screens, holding the button for greater than a half second performs specific functions as
described later in this manual.

MOLIVA3D C3 SPLASH SCREEN
On power-up, the C3 will display a screen similar to the one as seen in Figure 3.
Figure 3 - Splash Screen
This screen appears for approximately two seconds and displays generic information including the
Moliva LLC logo and Custom Climate Control version number. The date on the bottom is the code
compile date for troubleshooting purposes.
MOLIVA3D C3 OPERATION
By pressing the screen select button, the C3 will cycle through the three screens in the order shown in
Figure 4. NOTE: Holding the Screen Select button for greater than half a second performs specific
functions for the currently active screen. If the user wishes to cycle through screens, the user must tap
the button and not hold it!

MOLIVA3D C3 CLIMATE CONTROL SCREEN
The standard climate control screen is shown in Figure 5 with a description of each function. Note that
all symbols cannot display simultaneously as show in the figure (for example, defrost at the same time
as air towards the head).
Figure 5 - Climate Control Screen
The user may purchase an external temperature sensor, P/N MR308167, and connect it to the Climate
Control for outside air temperature. If no sensor is connected, the display will always read 68°F. The text
“OUTSIDE” will appear above the temperature reading and the temperature cursor will assume the color
of the temperature band that it is pointing at.

MOLIVA3D C3 TO LCDBC CONNECTION
In order to communicate with LCDBC, three requirements must be met:
 Connection from the C3 to the LCDBC.
o A serial straight-through cable is included with the C3 to connect to the newest LCDBC
version. However, an older version requires the connection as seen in Figure 7.
 LCDBC with upgraded firmware that contains communication functionality.
o For LCDBC firmware upgrade instructions, please visit http://lcdbc.xp3.biz/
 LCDBC Configuration
o When powering on the LCDBC, push the rotary switch in (rotary switch button) and hold
it to enter configuration mode. Scroll until the text Datalog appears and change it to
TFT (Datalog=TFT) and push the rotary switch button to save. Remove and reapply
power to the LCDBC to boot it up normally.
Figure 7 - Earlier LCDBC Model Connection to C3
When the function button is pressed to switch to either the LCDBC Diagnostic or LCDBC Plot Screens, C3
will attempt to make a connection to the LCDBC. If the C3 is unable to connect, the screen shown in
Figure 8 will appear.
Figure 8 - LCDBC Connection Error
The C3 will attempt three times every three seconds to make connection to the LCDBC. If connection
cannot be established, the C3 will revert back to the climate control screen.

MOLIVA3D C3 LCDBC DIAGNOSTIC SCREEN
The LCDBC Diagnostic Screen is split into three sections: The Boost Pressure gauge on the left, the AFR
gauge on the right, and the LCDBC Screen Output below the red line. The LCDBC rotary switch can be
used to cycle through the various LCDBC settings.
Max Boost is displayed above the Boost gauge and can be reset by holding the function button until an
orange perimeter appears around the Boost gauge and then releasing the function button.

MOLIVA3D C3 LCDBC PLOT SCREEN
Figure 9 - C3 LCDBC Plot Initial Screen
The C3 LCDBC Plot screen performs a sweep of AFR and Boost with respect to RPM allowing for real-
time analysis of car performance. The steps to use this functionality are as follows:
Step A – Initial Screen. Hold
the function button to begin
sweep activation.
Step B – Release the
function button once the
red perimeter appears
around the text “Hold
Button to Trigger”.
Step C – Press on the
accelerator. The accelerator
must be at 50% or greater to
activate data acquisition.
Step D – C3 is requesting
and subsequently plotting
data from the LCDBC. When
C3 detects an RPM slow
down, it ends acquisition.
Step E – Acquisition is
complete and data is shown
on the screen. After several
seconds, “Hold Button to
Trigger” will appear again if
another sweep attempt is
desired.

MOLIVA3D C3 FIRMWARE UPGRADE
As the product evolves and bugs are fixed, there may be firmware upgrades available. Here are the steps
to upgrade the software as releases occur:
 Download Teensy Bootloader: https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/loader.html
 Connect a USB to micro-USB cable from the computer to the C3.
 Ensure the C3 unit is on by having the car on. The C3 will not get power from the USB.
 Open Teensy Bootloader and click on the icon circled in red as shown in Figure 10.
Figure 10 - Select HEX File
 Locate the HEX file that contains the program image and double-click on it.
 Carefully remove the four screws on the C3 chassis to expose the components and press the
button circled in red as shown in Figure 11.
Figure 11 - Inside C3 Chassis
 The Teensy Bootloader should indicate the teensy is being programmed. When it is complete,
the C3 will reboot and the new version should appear on the splash screen.
