GENERAL SAFETY RULES
(For All Tools)
WARNING! Read and understand all instructions. Failure
to follow all instructions listed below, may result in electric
shock, fire and/or serious personal injury.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
WORK AREA
1. Keep your work area cleanand well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite
accidents.
2. Donot operate power tools in explosiveatmospheres, such as inthe presence
of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may
ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to loose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
4. Double Insulatedtools are equipped witha polarizedplug(oneblade iswider
than the other.) This plug will
fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully
in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change
the plug in any way. Double insulation
E3 eliminates the need for the three
wire grounded power cord and grounded power supply system.
5. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
grounded.
6. Don't expose power tools torain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool
will increase the risk of electric shock.
7. Do notabuse the cord. Never use the cordtocarry the tools or pull the plug
from an outlet. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of
electric shock.
8. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked
"W-A" or "W." These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk
of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
9. Stay alert, watch what you are doingand usecommonsensewhenoperating
a power tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol, or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power tools
may result in serious personal injury.
IO. Dressproperly. Do notwear looseclothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep
your hair, clothing, andglovesaway from moving parts. Looseclothes, jewelry
or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

11. Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is off before plugging in. Carrying
tools
with your finger onthe switch or plugging intools that have the switch
on invites accidents.
12. Remove adjusting keys or switches before turning the tool on. A wrench or
a key that is left attached to a rotating part
of the tool may result in personal
injury.
13. Donotoverreach.Keepproperfooting and balanceat alltimes. Properfooting
and balance enables better control
of the tool in unexpected situations.
14. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid
safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate
conditions.
TOOL USE AND CARE
15. Use clamps or other practical way to secure and support the workpiece to
a stable platform. Holdingthe work by hand or against your body is unstable
and may lead to
loss of control.
16. Do notforce tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool
will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
17. Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off. Any tool that cannot
be controlled
with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
18. Disconnect the plug fromthe power source before making any adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
19. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools
are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
20. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
maintained tools, with sharp cuttingedges are less likelyto bind and are easier
to control.
21. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and
any other condition that may affect the tools operation.
If damaged, have
the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly main-
tained tools.
22. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your
model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool, may become hazardous
when used on another tool.
SERVICE
23. Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service
or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk
of
injury.
24. When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instruc-
tions in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts
or failure tofollow Maintenance Instructions maycreate a risk of electric shock
or injury.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR GRINDER
1. Always use properguard with grinding wheel. A guard protects operator from
broken wheel fragments.
2. Accessories must be rated for at least the speed recommended on the tool
warning label. Wheels and other accessories running over rated speed can fly
apart and cause injury.
3. Holdtool by insulated gripping surfaces when performinganoperation where
the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact
with a
"live" wire
will make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the
operator.
4. Never use hubbed grinding wheels on this tool (for 9523NBH only).

Installingthe wheel guard
Mount the wheel guard with the tab on the wheel guard band aligned with the notch on
the bearing box. Then rotate the wheel guard
180" clockwise (for 9523NBH) or counter-
clockwise (for9524NB and 9525NB).Besure to tighten the screws securely.

Installingside grip (auxiliaryhandle)
Screw the side grip on the tool securely.
The side grip can be installed on either side
of the tool, whichever isconvenient.

CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switchedoff and unplugged before installing or removing
the wheel.
Mount the inner flange onto the spindle. Fit the wheel on over the inner flange and screw
the lock nut ontothe spindle.

To tighten the lock nut, pressthe shaft lock

firmly so that the spindle cannot revolve,
then use the lock nut wrench and securely
tighten clockwise.

Only actuate the shaft lock when the spindle is not moving

CAUTlON :
Before plugging in the tool, always check to see that the switch actuates properly and
returns tothe
"OFF" position when the rear of the switch lever is depressed
To switch on, depress the rear of the
switch lever and push it forward. Then
depress the front of the switch lever to
lock it.

Operation
Hold the tool firmly. Turn the tool on and
then apply the wheel or disc to the work-
piece.
In general, keep the edge of the wheel or
disc
at an angle of about 15" - 30" to the
workpiece surface.
During the break-in period with
a new
wheel, do not work the grinder in the
B
direction or it will cut into the workpiece.
Once the edge of the wheel has been
rounded off by use, the wheel may be
worked in both A and Bdirection.

WARN I NG :
*It should never be necessary to force the tool. The weight of the tool applied adequate
pressure. Forcingand excessive pressure could causedangerouswhen wheel breakage.
Continued use of
a worn-out wheel may result in wheel explosion and serious personal
injury. Depressed center wheel should not be used after it has been worn down
to
75 mm (3") in diameter for Model 9523NBH or 90 mm (3-1/2") for Models 9524NB and
9525NB in diameter. Useof the wheel after this point is unsafe and it should be removed
from service and rendered unusableby intentional destruction.

MAINTENANCE
CAUTION:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore attempting to perform
inspectionor maintenance.
Replacing carbon brushes
Remove and check the carbon brushes
regularly. Replacewhen they wear down to
the limit mark. Keep the carbon brushes
clean and free to slip in the holders. Both
carbon brushes should be replaced
at the
same time. Use only identical carbon
brushes.

Use a screwdriver to remove the brush
holder caps. Take out the worn carbon
brushes, insert the new ones and secure
the brush holder caps.
