GENERALINFORMATION
1.1 Introduction
The Ltl Acorn M Series (Model Ltl5210MC and Ltl5210MM) are the second generation of
ourLtl5210scoutingcamera.BundledwiththeMMSmodule(MultimediaMessagingService)
batterybox(Part#LTLMM),thestandardscoutingcamera(Part#Ltl5210M)canbeupgraded
to work as a remote cellular camera. With its highly sensitive Passive InfraRed (PIR) sensor,
the camera detects the sudden change of ambient temperature caused by moving game in a
regionofinterest(ROI),triggerstotakepictures/videos,andsendstheimagesviaGSMnetwork
to theusers cellphone oremail account.

YouneedtopurchasetheSIMcardfromyour
local Mobile Phone Network Operators
(MPNO), making sure they provide
MultimediaMessagingService(MMS).Ask
them for the relevant information to
configuretheMMSsettingsonyourcamera.

Open the battery compartment cover, slide
theSIMcardintheslotandlockit.

Alternativelythecameracanrunonanexternal6V~12VDCpowersource(optional).Whenboth
external power and batteries are connected, the camera will be powered by the external one
preferentially.Hooked upwithour externalsolarpanel(purchased separately), thecameracan
workinthefieldoveroneyearwithoutchangingbatteries.
Whenbatterylevelgetslow,the MotionIndicatorintheLEDarraywillflashblue.TheMMS
Wirelesscamerawill automaticallysend aBattery Lowtextalertto theusers cellphone or
emailaccount.
2.3InsertSDCard
Thecameradoesnotcomewithinternalmemory.SoitwillnotworkwithoutaSD(SecureDigital)
memorycardorSDHC(HighCapacity)card.BeforeinsertingtheSDcardintothecard

slot,pleasemakesurethewriteprotectswitchonthesideoftheSDcardisoff(NOTinthe
Lockposition).Thesupportedmemorycapacityisupto32GB.Ifyouuseacardcapableof
above32GB,makesureyoutestitbeforeputtingthecamerainuse.

2.4EnterTestMode
Switchtothe TEST positiontoentertheTestmode.Inthismodeyoucantakepicturesorvideo
clipslikearegulardigitalcamera,orentertheMenutosetupparameters.Onthekeypadthere
arefourshortcutfunctionalkeys(seeFigure23)workingasbelow:

Under the test mode, one useful function you would like is testing the work area of the PIR
(PassiveInfrared)sensor,specificallythesensingangleanddistance.Toperformthetest:
· Firststrapthecameraonatreeaimingtheregionofinterest(ROI).
· WalkslowlyfromonesideoftheROItotheotherparalleltothecamera.Trydifferent
distancesandanglesfromthecamera.
· IftheMotionIndicatorflashesblue,itindicatesthepositionfromwhereyouaredetected
byoneofthesidePrepPIRsensors.IftheMotionIndicatorflashesred,itindicatesthe
positionfromwhereyouarecapturedbythemainPIRsensor.
By doing this test, you can find the best placement when mounting and aiming the Ltl Acorn
camera.Ingeneral,youarerecommendedtoplacethecamera3to6feet(1to2meters)abovethe
ground.
Toavoidpotentialfalsetriggersduetotemperatureandmotiondisturbances,pleasedonotaimthe
cameraataheatsource(i.e.thesun)ornearbytreebranchesandlimbs.Theidealdirectiontoaim
atisNorthorSouth.Also,removeanylimbsclosetothefrontofthecamera.
2.5EnterLiveMode
SwitchtotheONpositiontoenterthelivemode.TheMotionIndicatorwillflashredforabout10
secondsandthecamerastartsworkingbyitselfwithoutanymanualhandling.Itwillatonceshoot
picturesorrecordvideoswhengameorotherobjectsenterthePIRareaofthemainsensordirectly.
If the game enters the PIR area of the prep sensors from the side, the prep sensors detectthe
movementandactivatethecamera.WhilethegamekeepsmovingintothePIRareaofthemain
sensor,thecameratakesphotos/videosimmediately.IfthegameroamsawayafterenteringthePIR
areaoftheprepsensors,thecamerawillpoweroffandenterstandbymode.
2.6AdvantagesofPrepSensors
Ingeneral,tosavebatterypower,anInferRedcameraisinsleepmode,withonlythePIRsensor
working.WhengameisdetectedbythePIRsensor,thecameraispoweredonandstartsshooting
pictures.Thetimeperiodfrombeingactivatedtostartingfiringiscalledtriggertime.Thetrigger
time varies among different scouting camera brands in the market, generally from 1 to 5 plus
seconds. Our Ltl Acorn scouting camera has an impressive 1.2 second trigger time. However,
whengamepassesacrossveryquickly,thepicturemayonlycapturetherearpartofthebody,and
possiblynothingatall.
WiththeuniquesideprepPIRsensorsdesign,ourLtlAcornsolvesthisissue.Thecombinationof
thetwosideprepsensorsandthemainsensorcomesupwitha100to120°angleofinduction,a
verywidescopefaroutweighingthe50°angleofthecameralens.Whengamefirstcrossesthe
PIRareaoftheprepsensor,thecameraisactivatedandreadytoshootafter1second.Ifthegame
continuallyentersinto thePIRareaofthemainsensor,the camera takespicturesimmediately,
thereforecatchingthewholebodyofthegame.Thissplitsecondprocesscouldbeasshortas0.2
second.

