1) INTRODUCTION
The SONIMIX 3030 is a modular calibration system, specially developed for the Air Pollution
Monitoring Network.
The different modules of the SONIMIX 3030 family answer all to the following philosophy :
1 gas àmeasured by 1 analyseràchecked by 1 calibration module.
With such family it is possible using the 5 appropriate modules to calibrate up to 5 Analysers
(NOx, O3, SO2, CO and HC or BTX) at the same time.
Different technologies and method are used : dilution (by MFC or sonic Nozzles), permeation, ozone generation
and GPT
The modularity of the SONIMIX 3030 able the user to cover all it’s needs : from the simple one to the most
complex one.
The SONIMIX 3030 has a RS 232 remote command, a key board and a 2x20 character VFD screen.
All used components (MFC, sonic Nozzles, pressure regulators, permeation oven and ozone generator) have
been developed by LN INDUSTRIES SA.
Following features have been in the centre of the development :
•High precision and stability
•Quick stabilisation time (by suppression of the dead volumes)
•Easy link to the national standards
The SONIMIX 3030-Perm can be used to generate different gases (SO2, NO2, NH3, HCl and BTEX) by
permeation. The SONIMIX 3030-perm is available in 2 different configurations : 1 point or multi-points
The use of permeation oven in stead of low concentrated gas cylinders (ppb) gives a much higher stability of the
generated gas as well as lower functioning costs. The microprocessor automatically calculate the concentration
of the gases and regulate the voltage of the MFC.

The SONIMIX 6000D1 is an instrument designed to calibrate manually or by remote control a BTX
monitor with upto 6 different gas sources. The six gas sources are generated by 6 different
permeation tubes located in the same permeation oven; Benzen, Toluen, O-xylene, M-xylene, P-
Xylene and Ethyl Benzene. When the CALibration or Zero functions are not activated, the sample
flows through the instrument without any modification.
The SONIMIX 6000D1 is equiped with an interface designed to be directly compatible with the BTX
monitor. That feature allows in Remote mode, to receive and to interpret, the instructions SAMPLE,
ZERO and CALibration. In Local mode, the interface allows to Configure the calibrator and to
perform the manual operations of calibrations necessary after the maintenance process on the
monitor. The major parameters, such as temperature, pressure,… are readable on the display.
The basic configuration of theSONIMIX 6000D1 is mainly composed of 3 parts :
** a mass flow generator, based on high precision pressure regulator and sonic nozzles. The Air
pressure is monitored by a pressure switch.
** a thermostated oven for upto 6 permeation tubes
** an interface, based on the 80537 microcontroler, able to receive and execute the instructions
emitted by the monitor, instructions materialised by two relays; the power supplies for the
valves, the keyboard and the 2 X 20 characters fluorescent display.
When the self regenerable internal Zero Air generator is installed, SONIMIX 6000D1 OP1, the
instrument is totally independant from the external source of compressed Air.

3) SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION AND ACCESSIBLE FUNCTIONS
3.1 INTRODUCTION
The SONIMIX 6000D1 is a sophisticated calibration system and the ideal companion of the BTX
monitors; the integrated software has been designed taking into account easy access, modularity,
adaptation to old or new installations, future evolutions of the needs and conviviality.
The remote command option is based on a very simple interface and generates three status :

The following articles are the list of the alarms, when such a case is arriving the calibrator is not
stopped but the user is supposed to identify and verify the source of alarm by pressing ENTER and
using the BOARD PANEL menu.
3.3.6.1 Hardware Alarm
One or several boards are not communicating with the MB3000. That could be due to an
interruption in the wiring or a damaged board.
3.3.6.2 AIR Alarm
The alimentation of Air pressure from the Zero Air Generator or from a gas cylinder is not setted at
a correct value. It is inferior to the minimum necessary pressure.
3.3.6.3 Heathing Alarm
This alarm is turned on when the oven’s temperature is inferior to the setted value, which is 44.5°C.
The Tolerance is +/- 0.5°C . This does not means that the stability is +/- 0.5°C, but that the mean
value was setted in the factory in a gap of 0.5°C around 45°C.
The stability is +/-0.05°C.
3.3.6.4 Overheath Alarm
The concept is similar to 3.3.6.3, but for temperature value over the maximal limits, which is 45.5°C.

4) INSTALLATION
4.1 INSTALLATION
After carefull unpacking and verification that the instrument has not been damaged during the
transport, place it in the measuring installation.
Read this operating manual and be familiar with the chapters 3 and 4.
4.1.1 FLUIDIC CONNECTIONS
Connect the SONIMIX 6000D1 inlets to the AIR supply with a stainless steel tube, specially
processed for chromatography use. In addition, the pressure reducers fixed on the cylinders must
be of good quality and cleaned; made of stainless steel with sealings in Kalrez or Chemraz.
All pressure reducers are adjusted at about 2.5 bar relative.
In order to maintain the fast response time of this calibrator, we suggest the realise the flow
diagram as described
.
The tube and fittings between the calibrator and the monitor could be be in PTFE, PFA or stainless
steel.

The SONIMIX 6000D1 could be alimented by a cylinder of ZERO AIR or by the internal ZERO AIR
GENERATOR (OP1).
WARNING : If one or several permeation tubes are installed, a ZERO AIR flow will be continuously
consumed to stabilise them; in that case and for economical reason the ZERO AIR generator option
is expressly recommended.
The purge outflow must be evacuated to a safe area or to the atmosphere through a chemical
reduction filter.
Use only Swagelok double seal system for proper tightness.
Verify on each connection the absence of leak.
