Introduction
Overview
This section provides an overview of the MagneMover LITE air-cooled motors. These
motors include air inlet and exhaust ports to provide forced air cooling of the motor, which
allows larger continuous current and power draw.
Air-cooled Motor Overview
Air-cooled Motor – The MagneMover LITE linear synchronous motor (LSM) with integral
ports for air connections. Both ports can be used to provide active cooling using forced air
convection for sustained high-power operation. One port can be used to provide positive
pressure for the motor body to prevent ingress of foreign material.
The motor is delivered with plugs installed in the ports, which allows the motor to be used as
a standard MagneMover LITE motor. The plugs must be removed and one-touch fittings
installed to use the air-cooled option.

•Guide Rail – Ensures vehicles (pucks) are maintained in the proper relationship to
the motors.
•Air Ports – Provides a connection for pressurized air that is supplied to the motor for
positively pressurizing the motor body or for forced air cooling.

Label Identification and Location
Safety and identification labels are placed on those MagneMover LITE components that
require them to provide hazard identification and information about the components at the
point of use. This section describes each label, identifies its location, and for safety labels
identifies the hazard and possible injuries.

Mechanical, Electrical, Magnetic Hazards
See the MagneMover LITE User Manual for detailed hazard and safety information.
CAUTION
Crush/Pinch Hazard
Moving mechanisms have no obstruction sensors.
Do not operate the MagneMover LITE components without barriers in
place or personal injury could result in the squeezing or compression
of fingers or other body parts between moving mechanisms.
CAUTION
Strong Magnets
To avoid severe injury, people with pacemakers and other medical
electronic implants must stay away from the magnet array on the
vehicles (pucks).
To avoid injury from strong magnetic attractive forces:
•Handle only one vehicle (puck) or magnet array at a time.
•Do not place any body parts, such as fingers, between a vehicle
(puck) or magnet array and any ferrous material or another magnet
array.
•Vehicles (pucks) or magnet arrays not being used must be secured
individually in isolated packaging.
To avoid damage to watches, electronic instruments, and magnetic
media (for example, cell phones, memory disks/chips, credit cards, and
tapes) keep these items away from the magnet arrays.
Recycling and Disposal Information
See the MagneMover LITE User Manual for all disposal information.

Design Guidelines
Overview
The primary benefit of cooling the motor is that heat that is generated from motor operation
can be quickly removed from the motor with convection, thus allowing larger continuous
current and power draw. Additionally, the motors can be operated in a positive-pressure
mode, which prevents ingress of foreign material into the motor body.

Electrical Specifications
The MagneMover LITE air-cooled motors are electrically the same as the standard MM
LITE motors. All electrical information for the motors including connector identification and
pinouts is provided in the MagneMover LITE User Manual.
Pneumatic Specifications
The MagneMover LITE air-cooled motors are designed to allow a continuous flow of clean,
dry air to provide additional cooling. These motors can be run as normal MM LITE motors
by installing the supplied 3/8 in plugs in the port locations.

Installation
Unpacking and Moving
The MagneMover LITE air-cooled motors arrive from the factory as a component ready for
final installation. The information that is required to install these components is provided in
the MagneMover LITE User Manual.
Installing Pneumatic Lines for Pressurizing
A pressurized air line supplying clean, dry air is run to the system and then distributed to all
motors that require pressurization. The exhaust port on the motors must be sealed using one
of the supplied 3/8 in plugs. Input pressure (1 psi max) is adjusted to ensure the motor
housing does not expand.
Figure 6: Pressurized Motor Pneumatic Diagram
The motors use push-to-connect fittings with an internal collet that accepts 12mm OD flex
tubing.
1. Run the pneumatic line from the facility source through a POU filter and dryer.
2. Run the main air line for the clean, dry air to the first motor.
3. Install a T fitting on the main air line.
4. Connect the T fitting to the A1 (air in) port on the motor using 12mm OD flex tubing.
5. Continue the main air line to the next motor.
6. Repeat Step 3 through Step 5 for each motor.
7. Install a plug on the end of the main air line.
1. Seal the A2 (air out) port on the motor using a Zinc-plated steel plug.
