General safety directions for the operator/user
– If hot or cold equipment parts pose a danger
then they must be protected by the operator/user
against contact with people. Protective covers
for energized parts (e.g. terminal clamps) must
not be removed when the equipment is running.
All government and local regulations must be
observed at all times. Any danger to persons
from electrical energy must be excluded by using
good installation practices and working to local
regulations. (For example VDE in Germany).
Safety directions for maintenance, inspection
and assembly work – It is the user’s responsibility
to make sure that all maintenance, inspection
and assembly work is performed exclusively by
authorized and qualied experts suciently
informed through careful perusal of the Operating
Instructions. The accident prevention regulations
must be observed. All work on the equipment
should be done when it is not operational and
ideally electrically isolated. Immediately upon
completion of the work, all safety and protective
equipment must be restored and activated.
Unauthorized changes and manufacturing
of spare parts – Any conversion or changes of
the equipment may only be undertaken after
consulting the manufacturer. Original spare parts
and accessories authorized by the manufacturer
guarantee operational safety. Using non-
authorized parts may void any liability on the part
of the manufacturer.

7 Product Description
The LORENTZ PV Combiner 1000-125-4 is a PV
connection box to be used with our PSk pump
systems. The product is able to combine up to four
(4) DC inputs in parallel coming from multiple “PV
Disconnect 1000-50-5” and connect them to the
pump controller.
This is done by using the screw terminal clamps
located inside the box.
These terminal clamps are easily accessible by
unscrewing the lid.
The wiring instructions of the PV Combiner
1000-125-4 can be found in section "9.2.3 Wiring
Connection", see Figure 12 on page 13.
l WARNING – Never use this product
without a PV Disconnect. The use of a
properly sized DC disconnect switch is an
important safety measure and obligatory
for a professional installation of a solar
pumping system.

7.2 Further related LORENTZ products
Some large installations may require additional
accessories to connect the PV wiring of the system
in a proper way; in the section "8 PV Wiring diagram
for PSk Pump Systems" on page 9; you will nd a
graphical explanation of two scenarios where these
accessories are included. Below is a brief description
of these, please consider them depending on the
system to be installed.
7.2.1 PV Disconnect 1000-50-5 (Item No. 19-001965)
The LORENTZ PV Disconnect 1000-50-5 is a PV
connection box with an integrated disconnect switch
designed to be used with our PSk pump systems.
For more information, please refer to the manual of
the PV Disconnect 1000-50-5.
The product can combine up to ve (5) x PV module
strings in parallel and connect them through
the enclosed DC disconnect switch to the pump
controller.
For more details of the installation using the PV
Combiner 1000-125-4 please see Figure 5 on page
9 and Figure 6 on page 10.

1000-50-5:
7.2.2 PV Combiner 1000-15-3-F (Item No. 19-001940)
and PV Combiner 1000-15-6-F (Item No. 19-001945)
The LORENTZ PV Combiner 1000-15-3-F and 1000-
15-6-F are PV connection boxes with fuses to be
used optionally with our PS2 and PSk pump systems
to protect the system against short-circuits in the PV
eld. The product can combine up to three (1000-15-
3-F) or six (1000-15-6-F) DC inputs in parallel coming
from solar arrays.
For more information, please refer to the manual of
the PV Combiner 1000-15-3/6-F.
For optimal protection of the PS2/PSk controller, it is
advisable to protect the strings with fuses to prevent
a short circuit coming from PV array.
In this case, the PV Combiner 1000-15-3-F or
PV Combiner 1000-15-6-F must be used so that
the PV Disconnect switch can operate within its
specications.
For more details of the installation using the PV
Combiner 1000-125-4 please see Figure 6 on page
10.

The PV Protect 1000-125 will provide an enhanced
level of protection from electrical surges (for
example indirect lightning strikes). This accesory
is installed on the DC input line close to the pump
controller.
For more information, please refer to the manual of
the PV Protect 1000 -125.
For eective operation it requires a reliable ground
connection.

9.2 Wiring
9.2.1 General
Before starting to work on the electrical system
make sure that all components are disconnected
from the power source. Make sure each PV module
string is disconnected at some point so that no
voltage is present during wiring of the system. Only
reconnect the PV strings and switch on the system
when all work is nished.
a CAUTION – Loose connections are the
most common cause of system failures.
Pull each wire connection SLIGHTLY to
conrm that it is tightened securely.
Make sure that the cable glands are tightened and
that the cables t the clamping range of the cable
gland to ensure a proper seal.
Note: The PV Combiner 1000-125-4 is shipped
with a plastic bag containing smaller rubber
inserts for the cable glands to t cables with small
diameter.
Figure 9: Rubber inserts for small diameter cables:
Solar-direct systems use a variety of array
congurations. PV Modules can be connected in
series and also in parallel.
Refer to the System Wiring Diagram which
is provided by COMPASS and to the module
manufacturer’s instructions. Make good connections
that will last for many years. Most system failures are
caused by loose, corroded or shorted connections.
l WARNING – SOLAR-DIRECT systems
only - do not connect any electrical load
to the solar array if it is not part of the
LORENTZ Pump system. Connection of
a battery charger, active solar tracker
controller, electric fence charger, or other
load simultaneously with LORENTZ pump
systems may lead to improper operation.
9.2.2 Connecting the DC Input Cables
To access the clamping terminals, open the lid of the
housing and unscrew the touch protection (4x plastic
screws, PH3):
Figure 10: Screw locations for the lid (4pcs):
Use only the cable entries provided to bring the DC
inputs into the housing. Remove the plastic sealing
cap of the cable gland in advance. The cable conduits
must be tightened properly to provide an eective
seal.
Figure 11: Left (green): Correctly tightened / Right
(Red): Not tightened:
9.2.3 Wiring Connection
DC Input Cables (coming from PV Disconnect
1000-50-5):
Connect the DC Input cables with positive pole
"Red" to the left terminals labeled with “(+) In” and
all cables with negative pole "Black" to the right
terminals labeled with “(-) In ”. See Figure 12.
DC Output Cables (going to PV Protect or
Controller depending on the installation):
Connect the two cables leaving the box in the output
of the PV Combiner labeled with “Red (+) Out" and
"Black (-) Out” and connect them to the PV Protect
or Controller depending on the installation. For
more details regarding the connections to the inputs
of these devices, please refer to the respective
manuals.

l WARNING – Make sure that all
terminal connections are conducted
properly to avoid damage and abnormal
operation. All terminal clamps must be
checked after installation!
l WARNING – Make sure that all PV
strings are connected with the correct
polarity or the PV Modules will get
damaged immediately.
l WARNING – Before connecting the
PV Modules to each other make sure that
the installation is complete.
10 Troubleshooting
Please read this section before calling for help.
If you call for help, please refer to the model and
serial numbers. The serial number can be found on
a small label with a barcode on the inner side of the
lid.
If the pump does not run
Most problems are caused by wrong connections
(in a new installation) or failed connections. Failed
connections are normally a result of a terminal /
clamp not being tightened properly or a wire slipping
out of a terminal.
Please check if:
The screws of all terminal clamps are tight.
The polarity of all connected PV strings is the
same and correct.
Wire stripping is suitable for the terminals, no
clamped cable isolation.
General condition of wires or signs of damage.
The cables are corroded.
There are short circuits in the system.
Inspect all wires and connections
Look carefully for incorrect or damaged wiring.
(especially in a new installation).
