3Move ‘em out!
•Get your Inspection Vehicle moving. Press the DIRECTION button on
your Lionel transformer. This sequences the Lionel reverse unit to the next
operating state.
•Adjust track voltage until your Inspection Vehicle moves at your desired
speed. To increase speed, increase track voltage. To decrease speed, reduce
voltage. To stop the locomotive, turn-off track power.
•See page 4 for information on locking your Inspection Vehicle in a
single operational state.
Place your Inspection Vehicle on Lionel or
Lionel-compatible O gauge track.

2Power up your Inspection Vehicle with your transformer.
•Your Inspection Vehicle is designed to operate on 8-18 volts
alternating current. Virtually all Lionel and Lionel-compatible alternating-
current transformers are suitable.
Do not power your Inspection Vehicle with direct current (DC). Damage to
sensitive electronic components may occur.

To lock your Lionel Inspection Vehicle into a single operational state, you can deactivate the
reverse unit’s sequencing function with the reverse unit control switch.
Get your Inspection Vehicle moving in the desired direction, then slow down the Inspection
Vehicle without stopping. Slidethereverse unit control switch to the OFF position. Refer to Figure
1 for the location of the switch. The Inspection Vehicle is now “locked” into your chosen direction.
When you no longer want single-direction operation, just slide the reverse unit control
switch back to the ON position.
Your Inspection Vehicle’sreverse unit will “reset” to forward after any power interruption
lasting five seconds or longer, regardless of the original locked-out direction.

Lubricating your Inspection Vehicle
Help your Lionel Inspection Vehicle lead a long and productive life on your railroad by
maintaining it properly.
We recommend that you purchase a Lionel Lubrication and Maintenance Kit (6-62927),
available from your Lionel dealer. Two basic rules to keep in mind: never over-lubricate (a
small amount will do), and avoid getting grease or oil on the Inspection Vehicle’s wheels or
your track. You’ll know your Inspection Vehicle requires lubrication when visual inspection
reveals dryness on the parts indicated in Figure 2. Remove accumulated dirt and dust before
lubricating, and always lubricate any locomotive emerging from prolonged storage.

Replacing the lamps
Your Inspection Vehicle is illuminated by four small lamps, Lionel part no. 600-8516-009.
During the course of normal operations, you may find that the lamps require
replacement. Replacement lamps are available from your authorized Lionel Service Center or
from Lionel Service.
We recommend that you disconnect and replace one lamp at a time to avoid
crossing wires.
1. Gently pinch in the cab doors and pull up the body to release the snap-tab retainers from
the frame. Refer to Figure 3.
2. Locate the expired lamp and trace the wires back to the appropriate wire nuts.
3. Unscrew the wire nuts to free the wires.
4. Remove the expired lamp.
5. Install the replacement and use the wire nuts to connect the wires. To make the proper
connections, the ends of the wires must be stripped back 1/8” to 1/4”.
Only an adult should perform this task. Use a pair of wire strippers. Always use
care when stripping wires.
6. Snap the body back on the frame.
