2. Introduction
The Non-latching Fiber Optic A/B Switch is a full-duplex optical switch. It can be
used to connect one workstation to either of two different networks or other
remote devices. A front panel rotary style knob allows the user to select which of
two duplex ports (A or B) is connected to the duplex port C on the switch. The
switch operates using a unique all-optical micro-mirror movement. When you turn
the rotary knob on the front of the switch to select a network, electrical control
signals cause the internal micro-mirror movement to rotate, which redirects the
optical beams from one network port to the other network port. This optical
switching technique eliminates the need to convert optical signals to electrical
signals, and is therefore transparent to data rates and protocols.
This non-latching switch is perfectly suited for use as a fall-back switch when a
pre-determined connection is desired in the event of a power failure. When
power fails or is removed, port A automatically connects to port C. When power
is restored, the switch automatically connectsthe ports selected by the front
panel rotary knob. And since the data signals are switched optically, data
continues to pass thru the connected ports regardless of whether or not the
switch has power.

3. Installation
Place the switch in a location relatively free from vibration and mechanical
disturbances. Connect theshared fiber optic equipment Port C. Connect the
fiber optic equipment that you want toswitchto the A & B Ports. The Secure
Fiber Optic Switch supports separate transmit and receive paths, so you must be
consistent when connecting the fiber pairs to the switch. The fiber optic
connectors are marked “IN” and “OUT” on the switch for this purpose.
Alternatively, you can leave Port A unconnected and use it as an ON/OFF switch
if your application only requires that the data path either be enabled, or disabled.
Connect your2 devices or network connections to the B & C Port. With power on
or the front switch set to B your fiber connection is on. During a power failure or
switching to Port A will turn the fiber connection to the OFF state..
4. Operation
There are 3 main modes of operation for the the Secure Fiber Optic Switch.
Typical A/B switching, Automatic Fallback switching and Switching a connection
ON/OFF. Operation is easy. Simply turn the knob on the switch front panel to
select the desired connection path thru the switch. Turning the knob to “A” will
route the Duplex fiber signals from the C Port to the Duplex fiber signals on the A
Port. Selecting “B” routes the Duplex fiber signals from the C Port to the Duplex
fiber signals on the B Port. If power fails, the switch will automatically connect
port C to port A regardless of the position of the front panel selector knob. When
power is restored the switch Automatically connects the ports selected by the
front panel rotary knob.
5. Troubleshooting
A flashlight or other suitable light source can be used to help verify that the
switch is operating properly. With power removed, shine a light into the port C
connectors. You should be able to see light exiting the port A connectors. Apply
power to the switch and select “B”, then check to see that light is exiting the port
B connectors. If light is not passing thru the selected connections, carefully
inspect the inside of the connectors on the switch for dirt or other debris. If you
determine that your switch is malfunctioning, do not attempt to alter or repair the
unit. It contains no user-serviceable parts. Contact Market Central, Inc. at (412)
494-2800. Before you do, make a record of the history of the problem. Your
supplier will be able to provide more efficient and accurate assistance if you have
a complete description, including:
• the nature and duration of the problem.
• when the problem occurs.
• the components involved in the problem.
• any particular applications that, when used, appears to create the problem or
make it worse.

in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, may cause interference to radio communication. It has been
tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A computing device in accordance with the specifications in
Subpart B of Part 15 of FCC rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protection against such interference when
the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to
cause interference, in which case the user at his own expense will be required to take whatever measures may be
necessary to correct the interference.
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s
authority to operate the equipment.
This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class A limits for radio noise emission from digital apparatus set out in the
Radio Interference Regulation of Industry Canada.
Le présent appareil numérique n’émet pas de bruits radioélectriques dépassant les limites applicables aux appareils
