5. Preparing the camcorder
5.1. Inserting and removing the memory card
In order to be able to shoot videos or photos with the camcorder, you must rst insert
a memory card for the recordings and photos to be saved on.
Insert a microSD/microSDHC memory card into the Action Camcorder as shown in the
illustration. Make sure that the side of
the memory card with writing on it is
facing the monitor and the contacts
on the memory card are inserted
rst. Push the memory card into the
camcorder until you hear it click.
To remove the memory card push it
again. The memory card will then be
pushed out of the device slightly and
can be removed.
Note:
• Format a memory card on the computer before you use it for the first time in the camcorder.
• MicroSD and microsSDHC memory cards with a maximum capacity of 32 GB can be used. Class 6 or higher
memory cards are recommended.

9
5.2. Charging the battery
To charge the integrated lithium ion battery, switch the camera o and connect the
USB cable to the USB port on the
camera. Connect the other end of
the USB cable to the USB port on a
computer with USB 2.0 or higher or
a 5V and at least 500 mA USB mains
adapter.
When charging is in progress the
charge indicator will light up red and
will go out as soon as the battery is
fully charged.
5.3. Using the underwater protective housing
By using the underwater protective housing supplied, you can shoot underwater with
the Action Camcorder, down to depths of 10 metres.
Make sure that the inside of the underwater protective housing is clean and dry before
you put the camcorder in it. In particular, check that there is no dirt on the seal and the
seal is undamaged before each use.
Make sure there is a memory card in the camcorder and the mode switch is set to your
desired shooting mode.
The camera shouldn‘t be used more than one hour underwater to prevent any dama-
ges.
Note:
• It takes a maximum of 4 hours for the battery to charge fully.
Note:
• In order to determine whether the underwater protective housing is watertight, you can carry out the
following test:
• Close the underwater protective housing without a camera inside. Then completely immerse it under water
for around 1 minute. After removing it, dry the outside of the housing and then open the housing. If the
inside is dry then the housing is sealed.

10
Now insert the camera, lens rst, into
the underwater protective housing. In
doing so, the positions of the on/o
button and the shutter button on the
camera and housing must be aligned.
Close the underwater protective
housing and squeeze the cover and
housing together rmly. Hook the
latch on the side into the bracket on
the cover. Then lock the latch by
pressing the clip marked with an
arrow forwards against the housing.
In order to open the underwater
protective housing again after use,
pull on the clip marked with an
arrow until it springs open. You can
then completely open the housing
and remove the camera. Always dry
the underwater protective housing
before opening it in order to avoid
getting moisture on the camcorder.
Note:
• The underwater protective housing also provides protection from rain or water spray, for example when
the Action Camcorder is mounted on a helmet. However, please note that the sound quality is reduced on
recordings made while using the underwater protective housing.
• After use in salt-water, thoroughly wash the underwater protective housing using clean water. Otherwise
the hinge could corrode and salt could stick to the seal ring, which can lead to damage to the seal.
• The seal ring can be removed and washed separately using clean water. Do not dry the seal ring with a cloth
as this could cause damage.

11
5.4. Using the helmet mount
You can attach the Action Camcorder to a bike or motor cycle helmet or other suitable
surface such as a surf board, using the helmet mount supplied.
First, stick the 3M adhesive pads
included in the package into the
recesses on the underside of the
helmet mount. Remove the second
protective lm from the adhesive
pads and then stick the mount on to
the cleaned surface of the helmet or
surf board.
The adhesive pads can be removed
from virtually any surface without
leaving a residue.
The Action Camcorder can only be
used on the helmet mount when
inside the underwater protective
housing. To do this, screw the screw
mount tightly onto the tripod thread
on the underwater housing. Then sli-
de the screw mount into the recess on
the mount plate until you hear it click.
In order to remove the screw mount
from the mount plate, squeeze the
front clasps together rmly and slide
it out.
Note:
• WARNING: The helmet mount is only suitable for speeds up to 50 km/h!

12
You can also adjust the angle of the camera using the screw on the side of the screw
mount. To do this, unscrew it a few turns and move the mount into the desired positi-
on. Then
carefully tighten the screw back up.
