Tools and Equipment
• Straight edge
• Utility knife or drywall saw
• Screwdriver (small flathead)
• Marker or pencil
Included Components
• (1) CNXQ speaker
• (1) Ceiling grid t-bar attachment
• (1) 50ft plenum rated speaker wire
Step 1: Selecting Speaker Mounting Locations
One CNXQ speaker will distribute sound throughout a classroom
of up to 1200 square feet. The location of the speaker is critical to
ensure this even sound distribution.
a. Identify the center of the listening area of the classroom for
optimum location (see figure 1).
b. Select a ceiling tile that is free from fixtures (lighting, HVAC, etc.)
nearest to the center point.
c. Remove the selected ceiling tile for speaker installation.
Step 2: Installing the Speaker into the Ceiling Grid
The dimensions of the CNXQ speaker are 2’ x 2’ and is designed to lie
onto any standard suspended ceiling tile grid.
a. If the ceiling tile that was removed is 2’ x 4’, it needs to be cut in
half to accommodate the CNXQ speaker. If the ceiling tile that was
removed is 2’ x 2’, no cutting of the tile is necessary, skip to Step e.
b. Set the ceiling tile on a flat work surface with the patterned side
facing down.
c. Using a straight edge, cut the 2’ x 4’ ceiling in half (see figure 2)
leaving two 2’ x 2’ sections.
d. Locate the 2’ ceiling grid t-bar attachment. Locate the attachment
slots in the existing ceiling grid and snap the new t-bar into place to
crate two 2’ x 2’ openings (see figure 3).
e. Locate the coil of speaker wire. Connect one end of the wire to the
CNXQ speaker. Press down the speaker tabs on the back of the
CNXQ and insert the red and black wires into the corresponding
terminals.
f. Route the other end of the wire up through the ceiling and back to
the amplifier, securing to the ceiling supports as required by codes.
g. The speaker has an earthquake strap attached. This should be tied
off to the ceiling support as required by local building codes. If this
strap is not being used, it should be removed entirely to prevent any
unwanted vibration.
h. Lift the CNXQ speaker up and lay it into the desired 2’ x 2’ opening
in the ceiling.
i. Replace the cut 2’ x 2’ tile back into the adjacent opening.

Step 3: Connecting the Speaker Wire to the Amplifier
a. Unplug the euro-block SPEAKER OUTPUT connector from the
amplifier.
b. Insert the two wires into the connector, paying close attention to
polarity (+ - - +).
c. Insert the red (+) wire and black (-) wire from the speaker into the left
side of the connector (SPEAKER OUTPUT 1). Tighten the screw on
top of the connector with small screwdriver to secure.
d. Plug the euro-block connector back into the amplifier and secure
using the two side screws.
NOTE: If connecting to CAT 885 the corresponding speaker volume
should be set in the maximum position.
Step 4: Return to the Set-up and Use section of the product User
Manual to continue installation.
