Mostaccidentswithenginescanbepreventedifyoufollowall instructionsinthismanual
andonthe engine.Someofthe mostcommonhazardsare discussedbelow,alongwith
the bestwaytoprotectyourselfandothers.
OwnerResponsibilities
lThe enginesare designed togivesafeanddependableserviceifoperated according
toinstructions.Readandunderstandthisowner smanualbefore operatingtheengine.
Failuretodo socouldresultinpersonalinjuryorequipmentdamage.
lKnowhowtostoptheenginequickly,andunderstandthe operation ofall controls.
Neverpermit anyone tooperatetheengine withoutproperinstructions.
lDonotallowchildrentooperatetheengine.Keepchildrenand petsawayfromthe
areaofoperation.
RefuelWithCare
Gasolineisextremelyflammable,and gasolinevaporcanexplode.Refueloutdoors,ina
well-ventilatedarea,withthe enginestopped. Neversmokenear gasoline,andkeep other
flamesand sparks away.Alwaysstoregasoline inanapproved container.Ifanyfuelis
spilled, makesure the areaisdrybefore startingthe engine.
HotExhaust
lThe muffler becomesveryhotduringoperation and remainshotforawhileafter
stoppingtheengine.Becarefulnottotouchthe muffler whileitishot.Letthe engine
coolbefore storingit indoors.
lTopreventfire hazardsandtoprovideadequateventilation for stationaryequipment
applications,keeptheengineatleast3feet(1meter) awayfrombuilding wallsand
other equipmentduringoperation.Donot placeflammableobjectsclosetotheengine.
Carbon MonoxideHazard
Exhaustgascontainspoisonouscarbonmonoxide.Avoidinhalation ofexhaustgas. Never
run theengine inaclosed garage or confined area.
OtherEquipment
Reviewtheinstructionsprovidedwiththeequipmentpoweredbythisengine for any
additionalsafetyprecautionsthatshouldbeobservedinconjunction withenginestartup,
shutdown, operation,orprotectiveapparelthatmaybeneededtooperatethe equipment.
