PRODUCT OVERVIEW
1. Negative Ionization. Negative ions magnetically attracts floating particles, causing them
to become too heavy to remain airborne. As a result, they settle out of the air, so that
they can no longer be inhaled. The negative ions also cause particles to magnetically
attract to the collector plates just inside the 6220. The unit uses 17 stainless steel,
electrodes to produce a high density of negative ions (60,000,000 per cm³).
2. Electrostatic Precipitation. The electrostatic charge created between the negatively
charged ionizer pins and the positively charged dust collection plates causing
undesirable particles and pollutants to become magnetically trapped on the plates.
PLACEMENT
Where to put the Air Purifier
•Elevated Location. Optimal elevation is 5 feet or more off the ground, although it is not
absolutely necessary to place the unit high off the ground.
•Air Flow. If you can place the unit near a source of air flow for the room or area, such as
by a fan or supply vent, the negative ions will be distributed more effectively.
•Open Area. Place the unit where it’s output will achieve more effective distribution.
•Centralized Location. The more this air ionizer is centrally located, the more area it can
cover. Placing it in a corner or against a wall will typically suffice for most rooms though.
•Near Source of Pollution. The closer the unit is placed to a source of pollution, the
more effective it will be.
NOTE: For people with respiratory problems.
1. Individuals affected by respiratory problems such as asthma or allergies are the ones
who most need the pure and fresh air provided by the Maier ionizers. We therefore
suggest putting the 6220 in the room where these individuals would spend most of
their time.
2. For individuals who have chronic respiratory problems, we recommend that the Air
Purifier be set at low at night time, if the ionizer is in the bedroom, since respiratory activities
differ in sleep.
Since the unit produces moderate levels of Active Oxygen (Ozone), it is not recommended to
breathe too closely in front of the grill. Maintain a distance of at least 19” from the unit.
Vehicle Placement Instructions
Place the ionizer behind the back seat, if there are no children seated in the back seat.
If there are children, place the ionizer on the front passenger seat, or attach onto the
dashboard, using the adhesive pads which are included in the box.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Insert the end (hollow plug) of the cable of the AC/DC adapter into the DC socket
(Marked as DC12V) on the side of the air purifier (The DC adapter is for vehicle use only).
2. Insert the adapter in the electric socket or the vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket.
3. Press the power switch, which will activate the red LED light on the other side of the
purifier. You will be able to see a blue glow at the tip of a few of the electrodes inside the
grill. You will also hear and feel a slight blowing from the electrodes.
4. Press the LEVEL-adjusting switch to adjust the “HI” or “LO” operating mode.
Settings
1. “ON” “HI” - runs at full capacity; green LED lights up.
2. “ON” “LO” - Automatically runs in intervals of 2 minutes “on” and 3 minutes “off”; yellow
LED lights up.
3. “OFF”.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Make sure unit is unplugged before performing any maintenance!
1. Cleaning the Dust Collection Plate
The dust collection plate should be cleaned about every 20-30 days. Cleaning the dust
collection plate is very simple to do. You just need to loosen the two screws that hold the
dust collection plate in. Then you just need to pull the dust collection plate out, and wipe it
off with a damp cloth. You should then wipe it off with a dry towel, and reinsert it back into its
slot. If there is difficult-to-remove residue on the plate, you should use a household cleaner,
such as ammonia or bleach, to help remove it.
CAUTION
Plate’s edges are sharp so please use a towel or thick fabric to avoid injuries.
Note: When removing the collector plates for periodic cleaning, please note that it must be
returned to the unit in exactly the same position for a flush fit. Reversing the position will
result in an incomplete closure and the unit will not function properly.

2. Maintenance of the Negative Ion-Producing Electrodes (Needlepoints)
Every 2-3 months, or if the unit begins making noise, the dust and particulate should be
wiped off from the ends of each of the needlepoints inside the front grill of the unit. First,
make sure that the unit is unplugged. Next, remove the collector plate (see the photo above).
Now, the needlepoints will be accessible through the opening left by the removal of the
collector plate. To clean the needlepoints, either wipe off the dust with cloth, or a cotton swab
(like Q-tip) dipped in rubbing alcohol.
3. Cleaning the front grill
If the front grill has collected enough dust, the unit can generate sparks. The situation like
this arises when Negative Ions generated by the needlepoints gets blocked by the dust
collected on the front grill. To avoid this kind of situation, make sure the front grill has no
visible sign of dust particles. If there is dust, then use a cleaning brush or a vacuum cleaner
and remove the dust.

6
TROUBLESHOOTING
Strange smell from the unit
The 6220 produces ozone only as a byproduct of the needlepoint ionization, creating
only moderate and safe levels. Depending on the size of the room, and the ventilation, it will
produce about 0.015 to 0.04 ppm (parts per million) of ozone, which is well within FDA and
OSHA standards.
The best way to remedy a strong ozone smell is to somehow increase air flow near or
around the unit, or place it in a more open area, where there is a better air current. Examples
can include turning on a ceiling fan, temporarily opening a window, and opening the door
to the room. It may become necessary to run the unit on low, since the space may be small
enough that it does not require the continuous use of the unit.
Cannot turn on the unit
When removing the collector plates for periodic cleaning, please note that it must be returned
to the unit in exactly the same position for a flush fit. Reversing the position will result in an
incomplete closure and the unit will not function properly.
Unit is making a zapping or hissing noise
This is simply a sign that the dust collection plate and the ionizer needlepoints need to be
wiped off. The zapping sound is just a result of a significant amount of dust build-up on the
collection plate, which results in a static charge between the dust on the collector, and one of
the ion-producing electrodes.
