended that you set a assword for each local account to revent unauthorized access to the
device.
Microsoft accounts
A Microsoft account is a user account that you use to sign in to Microsoft software and services. If you use
Microsoft services like OneDrive, Outlook.com, Xbox Live, Office 365, and Sky e, you might already have
one. If you don't have it, you can create one for free.
There are two main benefits of using a Microsoft account:
• Sign in only once. If you use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, you don’t need to sign in again
to use OneDrive, Sky e, Outlook.com, and other Microsoft services.
• Settings can be synced. If you use your Microsoft account to sign in to multi le Windows-enabled
devices, certain Windows settings can be synced among the devices.
Switch between a local and a Microsoft account
If you are using a local account to sign in to Windows 10, you can switch to use a Microsoft account instead.
Ste 1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts.
Ste 2. Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
Ste 3. If you already have a Microsoft account, enter the account name and assword to sign in.
Otherwise, select Create one to create a new Microsoft account.
Note: The device must have Internet access the first time you use a Microsoft account on that
device.
If you want to switch back to use a local account, o en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙
Sign in with a local account instead.
Add additional user accounts
Your user account must be of the “Administrator” ty e to add additional user accounts to Windows.
Add additional user accounts if you need to share your com uter with family members or other eo le.
Ste 1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Family & other users.
Ste 2. Select either Add a family member or Add someone else to this PC.

Note: By default, you are rom ted to add Microsoft accounts. If you don’t know the erson’s
Microsoft account, select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information. Follow on-screen
instructions to create a Microsoft account for the erson. Alternatively, select Add a user without a
Microsoft account to create a local account for the erson.
Enroll your fingerprint
If your com uter includes a finger rint reader, you can enroll your finger rint for Windows sign-in.
Ste 1. O en the Start menu and select Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Sign-in options.
Note: If you are using a local account, the account must be assword rotected. Otherwise, you
cannot enroll finger rints.
Ste 2. Under Fingerprint, select Set up ➙ Get started.
Ste 3. Follow on-screen instructions to com lete enrollment. Create a PIN when rom ted, in case your
finger rint cannot be recognized at Windows sign-in.
Note: You can enroll more than one finger rint.

Windows user interface
1. Account Change account settings, lock the com uter, or sign out from the current account.
2. Documents O en the Documents folder, a default folder to save your received files.
3. Pictures O en the Pictures folder, a default folder to save your received ictures.
4. Settings Launch Settings.
5. Power Shut down, restart, or ut the com uter in slee mode.
6. Start button O en the Start menu.
7. Windows Search Ty e what you are looking for in the search box and get search results from your
com uter and the Web.
8. Task View Dis lay all o ened a s and switch among them.
9. Windows notification area Dis lay notifications and status of some features.
10. Battery status icon Dis lay ower status and change battery or ower settings. When your com uter
is not connected to ac ower, the icon changes to .
11. Network icon Connect to an available wireless network and dis lay the network status.
12. Action center Dis lay the latest notifications from a s and rovide quick access to some
features.
Open the Start menu
• Click the Start button.
• Press the Windows logo key on the keyboard.
Access Control Panel
• O en the Start menu and click Windows System ➙ Control Panel.
• Use Windows Search.

Launch an app
• O en the Start menu and select the a you want to launch.
• Use Windows Search.
Windows Updates
Microsoft eriodically releases feature and security u dates to the Windows o erating system. U dates that
are a licable to your version of Windows are downloaded automatically when your com uter is connected
to the Internet. When u dates are downloaded, you are rom ted to restart the com uter to install these
u dates.
Manually check for updates
U dates to Windows are downloaded automatically. However, you can also manually check if there are
available u dates for the installed version of Windows.
Attention: Only download and install u dates using Windows U date. U dates downloaded from other
sources may include security risks.
Ste 1. Select Start ➙ Settings ➙ Update & Security.
Ste 2. Click Check for updates.
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager is software develo ed by Lenovo. Using the software, you can:
• View roduct information
• View warranty and su ort information
• Run hardware scan and diagnose roblems
• Change hardware settings
• U date Windows, drivers, and UEFI/BIOS
Lenovo Vantage or PC Manager may be re-installed on your com uter. To o en it, enter the software name
in Windows Search and select the matched result.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is not re-installed, you can download it from Microsoft Store.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
If your com uter includes a wireless ada ter, you can connect your com uter to Wi-Fi networks.
Ste 1. Click the network icon in the Windows notification area. A list of nearby networks is dis layed.
Note: If no network is dis layed, check whether the air lane mode is turned off.
Ste 2. Select a network and click Connect. Provide security key if rom ted.
Note: The network key is usually managed by the network administrator.
Connect to a cellular network
If your com uter has a wireless wide area network (WAN) card and a nano-SIM card installed, you can
connect to a cellular data network and get online using the cellular signal.

Note: The cellular service is rovided by authorized mobile service carriers in some countries or regions.
You must have a cellular lan from a service carrier to connect to the cellular network.
To establish a cellular connection:
Shut down your com uter before inserting a SIM card.
Ste 1. Use the in to eject the SIM card tray as shown.
Ste 2. Insert the SIM card in the SIM card tray. Note the orientation of the card and ensure that it is seated
correctly.
Ste 3. Insert the SIM card tray into the SIM card slot.
Ste 4. Click the network icon in the Windows notifications area, and then select the cellular network icon
from the list.

Ste 5. Provide the required information if needed.
Forget a Wi-Fi network
Windows saves a list of Wi-Fi networks you have connected to, along with their asswords and other
settings. By doing this, your com uter is automatically connected when it is in the range of a reviously
connected network. However, if the network assword has been changed, you need to forget the network in
order to enter the new assword.
Ste 1. Select Start ➙ Settings ➙ Network & Internet ➙ Wi-Fi.
Ste 2. Click Manage known networks.
Ste 3. Click the network name and click Forget.
Turn on or off airplane mode
Air lane mode is a convenient setting to turn on or off all wireless communication of your com uter. You may
need to turn it on when boarding an air lane.
Ste 1. Click the notification icon in the Windows notification area.
Ste 2. Click the air lane mode icon to turn it on or off.
Note: Click Expand if you cannot find the air lane mode icon.

Yoga modes
The screen of your com uter can o en u to 360 degrees, enabling you to use your com uter for different
ur oses.
