1.1 Product description
LORENTZ PS Commander connects pump controllers
securely to the IoT (internet of things).
LORENTZ CONNECTED
All LORENTZ pump systems have built-in data
logging. At each installation site, an installed
LORENTZ controller collects the performance data
from the pump system and stores it for periodic
collection. The controller uses Bluetooth™ to
communicate with the LORENTZ CONNECTED
apps allowing secure real-time data to be viewed
and historic data to be collected without physical
connections.
LORENTZ Assistant
To view real-time data or to collect historic data an
application called “Assistant” is used. Assistant runs
on the Android Operating System (smartphone or
tablet) and communicates with the controller via
Bluetooth. The communication distance is up to 10 m
(33 ft). Pump setting changes such as on/o timers
and speed control can also be made.

4 Introduction Storage and Handling 5
LORENTZ PS Commander
The Commander is used to control and read the
values and stored data of a pump system via remote
control comfortably from home, oce or on the
road. It is possible to handle several pump systems.
LORENTZ Global
This is a cloud-based water management system
which allows you to monitor and manage LORENTZ
devices anywhere in the world, whether that means
a service for one pump for a farmer or thousands
of pumps for a utility, corporate customer or
governments.
Using this service means you know exactly what is
happening in (very near) real-time. Benets include:
Reduced risk and losses from failed water delivery
Saves time and costs by reducing site visits
Allows you to plan ahead (e.g. forecast any
potential shortages)
With a LORENTZ solar pump system and Global you
can talk to your pump from anywhere.

be done with great care and diligence. Close the lid
when all work has been done.
l WARNING: Never connect any other
power source to the "SOLAR IN" terminal
than a PV module as specied below.
The PS Commander will periodically
short-circuit the input to measure the
irradiation. Any other power source
would consequently damage the device
and/or the power source itself.
a Note: If an external power supply must
be used, do not connect the PV module.
Connect a 12V DC power supply to the
battery input instead of the battery.
Irradiation measurement will not be
possible in this conguration.
4.1 Power supply
The PS Commander gains its grid independent
power from a battery charged by a PV module. The
required battery and PV module must be ordered
separately.
2 Storage and Handling
On receipt of your product check that the packaging
is undamaged and complete. If any abnormality is
found, contact your distributor. It should remain in
the packaging until it is to be installed. Handle the
PS Commander with care and avoid unnecessary
impacts and shocks. The required battery and PV
module must be ordered separately.
Prolonged intermediate storage in an environment
of high humidity and uctuating temperatures must
be avoided. Moisture condensation may damage
electrical and metal parts. Non-compliance will void
any warranty. It is recommended to store the parts
in a closed and dry room. The PS Commander can be
stored in the range of -4 °F to 122 °F (–20 °C to 50 °C).
It should not be exposed to direct sunlight.

6 Troubleshooting
6.1 Missing pump connection
If a pump controller does not connect to the PS
Commander check that:
The pump controller is either a PS2, PSk2 or PSk3
controller. Other controllers are not supported by
the Commander.
a green system light is shown on the pump
controller
there is no active Assistant connection to the
pump system
there are not more than 8 PS Controllers within
range of the PS Commander. In this situation the
9th pump would not connect.
the Bluetooth signal strength is not impaired by
obstacles, walls or other interfering signals or
mounting the PS Commander in a metal box
5 Start-up and operation
Before installing the device it is advised to register
the system(s) in partnerNET Sites and to start the
monitoring service in partnerNET in order to activate
the SIM card.
The Commander is designed following "plug'n'play"
principles for ease of use.
Upon powering the device it will automatically
connect to the best network available
search for nearby Lorentz pump controllers and
forward their data to the remote management
platform LORENTZ Global
a NOTE: The Commander will regularly
search for new Lorentz controllers within
reach. If required, the Commander can
be congured to only connect to specic
pump controllers via the LORENTZ
Assistant app.
The PS Commander must be mounted vertically to a
wall or a pole using appropriate xings.
Mounting hole distances (Width x Height, Hole
Diameter):
Product Dimensions
PS Commander 270x150, Ø6mm
[10,63x5,9 Ø0,236in
Place the PV-Module holder at least 10cm (3.95 in)
above the PS Commander. The holes in the wall, for
the PV module holder, have to be 330mm (13.0 in)
away from each other. Use M8 screws.
4.4 Placement of the PS Commander
The Commander must be placed near to the pump
controller. The maximum Bluetooth range is up to
10m but depends on the surrounding conditions.
For example; walls, shelters or other signals may
weaken the signal strength. Keep the PV module free
of shadow and with a South (Northern Hemisphere)
or North (Southern Hemisphere) orientation. The PV
module must be kept clean from dirt and snow.
It is recommended to complete the wiring, SIM card
installation, battery installation and an established
pump connection before nally mounting the PS
Commander to a wall. See the Start-up section for
more information.

10 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting 11
if the circumstances require, test the PS
Commander in an area with a known good signal
(within 1km of a radio mast)
the PS Commander is not installed in a location
where the signal will be impaired. Signal strength
will be reduced by walls, metal objects, obstacles,
being too distant from each other, interfering
signal, etc.)
if the circumstances require, test the PS
Commander in an open area directed to the radio
mast
the antenna cable is not broken
The PS commander will try to nd a network until it
is connected. If it does not nd a network there is a
risk of emptying the battery.
6.3 No connection to LORENTZ server
If the PS Commander is not able to establish a
connection to the LORENTZ server contact your
distributor for further information.
6.2 No connection to telecommunication
network
If the PS Commander does not connect to the
telecommunication network check that:
a supported network is available (19-001900/19-
001880: 2G/3G; 19-001860/19-001870: 2G/4G
(LTE-M1 or LTE-NB)
the SIM card is well seated
you are using the SIM card supplied by LORENTZ,
the PS Commander will not work with any other
SIM cards
the antenna cable is screwed tightly to the
terminal
there is a mobile phone signal at the site
the monitoring service for the system was started
in partnerNET Sites
a NOTE: You could use your smartphone
to roughly ascertain the signal strength
at the installation site.
6.4 Low Voltage Disconnect
The Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD) activates if the
battery`s voltage drops below a set amount of volts.
The Commander goes into a software LVD state at
11.9 volts and a hardware LVD at 11.8 volts. The LVD
is a protective feature to safe the battery from deep
discharge. During LVD there is no Bluetooth or 2G /
3G connection possible.
The PS Commander returns to normal mode after
the battery recovers to 12.2 volts. The voltage is
checked once per minute.
6.5 SIM card
To insert the SIM card into the 2G/3G terminal make
sure that the SIM card's contacts are facing left and
that the cut-o corner is pointing upwards as the
bottom gure shows.
Figure 3: Insert SIM card
The SIM card must “click” in and should be ush with
the outer case (of the terminal). Use a pen or small
screw driver to gently push it in (not much pressure
needed).
To remove the SIM card push the card in slightly
to release the lock and the card will be pop out
automatically. You can remove now the SIM card. Do
not pull the card while it is locked in the terminal.