InthecasethegamebrowsesonlyinthePIRareaoftheprepsensors,toavoidthecamerabeing
poweredonconstantly,thesystemisdesignedtoworkinthefollowingway:Ifthegamedoesnot
enterthePIRareaofthemainsensorandthereforenottriggerthemainsensor,thecamerawill
poweroffafter3seconds.IfthetriggereventsconsecutivelyhappenedtwiceonlyinthePIRarea
oftheprepsensors,thecamerawillnotbeactivatedbythesideprepsensors,butonlybythemain
sensor.SolateronwhenthegameentersthePIRareaofthemainsensoreventually,sinceitisnot
infastmovement,thepicturewillbyallmeanscapturethewholebodyofthegamebasedonour
standard1.2secondresponsetime.

3.2 FileFormat
TheSDcardstoresalloriginalpicturesandvideosinthefolder\DCIM\100IMAGE,andallMMS
pictures in the folder \MMS\ with the same filename. Pictures are saved with filenames like
IMAG0001.JPGandvideoslikeIMAG0001.AVI.
Inthe OFF mode,youcanusetheprovidedUSBcabletodownloadthefilestoacomputer.Or
youcan putthe SDcardtoa SDcardreader, plugina computer,and browsethefilesonthe
computerwithoutdownloading.
TheAVIvideofilescanbeplayedbackonmostpopularmediaplayers,suchasWindowsMedia
Player,QuickTime,etc.
3.3 SetupCameraonPC
Youcansetupyourcameraand/orMMSfunctiononyourhomePC.RuntheSetup.exefileon
theenclosed
CD.Youcanalsovisitthenationaldistributorswebsitetodownloadtheprogram,oraskyour
retailerfordirection.
Clickon CameraSetup,andyouwillseethefollowinginterface:

toentertheTESTmode.AmessagewillshowupontheTFTdisplay,indicatingtheCamerahas
beensuccessfullysetup.Youaresetwiththecamera.

or Manual.Ifyouchoose Auto,thenyouneedtochoosethecountry
andtheMobilePhoneNetworkOperator(MPNO).Inputthe
phonenumberand/oremailaddressyoudliketheMMSpicturestobesentto.Youcanenterupto
threedifferentphonenumbersand/oremailaccounts.
Ifyouchoose Manual tomanuallyinputalltheparameters,youneedtocontactyourMobile
PhoneNetworkOperator(MPNO)tohavethemprovideyoualltherequiredinformationsuchas
URL,APN,Gateway,andPort.
Note:TheMMSparametersofthemajorMPNOsineachcountryhavebeenprestoredinthe
programontheenclosedCD.Youresuggestedtochoose Auto toletthesystemtosetupthe
MMS.However,becauseeachlocalMPNOhastheirownsettingsfortheirMMSservice,andthose
settingscanchangeovertime,youmayneedtoacquirethesettingsfromyourMPNOifthe Auto
selectedsettingsfailtowork.Ifyoufindoutthosesettingshavechangedaccordingtothe
informationprovidedbyyourMPNO,oryouhavesettingsfromyourMPNOthatisnotonour
Operatorslist,pleasenotifyussowecanupdateourprogram.
Clickon tochoosethedirectorytosavethesettings,usuallyundertheroot

·CREG:SIMcardispasswordprotected,ordeactivatedduetozerobalanceinthe
account,ornotabletoregisterwiththeGSMsystem.
·CGREG:NotabletoregisterwithGPRSnetwork.
·COPS:SearchingfortheMNPOoftheSIMcard.Oncefound,theoperatorsname
andthesignalstrengthwillshowonthescreen.
If NoMM1 showsonthescreen,itmeanstheMMSmoduleisnotfound(installed).Ifyour
cameraisastandardModelLtl5210MC,thenitisOKbecauseyourcameraisnotequipped
withMMSmodulebatterybox.IfitisaMMSModelLtl5210MM,youcantakeoutfrom
