1. Product description
1.1 General Information
The LIONTRON® LX48-50 is a modular LiFePO4 battery for highest demands. Due to its long
cycle life, the battery is ideally suited as a storage battery for photovoltaic systems, inverters or a
stand-alone power supply.
Highest safety and maximum service life are guaranteed because of high-quality LiFePO4 cells
and latest BMS-Technology, even with regular deep discharges. The battery enables fast efficient
charging and very high discharge current.
By simply hook-up of several battery modules, an increase of capacity can easily be done, even at
a later date.

2. Safety instructions
Please read these operating instructions carefully before using the device. Please observe all
notes and warnings. Non-compliance or incorrect operation can be dangerous for human and/or
damage the device.
2.1 Symbols

The device complies with the directives of the european community.
Symbol for marking of electrical and electronic devices according to
directive 2002/96 / EG, which indicates the device, accessories and
packaging may not be disposed of as unsorted household waste and
must be collected separately at the end of use. Please follow local
ordinances or disposal regulations or contact an authorized
representative of the manufacturer for information on
decommissioning devices.

Indicates the risk of electric shock and specifies the time (5 minutes)
required after inverter is switched off and disconnected to ensure

2.2 Further safety instructions
▪Electrical installations must be done by qualified personnel only.
▪Explosive or flammable substances must be kept away from device.
▪In case of fire, never extinguish with water or other liquids.
▪Device has to be placed in a cool and well ventilated place. Some surfaces may heat up.
▪Keep children away.
▪Never open the device.
▪Prevent static charge.
▪Use all potential equalization connections.
▪Switch off the device for maintenance work.
▪Never short the batteries. Watch out for close conductive parts.
Batteries must be installed in well ventilated and temperature controlled areas, dry,
immovable and protected from damage / fire.
▪Cables should be installed as short as possible.
▪Replace damaged batteries immediately.
▪Batteries have to be replaced with batteries of same type.
▪Batteries only have to be used with inverters and/or chargers.
▪Never connect the batteries directly to an AC power supply.

4. Installation
Make sure that the LiFePO4 battery is not connected with reversed polarity. If the battery is
connected incorrectly, the BMS electronics may be damaged irreparably.
4.1 Device check
After receipt of the LiFePo4 battery, check if the device has been damaged in any way, e.g. by
transport. In this case, do not operate the device and contact the seller.

4.3 Example of connection
All modules must be installed in a fixed location and free of vibration. Due to the 19" module size,
19" slide-in racks are suitable. Furthermore, the installation site should be plain, free of moisture
and dust.
Please note, the serial connection to the inverter/charger is made via CAN socket and to the
batteries via RS485 socket.

The battery is not suitable for serial connection!
Disregard can lead to defect!
For hook-up of several batteries, addressing of each individual battery module is necessary. The
appropriate addressing of eight batteries by using the DIP switches is carried out in the following
example:

5. Safety guideline
5.1 Intended use
The battery may only be used for purposes described in this operating manual. Use for other
purposes is considered as improper use and will invalidate the product warranty. The
manufacturer is not responsible for damages caused by incorrect, improper or inappropriate use of
the product. The use in aviation or in medical devices which serve for life support is against the
intended use. LiFePO4 batteries are designed for use as energy storage devices.
5.2 Explosion and fire hazard
Never place objects or tools on the lithium battery. Avoid short circuits. Use insulated tools. Do not
wear metal objects such as watches, bracelets, etc. when connecting the battery. In case of fire,
use a class D fire extinguisher, foam or CO2 fire extinguisher.

5.3 Maintenance
To maintain the battery, keep the connection poles and surface clean. Use cyclically at least once
a year to maintain the capacity of the battery and to calibrate the charge status.
5.4 Storage
Disconnect all devices. The battery should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated place. Avoid direct
sunlight. It is recommended to charge the battery to approx. 80% of its capacity and to check the
charge status once a year.
5.5 Transport instructions
The lithium battery must be transported in its original packaging or in an appropriate packaging.
Never lift the battery by its terminals, but always by its handles.
The batteries are tested according to the UN manual of tests and criteria, part III, subsection 38.3
(ST/SG/AC.10/11/version 5). With regard to transport, the batteries belong to category UN3480,
class 9, packing group II. The corresponding regulations must be observed. This means the
battries must be packed for transport by land or sea (ADR, RID & IMDG) according to packing
instruction P903 and for air transport (IATA) according to packing instruction P965. The original
packaging meets these requirements.
5.3 Disposal
Batteries marked with the recycling symbol must be emited at recognized recycling
centers. They can also be returned to the manufacturer after agreement. Batteries
are not allowed to be disposed of in household or industrial waste.

5.4 Important notes
▪Do not open the LiFePO4 battery without agreement of the dealer.
Unauthorized opening of the battery will invalidate the manufacturer's
warranty.
▪Only use the battery for the application for which it is intended. Do not short
the LiFePO4 battery.
▪Installation and maintenance may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
▪Do not permanently expose to direct sunlight. Protect against heat.
Temperatures above +60 °C may damage the battery.
▪Only use compatible chargers or inverters.

▪Take care of proper assembly.
▪Avoid damage of any kind, e.g. caused by falls, drilling or similar. (danger of
short circuit).
▪Always keep the battery dry and clean.
▪Observe the plus (+) and minus (-) markings on the LiFePO4 battery and the
device and make sure the polarity is correct.
▪Cycle capacity may vary from nominal capacity due to changes in operating
temperature and charge/discharge rate.
▪Only suitable for parallel connection. Serial connection is not permitted.
Batteries of different manufacturers or different types must not be connected.
